| Cannabis linked to Biblical healing Many of the miracles concerned healing Jesus Christ and his apostles may have used a cannabis-based anointing oil to help cure people with crippling diseases, it has been claimed. Researchers in the United States say the oil used in the early days of the Christian church contained a cannabis extract called kaneh-bosem. They suggest the extract, which is absorbed into the body when placed on the skin, could have helped cure people with a variety of physical and mental problems. The medical use of cannabis during that time is supported by archaeological records Chris Bennet The author of the article, published in the US drugs magazine High Times, says his findings are based on a study of scriptural texts. Wide use The article does not question the validity of the miracles reported in the Bible but rather examines whether the early Christian Church may have made use of substances with an active medical effect. It does not rule out the role played by blind faith in Christ. Chris Bennett said cannabis was widely used at the time to heal the sick. "The medical use of cannabis during that time is supported by archaeological records." He said the ancient anointing oil contained high levels of cannabis extract. "The holy anointing oil, as described in the original Hebrew version of the recipe in Exodus, contained over six pounds of keneh-bosum - a substance identified by respected etymology, linguists anthropologists, botanists and other researchers as cannabis extracted into about six quarts of olive oil along with a variety of other fragrant herbs. "The ancient annointed ones were literally drenched in this potent mixture." Miracles Mr Bennett suggested the drug may have played a role in some healing miracles carried out by Jesus and his disciples. He wrote: "In the ancient world, diseases such as epilepsy were attributed to demonic possession. "To cure somebody of such an illness, even with the aid of certain herbs was considered exorcism or miraculous healing. Jesus often becomes the final hope for the pharmacologically impaired JesusJournal.com "Interestingly, cannabis has been shown to be effective in the treatment of not only epilepsy but many of the other ailments that Jesus and the disciples healed people of such as skin diseases, eye problems and menstrual problems." Mr Bennett said the findings suggested that it was unchristian to persecute people who used cannabis. "If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient Christian anointing oil, as history indicates, and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ." However, Christian groups in the United States have rejected Mr Bennett's claims. They have insisted that the arguments made in the article are lame. In a response to the article published on JesusJournal.com, critics said: "As many of us know firsthand, Jesus often becomes the final hope for the pharmacologically impaired." John Cunyus, the author of a book on Christian healing, said: "Well, the Bible does say that St. Stephen was stoned... but perhaps not in that sense!" |

| Originally posted by DaveSaenz I shouldn't have stated it as fact, but there is strong evidence of it's usage in biblical times. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2633187.stm Here is a fact though: Cannabis has much greater potential (known) therapeutic properties in ailing patients than either tobacco or alcohol; both legal drugs. It makes no sense at all that cancer, AIDS, and other patients that could benefit from this kind of therapy should be denied this promising meathod of treatment to fit some kind of closed-minded, moralistic ideology. Oddly enough these people who oppose medicinal marijuana use of any kind often call themselves "Christians." |

okay, it sounds like there are some irrepairable epistemic differences suffered by this thread.
it's obvious drug use is not good for everyone, whether its because they have higher goals in life or their minds are incapable of expansive growth.. who knows?
they problem we're dealing with is that people are trying to force their personal feelings on the issue without regard of the fact that we all react differently to different stimuli. Some people smoke and burn out, while others smoke and produce pulitzer prize material. We supposidly live in a free society, so why can't we be free to make our own choices? even if they are mistakes?
dammit.

I really can't see the Gore family under suspicion of drug use. i mean, look at who was his 2nd in command, Leiberman. These three (al an tipper) gave us extensive info on offending material in films, video game ratings, and Columbine Ripple of minors being allowed to see R Rated movies. And a lot of those people died specifically from drugs, should they considered martyrs?
i've heard that the two most powerful people in the world are Bill Gates and the CEO of Novell and actually trade places many times in their ranks of power.
From what i've heard, Bill Gates was arrested once (his mugshot is somewhere around the net) for joyriding. They got caught and arrested. During the regular search, his friend had some drugs in his jacket, so they took them all in.
Can anyone confirm about the CEO of Novell and Cisco? These are the companies i hope to be getting into.
didn't hippies, like the Beatles, do a lot of drugs, along with the attitudes of rebellion? Where are they now? Jeopardy?
k
lets clarify things a little here. I live in ontario and have been following things closely. First of all all that has happened if that the ontario court has found that charging ppl with small amounts of marijuana possession is unconstitutional and violate their rights. So police still confescate the drug and that's about it. now this is for small possesion. however the federal goverment has done no such thing. the bill is still being worked on. And this bill is to decriminalise marijuana. meaning you get caught with weed and you get a ticket. its like a driving ticket sort of, which means it doesn't go on your permenant record and your not considered a criminal like before. this law is still in the works. However even after this law will be passed, its still illigal to have large amounts of marijuana and to sell it. penalties for this may actually get stronger.
i think it should not just be decriminalised but also legalised. i used to smoke but don't bother or get around to it much anymore, which disprove you hole canada will be a bunch of pot-head theory. the stuff isn't very addictive or anything. Legalise because it is unconstitutional to tell ppl they can't do something that doesn't harm anyone else around them. If you wanna smoke then i say take my lighter.
