-- Do You Think Gabriel & Dresden Are Any Good Or Completely Over-hyped?
Pages (6): « 1 2 3 [4] 5 6 »

When producers are putting out a massive amount of productions and remixes, it's almost certain that the quality of some tracks would not be perfect. I think Gabriel and Dresden deserve their success.

One thing I would hope to see is that G&D need to come up with a more complex bassline! The same old bassline gets boring!

Posted by mikefasssy on Nov-23-2003 08:59:

enh, they were good, but to be honest, all their remixes sound the same to me now, so easy to trainspot.

just seems like they tried to get too big too fast, I dunno, i prefer releases/remixes every now and then, to keep me interested, but not obsessed, seems like every day they have pumped out a new tune.

Ha Ha. It makes perfect sense. It took people some time to catch on to G&D.

Posted by Sgus on Nov-23-2003 14:40:

in my opinion they are a bit overrated....good productions but they get borred (the same style....)

Apparently not. You see, the thread is about discussing if Gabriel & Dresden
is overrated or not. This is not a "mention a G&D song quick, win promos!!"-thread.

I think G&D has become boring. The latest remix I heard was of some
Dave Gahan tune and it really blew. Now before everyone goes apeshit
over me, another guy, not liking G&D have this clear for you:
I dont give a rats ass about how popular they are, how many tunes they
have made or how much money they make. If their music doesnt fit my
style it just doesnt fit.

Altho I have almost worn out my Lament-vinyl. But that and is the only
really solid tune I feel they have produced. This lets-remix-all-the-popstars
just makes me sigh. Fine, they can do whatever they want and they can
put out material that is "top notch" but I dont care.

I dont want them to remix Madonna, Britney, DJ Aligator or Pavarotti.
I just dont. Altho that is NOT the reason why I dont feel that
they can produce music that inspires me. The reason is that they are
doing a van Dyk in my eyes, same bassline, same fat beat and the structure
is seldom different.

Its like always having sex with your gf at 19:00 Sunday nights for 15
minutes.
Sure, it feels nice in the beginning but after a month or two you
begin to suspect that there is more in life in a sexual standpoint
then 15 minutes of glory with the lamp off.

Important details to be noted..

i started a thread about this about 1.5 months ago

80% pro gabriel and dresden and 20% anti......people bashed me blah blah blah

today on this thread i see
60% of people who do think they are overhyped and 40% cockriders

its all about this sound and if a sound isnt your cup of tea then thats why Ta is for.
Your expression and feelings about a dj.
Dave dresden even said critisize all you want and he doesnt give a damn. Good idea. He will continue to produce some good tunes and some shit tunes. Its part of being a dj/producer.
same as being a baseball player....youll throw some strikes once in a while.

but im finally seeing some people jumping off this bandwagon......ffs

Gabriel & Dresden still kicks arse! I'd like to hear their remix of some '80 tunes more than pop tunes, even though Evanescene - Hello Mix was mint!

Posted by neoh on Nov-23-2003 19:07:

Smiley DJ hah

gabriel & dresden have a sound that I like, It's been a long time since I have heard it, they are good to dance to, they put on a good show, I do admit - their essential mixes are pretty boring, but do enjoy them, and I think they deserve the credit.

At least you have the right attitude about it.

I think dave looks at it as if people hate him, they must listen to his music...it creates threads like these.

Usually I keep my mouth shut. Today I feel like commenting.

If you tell me you like all works by a specific artist I'll tell you that you either are lying or the artist hasn't produced enough. That goes for ALL art and ALL types of music. Not related to trance, but I like artists like the Beatles and even Sinatra (yes, i am NY wop), but there are plenty of songs that I think are sh!t. Doesnt mean I dont like the artist.

Will I ever play a Brittany Spears song while driving in my car? Hell no. When I heard there would be a G&D remix of one of her songs did I want to hear it? yes. and it was actually pretty good, for a brittany song. I heard it played out at a club and people loved it. Good for them.

People get pissed off because producers remix pop songs? I understand and appreciate that but what would you do? The biggest pop star in the world and you would turn that down? Come on. BS. You would all do the same. Arent they in this thing to make money? Yeah, they love the music and all but damn people, get real here. They actually took a Brittany song, made it sound pretty good and made some money on it. Dont forget the exposure.

I used to listen to a lot of alternative rock back in the 80s (Cure, Depeche Mode, etc, etc). Back then U2 was part of the alternative scene. After Joshua Tree I was like WTF??? Sell-outs. I was also 15. Look at how big they are now. Should they have walked away from the mainstream exposure just to appeal to a few idiots who resented them. Back then I may have said yes.

Now I realized what a Dumas I was.

How many producers have put out the quality work that G&D has? Why not throw as much creativity at the public and let the public sort out what they like and dont like?

I'd rather be able to form the opinion then to never hear something at all.

enough ranting from me. rip me all you want. just call it creative expression and i am cool with it.

Posted by Poncho on Nov-24-2003 18:20:

Smile Tongue

i think they got good tracks and bad ones jus tlike any other artist, but over hyped? No. There jsut isn't that much hype behind them for them to be over hyped

Posted by webbie on Nov-24-2003 18:32:

Ofcourse one wouldnt turn down the offer to remix a big artist but
the thing is that *I* (we?) are not beeing offered that.
We just want the artist to stay true to the music and fans and keep
producing because they care for music, not for the money.

If they get rich of it, good for them. I dont give a shit.
I would do the same thing but i still feel that one has a "right"
to express his opinions, you dont have to prove a good example or
do the "right thing" to have permission to ask your artist to do the same.

Posted by DeleriuM2K on Nov-24-2003 18:42:

am I the only one that really, really liked the britney track? I loved it... amazing beat, so sexy

I wouldve put it in my latest set (11-16-03, in my signature), but it didnt really suit the overall style. needless to say, I did include 4 G&D tracks

what would I do without these guys?
