whats this all based on anyway? if its the public opinion then youre never gonna get a true result cos they all in different sub-genres of trance, you jus canny compare them

more than half the DJs on that list don't spin trance. Sub-genres of trance isn't the problem, comparing Trance/house/tech/hardcore/vocal/cheese/blah/blah/blah is a problem. as someone mentioned earlier, if it were skill based, all we would see is Turntablists and D&B DJs...

everything left places 101-250 will be released on nov 14th.

looking over the list again...really i know all of them its just that i've never heard of DJ Sneak? what the hell is that??? how does someone like that get votes over markus schulz...who has a weekly radio show...

Not everyone likes trance, or Prog, so not everyone knows who some trance DJ with a radio show in fla is, mmmmkay?

um Johan Gielen deserves to be there?....maybe at spot 80 something but not 26...

BT?>...the man doesnt even DJ...he produces....

Posted by torontotrance on Nov-01-2003 20:03:

DJ Sneak = Carlos Sosa, tho even his mother calls him by his nickname SNEAK.

Chicago House DJ and a very good one infact.

Posted by umes23 on Nov-02-2003 00:43:

stop complaining about markus schulz. radio shows are not the basis of who the best djs in the world are. the ones that can take their musical taste and skills to places all over the world, leaving an impression on their audiences and rocking a party/club, are the ones that deserve this kind of recognition. if he is really that great, he will rise by making such impressions around the world.

just because this is your favorite guy to listen to online or on 93.1 or something doesnt really have anything to do with it.

and the other thing i must say: dumonde can kiss my ass. i have never cared about anything to do w/ dumonde and will be surprised as hell if i ever do.

in my mind, this would be a better top 5, but this is a poll of the masses
pvd
sasha
tiesto
digweed
sander k

dude, dj sneak is a very good dj and producer!!! He's part of the trio of producers called the mongoloids with armand van helden/roger sanchez... now adding daft punk, basement jaxx and junior sanchez. He's a reference in the american house music scene.

now Markus Schulz?

Posted by sym on Nov-02-2003 01:38:

I think the one thing that you have to remember about these results is that many of the people who participated voted the way they did by judging on the career of a dj and not particularly on what they did in the year 2003.

Another thing that we have to think of is did people vote based on technical dj ability or also on their production skill.

That and people participated who really don't kno what the fuck they are talking about, "OMG TIESTO ROXXORXX DUDES, HAVE YOU HEARD LETHAL INDUSTRY? OR SPARKLES? THATS HIS NEW SHIT!!11"

IMO Tiesto based on his showing in 2003 doesn't deserve top 10, let alone #1. I'm glad to see Deep Dish in top 10 they deserve it. Fleming should be in 11-20 range. Oakenfold should be lower, Sasha and Diggers should be higher.

Oh well, "Life goes on"

agreed. he should be in the top 25 imo.

G&D shouldn't have been introduced so high, i guess beign good producers = top djs ... maybe Nu Nrg will be on the list soon... err maybe not

no real probs with tiesto beign number 1.. just happy pvd didnt get it... i guess im bitter since the only time i saw him he blew

and ppl referrign to gielen as a cheesball.. check out soem of his latest tracklists.. even though he still hastn thrown out his "TWISTED" vinyl .. he has been decent. and his position is well deserved.

BT should be replaced by Markus Schulz (who i predict will be the biggest "new" entry in next years rankings)

cheers,

wow, i'm sorry, nothing personal, but that's a very sad display of ignorance.

dj sneak is a legend who plays grimey chicago house. mad old school with a lot of funk and flavor, trance isn't everything you know? he's a dj of way more impact or importance in the global electronic dance music than markus schultz by thousands of light years. i was glad to see him there because sneak is unequivocally too underground for this kind of list, but i bet the reason he got there was his last single's popular success (can't remember the name) which i remember hearing on dutch radio and seeing the video on mtv europe even.

fuck all the talk about skill. as stassi said, the djs with the most technical skill are nowhere on this list. as much talent as J00F or Scott Bond or whatever might have on the turntables, there's no way in this earth that you could compare their "skill" to that of QBert, Mixmaster Mike or even dnb djs like Andy C and Marky. go watch the documentary "Scratch" and then talk about skill.

and yeah, i'd rather see Tiesto more than any of these highly-skilled djs. why? because I PERSONALLY like his kind of music better. that is all....

Posted by torontotrance on Nov-02-2003 03:24:

Mixmaster mike owns

Public? What public? The narrow people of London within DJmags grasp?

The people have spoken? What people.

Who cares?

Smiley DJ

Oakenfold is so over rated,he should b at the bottom half of the list

Smiley DJ

in reality...the poll is about whos popular and not who is the best dj,if that was the case, the list would b totally different

You guys should know better than to pay attention to the DJ Mag Top 100

Worm Popper Top 100 Djs who raised some eyebrows!

1. Tiesto
I think PVD deserved the top spot. But that's just my opinion on this one.

3. Armin Van Buuren
I do not think that Armin deserved the number 3 spot. Despite his radio show, he does not have more fans worldwide than Sasha and Digweed. It's not possible. Plus I heard that Armin got caught out cheating in the BPM poll in the US last year.

11. James Zabiela
Up 28 positions to the Top 20? Hmm. Not sure about this one.

19. Tall Paul
Up 57 positions. LOL! I think someone had a little "help" voting in this years poll.

41. Sven Vath
Up 41 positions. I just don't see his popularity has increased this much in the past year.

42. Gabriel & Dresden
They might have had a good year production wise, but they don't deserve a debut this high. There is no way they are more popular than other excellent DJs who placed below them.

45. Umek
Up 30 positions. Who is Umek?

52. Hybrid
Up 39 positions. Like Sven, I don't see their popularity has increased this much in the past year.

55. Lady Dana
And last but not least, the biggest joke in the DJ 100 for 2003 - Lady Dana!! LOL!!

Also, I would have liked to see the following two DJs higher:

27. John OO Flemming
35. Christopher Lawrence

Of course these are just my opinons

man i dont know where you have been living for the last year...Umek did Gatex....remeber that awesome track that djs like tiesto and armin killed? He also did benozal wich is a really good track. PVD number one? LMAO...How can u say this??? plus if you ask yourself why Sven Vath has risen in the top 100 you probably never heard him...He is really good and easily better than the ten first ( except maybe for sasha )

I know one reason that tiesto won is that his label in America (nettwerk) kept sending spam emails to people with a link to the DJ mag poll saying to vote for tiesto. I also got spam from his label in the UK (nebula/virgin). I think that's hardly fair to the other DJs who didn't have such a large PR machine, but then again this poll is crap anyways hehe. I can't recall getting spam telling me to vote for any other dj...

Posted by Peppe909 on Nov-02-2003 17:44:

who the fek is James Zabiela????????

i got spam from so many djs asking for the vote. judge jules, lee burridge and a bunch more. tiesto won because he's the most popular in the UK, that's the only reason. you guys always fail to mention that over 90% of the votes come from the UK for obvious reasons. in the US much more people know who PvD, Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed are.

LOL! I bought Sven and Ralf Hildenbeutal's first album 'The Art of Dance' which they recorded under 'Barbarella' in 92. I have all Sven's original vinyl from Eye Q. I have heard him play many times, in fact he played for me at an event once.

If you read my post carefully, you will see that I said "I don't think his popularity has increased this much over the past year". I did not question his skills.

Kai Tracid is not on the list at all.. sad.
