Hey TOTAs!

I got one more question. If I was coming to the club via a car from south on Spadina, do I turn left or right on Adelaide? And also, anyone has any info on parking?

Posted by mute79 on Dec-10-2003 13:15:

^^ from spadina, heading northbound, you turn right onto Adelaide (Adelaide is one way eastbound)... actually as soon as you turn right onto Adelaide from spadina, on your right you will have a lot of parking places to choose from, and the club is right accross the street...

See ya there!

Can you make a left on Adelaide from Spadina when going South?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can after rush hour.

Posted by Ortemy on Dec-11-2003 17:50:

^^ Positive about that. Remember waiting for the cars that were turning left while going north.

Uh oh ... I think I forgot to ask one very important question: is there any food allowed to be brought in? If not, do they sell any inside?

Posted by mute79 on Dec-12-2003 15:54:

food?

umm, you can't bring anything into a club, food or drink... that pretty much stands true for virtually every club...

Thumbs down WORST CLUBBING EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GOD ... Yesterday night was the probably the worst experience someone could get at a nightclub. Started off bad, as I really wanted to see Robbie Rivera, but my parents didn't give me the car, so me and my friend, Brian, who is new to dance music and never heard house music before (thats right!), took the GO Bus to Toronto. It was a very confusing experience, as I never took a GO Bus before and I kinda got lost in downtown Toronto with my friend for some time ... We walked to the Sound Emporium club. There were homeless people asking us for money throughout the night (on several occassions), the streets were dirty, unpleasant ...
Anyhow, first of all, the Union Go Station Bus Terminal in Toronto didn't have any lockers AS OTHERWISE WAS STATED ON THEIR WEBSITE!, so I had to drag all my stuff to the club.

The worst stuff happened when we got to the club. I thought we might only have the problem with the coat check since there was stuff in my bag that was not appropriate for a club (apples, juice, cookies, ) YET STILL ALL OF THAT WAS ALLOWED THROUGH! WTF WITH ALL THAT FUSS ABOUT NO FOOD TO BE BROUGHT IN?????? Next, the bouncers / people inside had no clue about the place whatsoever, and led me and my friend to the lower section of the club where they played d 'n b instead of when I asked them that we were to see Robbie Rivera, and we were led THROUGH THE CHAINED-OFF BORDER between two areas downstairs. We paid for the coat check, changed to clubbing clothes, and asked "How do we get to the upstairs lounge?" And thats when all the hell started. By the way, we arrived to the club at around 11:45 PM. Not even the bouncer (who later kicked us out) , nor the coat check people in that section, nor ANYONE was able to help us with the query. I tried to cross back through the chained-off are by hopping over, but was refused so by another security guard. So I took a chance, grabbed our coatchecks and with clubbing clothes, went out to go in again. The searching people and some of the guards recognized us and gave us a LIGHTER search, as they just searched us and not the bag. We went in easy (still didnt pay for the ticket!!! we couldn't got in for FREE!!!), paid for our tickets and told that the coat check is downstairs and is for both lounges. So hearing that we went downstairs, and as we crossed the chained area, that security guard (Ukraninian-looking) came out of nowhere, brought us back to the chained-off area (from BOTH SIDES!!!) and started yelling the hell on us, like, WTF we are doing in this restricted area, cant you two see the chain, etc. I apologized, and said that we won't do that again, and another guard let us through the same passage the previous time and this was our first time to a club. So he went back, and we instictly followed him, as the entire area was closed and were were gonna have to leave somehow. We didn't even hop the rope this time, but walked around the post! He turns around, and starts going even more bizerk, like, I told you not to cross the rope, and you did (what could we say, he didnt let us say anything in return this time). He tells us to go outside with him, and there, in front of quite a few other people in line, and with it being snowing, us wearing light clother and in need of a change, told us that if we wanted to get in again, we had to pay again! WHAT A #$##@$$$##$$$$$ ...He tricked us, what the hell is his problem???? I wasn't even being provocative and what we did was not bad at all!!! Since we had nowhere to go, and the next GO Bus was to come at least after 6 AM, we waited, and then since we had no choice but to go inside and THAT BOUNCER WAS WAITING FOR US, HE KNEW WE WERE COMING BACK, and HE MADE SURE WE PAID AGAIN! THAT TIME THE SEARCHERS DIDNT EVEN CHECK US AT ALL!! WE COULD'VE BROUGHT IN SOMETHING!!! We re-entered 3 times that night! I think we're pretty much well-known now there ... So we paid the double price, FINALLY GOT SHOWN THE RIGHT COAT CHECK PLACE, which was a small darkened room with one door at the end of that downstairs hall ... We paid the coat check, and after this we FINALLY got to go in to the upstairs lounge. THIS was about 1 HOUR after we initially entered. So we went to the floor, and .... THERE WAS NO MORE THAN A HUNDRED PEOPLE present, and though I did find the TAs, and they all were so nice and friendly, but the time it was 3:30, everyone except me and my friend HAD LEFT, so they stopped DJ'ing! All fellow TAs left, and we two we left alone to make our xconclusions .... So me and my friend paid 80 + bucks EACH for just over 2 and a half hours of terrible nightclubbing experience! Now I won;t have enough money to go see Marco V tonight, and that party is surely to kick some arse ... After the club was closed past 3:30, we went outside and walked through the downtown, and a few more beggers asked us for money, eve when we stopped at Tim Hortons! ...

Also, the first DJ really played some not-so good tracks, as it was just plain taram baram ... Robbie Rivera surely was great, he played some great tunes in his set, some classics and several late house hits, including the awesome JUNIOR JACK - DA HYPE, and his single GIRLFRIEND, among his couple more or so other singles and tracks from M.O.S. ... I feel bad for Robbie cause as he sure had an awesome set, but the number of people at the Lounge was decreasing by the minute, and it looked like as if people didn't like it something .... My oh my ........ What a nightmare! And think how my friend, who I brought to his first dance music event, and who is not a dance music fan, but wanted to check it out - HOW WOULD HE FEEL????????

As a lesson, I STRONGLY recommend everyone NEVER to go to Sound Emporium Lounges EVER AGAIN, as their light/lazer system is absolete, the treatment is pure shit, and I guess I should've went to see Holden at Glow (wherether the heck that was?!) Unless me and my friend can be reimbursed by the club management WHO WASN'T EVEN PRESENT AT THE CLUB THAT NIGHT!, I will strongly spread the word of this terrible treatment to as far as I can, and believe me, I know a lot of people / groups .... Look at their website, and look at their club, and I SHOULD'VE LISTENED to whoever said questionable things about the lounge ...

Hey Phil- I PM'd u with the management's contact info for your complaints. I hope you can verbalize it to him better than your post, LOL. Sucks that you had to go thru that bullshit.

As for the party...

It had all the elements of a great party, minus the crowd. Where the hell was everyone?!?!? My heart goes out to Dan (who = Trancegeek aka DJ Mute- the opening DJ, Phil) who threw this party with his own money. Maybe it was due to exams, or people saving $ for x-mas gifts- I dunno. While Holden was much busier in comparison at System Soundbar around the corner, even they weren't packed like u would've expected.

I thought Dan played a GREAT set! The THC drummer & Bobby Dreadful were AMAZING! It was my first time seeing those guys. Willie Morales then played for a whopping 30 mins, and got the tunes pumped up a bit more b4 Robbie's set. By the time Rivera came on, a good bulk of the crowd had already left, whether it was due to people leaving from lack of a turnout, or too many people being too f'ed up to stick around (there was lots of that going around). Don't get me wrong- I'm glad everyone was having a good time, whatever they were on, but most of those people who left were Dan's friends. I realize they stayed for his set, but what about the rest of the party???

The DJ booth was set up in the raised section of the club, so it only faced the middle portion of the club (looking across the room, not down the length). To make matters worse, what few people were left in the club, were all off dancing to the left of the DJ, out of his view. I kept going over to that area, & asking people to come dance in the centre, and fill the floor up a bit. Some would comply, but they would drift off again. It was like a highschool dance- no one wanted to dance in the middle- everyone just stood around the edges. Shit people- have some respect for the DJ and the promoters, and get out there and dance!

Robbie played for 2 hrs and then called it quits. An audience of 5 gave him a hefty round of applause at the end. All in all, his set was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! And even tho the place was practically empty, it was the TA's who were dancing til the end. I totally loved everything he played. His new remix of "Straight Ahead" (can't remember whose track it is) is a KILLER!!

I wanna thank Willie Morales for the Robbie Rivera cd he gave me, Robbie Rivera for the amazing set (despite the circumstances), and Dan for the Ministry of Sound cd, posters & for bringing such good talent together into 1 room.

It's a damn shame more people didn't show up to this party. I'm SO GLAD I went to this. Shout outs to Trance Ludak & his wife, Trancegeek, Brunette, Alex, Crazy Serb, Magnetonium, Skeletor, mobius, lil_kandi_angel, sooper and hansolo (& anyone else I'm missing).

Afterwards, Skeletor realized his car had been towed, so I got us both into System & we stayed there til 6:30. Caught the last 10 mins of Holden, and then chilled on a couch listening to the wicked beats of Dekoze.

Sorry it didn't work out. Looks like Sound Emporium is cursed or smthn - this is not the first time that promoters throw a good party in there, but few people show up. I think it has more to do with the club's terrible reputation rather than anything else.

I agree. I've never disliked the club, I just don't get why people hate it so much.

i guess its not the hate, more likely how their experience was. i dont dislike the clubs also, but if you come to party and have to do all that shit, when you have come to enjoy it really makes you feel like shit.

Corinne and I dropped by last night to check out and support DJ Mute
He played a wicked set, some driving progressive house and then some dirty tribal beats towards the later part of his set along with tight mixing throughout the set. The place was setup quite nicely as Nathalie pointed out in her post, and the free MOS Annual CD's were a nice bonus.

Unfortunately we didn't get to stay for Robbie Rivera because Corinne wasn't feeling too well and wanted to go home. Orignally we had planned to stay for a bit of Rivera's set then head over to System to see James Holden, but plans changed and we didn't get to see Holden either.

Anyways, it was great seeing Dan spin and seeing a few TA's as well.

OK, first of all, I was not really in the mood when I was composing this message, and secondly, even as of now I haven't slept since yesterday morning, the friday morning. I had to go to work when I got back home to Hamilton, after the party, and now I am dead tired and I notice the MANY grammar and other mistakes I committed. I twisted my leg badly as well ... the entire experience was like a one HUGE nightmare, with the few exceptions ...

I apologize for making incorrect judgement on the first DJ, DJ Mute I believe - he was actually great, it's just by the time I got upstairs ... well, yeah ... sorry. I guess I didn't catch on to the tribal ... Sorry to anyone who I may have offended, but you know, don't tell me you think I made this entire story up.
