Paul is not gay by far. His wife is that fine asian chick you always see in the projection screen behind him when he's spinning!

See, that is the misconception, they aren't "classics", as in they don't offer some "new" or "innovative" edge to trance or even to edm as a whole (not a paradigm). AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY FAIL (UTTERLY) TO MAKE A STATEMENT (will not, have not, withstood the "test of time") WHATSOEVER. These two criteria are, in my mind, the ways to make your song into a classic.

Those trance tracks, are for the most part, disposable music. I listen to them, and I think "hey" minus negligible changes in the way people produce anthem trance these songs could fit right in with all the absolute shite drivel that is pushed out today. I sincerely doubt my post is going to change any minds on the issue because the majority of users here have some dogmatic belief that "twinkly synths" and over-dramaticized breakdown's and buildups are supposed to evoke some sort of emotion. I will admit that I once fell under the guise of this, but recently i have been thoroughly and (i hope) permanently disillusioned. It's no different than pop music really, find a format that works, rinse, lather, repeat..

flame away... please

His stateside/presents sets are consistantly good, and his productions are gettin better. His next artist album will turn everyone's heads and then everyone will like him again. Ignorant logic the majority has really.

talk like yoda, you do.

but seriously, i agree very much with what you said.

You gotta understand....I'm a bitter man.

Anyhow, I guess he just really pissed me off when I saw him here...and he would do his little jesus poses and turn down the music to get applauses....excuse me, I want to dance and hear the music...not fucking clap and cheer for him when he can clearly hear it to make him feel like a king. I don't need the volume to be turned down to clap and cheer.

It just really urks me when DJs do that. Dave Seaman did it 7 times in 80 minutes when he played here a month ago. I may be considered sad for counting how many times he did it, but when a DJ does it that much it's hard to not start counting. While I loved his set I am not sure if I'll see him ever again. The only thing that might bring me back is that I think he realized that the crowd wasn't really into the cheering/clapping when he turned the music down so he suddenly stopped and didn't do it during the last 2 hours of his set.

Again...I'm just bitter....please excuse me.

I wish Oakey would just go back to his old ways...when he was pretty much the greatest. As reports of his ego tactics started popping up in places is around the time when his music selection started slipping.

Oakey was one of a very few DJs who got me back heavily into Trance after I started slipping out of it in the late 90s....starting hearing all types of his stuff and just completely fell back in love with trance and EDM in general. I will always respect and love him for that. But until he noticeably loses the big head, my overall support for him will be lacking. I'll applaud him when I hear great sets from him, though, as it's impossible to deny a great set is a great set.

The next DJ I think might be losing my support...Paul van Dyk. Will be so hard, but I've heard some nasty things about his persona....yikes.

That's just your personal opinion though. There is no objective criteria for deciding 'classic' records. Generally what makes a classic is enough people calling it that. The majority of trance lovers do consider tracks from Tranceport to be classics of some sort or other, fact.

Oakey is a great DJ his new stuff is good.. iloved his album Great Wall... the whole purpose of his shitty album "Bunkka" was a experiment to try and get America into the whole trance scene again.. so he threw out a comercial song that america would like which they did like since it was played all over MTV and radio stations across america..

Posted by Jeskot7 on Dec-23-2003 15:30:

Reminds me of his Club NV appearance, I was in the front row and I made a heart with my hands to tell him I loved him. He did it back to me so I don't believe that he is as insensitive as people say he is.

Check out this article, it looks to me like he is gay. They use the word "mate" that doesn't exactly connotate friendship.

OOps I messed up here's one more short at posting the article that suggest Oakenfold is in fact a homosexual, as Seinfeld says "not that there's anything wrong with that"
Paul Oakenfold & mate "Trevor Fung"

just in case your basis for the suggested homosexuality is the usage of the word "mate" i would like to inform you that in some parts of the world it means somethign much closer to "friend" then "lover"... I didn't read the entire article but... I think you are misguided...

If everyone has justification though then everything popular is a classic, you be the judge.

In the November issue of BPM they interviewed Oakey and that was one of the first questions they asked him if he was a homosexual and he answered that he is not that there is a lot of rumors that he is gay but he clearly stated that he is not in anyway gay.. he then stated that he has preformed at a few gay joints around the world

Well, your link didn't work hun. But anyway, like i mentioned, he is defenitely not gay regardless of whether u think he looks gay, or talks gay, or uses the word "mate" in a funny way. He is from fucking London for crying out loud! lol Cheers Mate

I've never seen him turning down the music so the audience can cheer for him! How strange! But, ya, he does do the jesus poses. I think he does that because he REALLY gets into the music and just forgets about everything. The poses don't bother me. It gives him more character in my opinion. And he always does this funny dance... it cracks me up! hehehe

Exactly. I posted a different pic of them over on trance.nu a month or so back but can't find it (and the forum search is down so I can't find it now either). But yeah... he is (or was) married to Angie Costa... and she's pretty.

hehehe...well if they're still married, it's been about 2-3 yrs now. but yes i still remember the first time i saw the man 4yrs ago - climbing up out in front of Freedom (club in Tempe, AZ) flanked on both sides with two 5'10" models in 10-gallon hats towering over him, one under each arm. she must be a very understanding woman
