One artist can do many different genres, so no doubt Ferry Corsten = Tech House. yea he's doing tech-house right now...

Got any examples? (recent sets w/ tech-house, etc.)

When most people around here think of trance they think of Alice Deejay, Darude, and DJ Sammy. I usually don't bother replying when people start in w/ that shit. When I do, the only thing I ever say is, "There's sooo much more to trance than that."

Posted by Z1D on Jan-05-2004 04:28:

Sandstorm
When that got radio play everyone around here flipped and was like "omfg thats such good trance/techno"
god I wanted to shoot them all.

Posted by jonSun on Jan-05-2004 05:28:

What I hate the most is when High School kids that dont know shit about electronica muzik call "like a virgin dancemix" TECHNO.

Posted by MrMiyagi on Jan-05-2004 09:27:

what i always find funny is when hiphoppers or RnB club-hoppers start talking shiet about techno in general... then they get pissed when i point out that so much of todays so-called hiphop and RnB are actually forms of techno...

Posted by L-H on Jan-05-2004 10:17:

When infact techno wouldnt be anything near what it is today if it wasnt for hiphop.
Hiphop isnt a form of techno, I would be pissed off to if you said that to me.

oh, I also absolute despise Clubland compilations, I've seen a few of the 5 minute adverts on MTV Dance, and my god, I want to kill that bloody compilation! :S all I see are some 17 year old tossers with trainers and caps on back to front going "this compilation is fecking wicked mate, oi oi!!" when its full of the biggest pile of tosh known to man.... :/....

WORD !!!!!!

All that emap bollocks.

They canceled the one good show on my local station

Posted by abnorm on Jan-05-2004 10:26:

My coworker use to call trance "Euro-Tech rave crap". Also, some people are convinced that "Rave" is a genre and others argue endlessly that DnB and Jungle are two different things.

I don't know if many ppl outisde of Australia get to hear Nick Skitz and his Skitz mixes (count yourself blessed if you're confused) because he is probably one of the most annoying 'electronic' artists/DJs. (IMO)

Any others on here agree?

Posted by dj_sketchy2003 on Jan-05-2004 16:06:

nick skitz is horrid, to think i used to like him back in like 1999

he pics the 20 worst tracks u could think of and makes 'megamixes' of them using the most ANNOYING samples of whistles, and people yelling 'put your hands up' etc etc its for all the 'hard ****s' to cruise with thier lowered Honda civics.

here is an mp3 sample for you people who are lucky enough to have not heard his style.

and to make it even worse every darn CD has the same samples as the last... argh its horrid.

Posted by bRy on Jan-05-2004 16:15:

That clip and your post was brilliant. It's reminded me of the extremely bad nature that defines Nick Skitz's music and all that is wrong with most aspects of the 'hard' pop-electronic.

To think that he was using Insomnia by Faithless also. Why!!!!??

But one thing we must give him credit for is his originality. The man can take songs like excalibur and turn them into a hoovers and horns remix with a '2002 remix' slapped on them (lol j/k).....the man is a flawed genius...he's flawed in that his music is one great flaw, yet genius by his ability to make so much money from sad cases who actually think they're 'different' from the mainstream...mwahahaha

hahahaha

i must admit he has talent... pity he lacks music taste.. actually im glad he has crappy music taste, imagine his style megamixes of good tunes argh itd be evil... oh his megamixes etc take him yonks using mostly a computer and hardly turntables.. and he puts on an act (judging by pics ive seen) that its all a live mix. apprently live he is crappy.

Posted by bRy on Jan-05-2004 16:26:

He's featured on JJJ's Mix-Up I think so maybe he plays different styles when actually playing live and his CDs are merely for money making purposes. I refuse to listen to him though whatever he's playing because chances are it's of the hard-house variety which I really can't comprehend or get my teeth around.

Mix-Up though should stop wasting their time with people such as Skitz and high-profile Australian DJs that have caught the 'hard' bug and rather focus on others such as this one DJ I heard one time playing from outta Canberra...he dropped Angry Skies in his set which totally blew me away due to his timing and track selection. Cant' remember his name though, although there's a bit of talent in Canberra I hear.

Posted by dj_sketchy2003 on Jan-05-2004 16:33:

yea canberra has talent, my boss is in with the MoS Crew and some other peeps, he is mates with Mark Dynamix etc and promotes his tours. pity he is gay and mostly plays at gay clubs, he (my boss) is pretty popular in canberra for spinning wickid Jungle beats. he also met dj tiesto the bastard and gets free tickets to all of his sets in australia (tiesto came to canb Chrissy eve i thinks) wish i was there

as for other good dj's there is a few.. we lack the night clubs tho.. only a few decent ones

Linkin Park does not, nor will it ever have anything to with black metal.

it amazes me when people take the time to quote someone without actually reading their post first...

anyway, back to topic... it actually doesn't bother me that much when people mislabel music genres... i simply correct them when they're wrong, points and laughs at them when they're really, really wrong, and naturally, insult them, their family and their entire way of life when they get really annoying... no harm done...

but when people are seriously insisting that "aqua - roses are red" is techno (or trance for that matter) even though you've already told them its not, and of course that any monkey with a computer can make trance music, it all sounds the same and that the only real music is whatever they're listening to, you really can't just tell them they're wrong and let it go with that... they need to be stopped before they spread the ignorance further... so always keep a stun gun, a pair of hand cuffs, a car battery, and some wires handy... torture and patience is the answer... torture and patience...

Posted by Simcut on Jan-05-2004 19:05:

Talking

oh yeah, that reminds me, gotta hate those bastards that think trance is "druggy" music, and only crackheads listen to it, or that a "DJ" is just someone that plays records... pah.

Allmost any song played on the radio here in mississauga, ontario. if it is a so called trance song they play a 2 minute radio edit that usually takes away from the whole effect of the tune (how can you take an 8 minute epic and turn it into 2 minutes?!?!?!?!?)

Posted by Anno Domino on Jan-05-2004 21:28:

DJ motherfucking sammy and jan wayne

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-05-2004 22:06:

yea, you're right. i spent a week up in toronto, and their so-

called "dance" radio station, 103.5 was horrible. all they played

was cheesy, over simplified radio edits.
