Well, I dled all of the 18 songs and much of my impressions are be negative

Most of the songs below-par with my taste. I was hoping the tunes would be in the uplifting/epic genre (you know, the gouryella effect). There are a few that I like but rated not as high as the uploaders'.

I'll have the review later on tonight. Only if I could up some of my songs!

we should be able to rate each track individually, just like on here, and have an average of all the votes for that track displayed

Yeah there's 21 members already so I think I may limit to one each next week. Like someone mentioned earlier any more than that will be too many to manage to listen to and give a fair review. Plus limiting to one per person will improve the quality of the tracks uploaded.

It's only day 2 so I'm sure more questions will arise...hopefully we can come to a common solution.

anyways, did my song w3rk? i downloaded it on my other computer and it loaded perfectly and i danced too.

well, this songs are generally known by most of us, and since TA"S community's favorite genre is that, is harder to know a tune that its rarely known, next time I'll have one that I love, and is one of my all time fave, hehehehe..
anyways, yeah , if all 21 uploaders decide to upload and be active, then yes, we may have to limit to 25 .. huumm l.. I know this would suck on such a big forum , but what else can we do .... any other ideas?

can u lock the database, or lock people out on certain days?
i was just thinking that maybe u should only have it open 1 day each week, we all upload our fav song of teh week. we vote over the next few days, tally it up, proclaim the song of the week, and then start all overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes I can lock/unlock database whenever I want. I think that Slain's idea is a good one. Give people a day or two to upload and then cutoff the uploading and allow people to download and review the songs the rest of the week. Do you guys think one day is enough or should we allow uploading for 2 days.

Oh and your track is working now Slain...was trying to play it using windows media player, switched to winamp and it works fine. That's a hot track too by the way.

Quickbase doesn't have a function to rate the files, so unless there's someone that can set something like that up...it's not an option.

Um first off it's Ground_0 not -zero. I don't really mind. But to get around that does anyone have somewherre we can do a site for this or maybe even have it hosted here??? I do a little bit of webpage design and could help out.

Why dont we ask swamper or one of the moderators and see what happens?!?! so we have our own little section for this .

One song a week sounds lilke a good limit to me too. With 20+ uploaders that is more than plenty to pick a best song. Besides, if we all posted 3 relatively unknown songs a week many of us would have nothing left to upload after a couple of months!

I just realized that what we wanted to do is basically what TA's singles' section is like. You have the song, it gets rated individually, and comments can be made. The project at hand only adds track of the week but allows for more songs to be downloaded unlike TA's infrequent updates.

I wonder if TA would incorporate Quickbase into their singles section to increase songs output.

If I were to link to songs directly on there then I would kill the service within a few days once they realized how much of their bandwidth I was eating up. Having a bunch of sites do this is what led to MyPlay becoming more strict with their lockers and MySpace.com to file for bankruptcy in May.

'Infrequent' updates will stay - it takes time to find quality and it's only me who takes care of everything on this site... I just spent over 20 hours reprogramming the web server in C and adding new functionality to prevent lamers using download accelerators from sucking up all the bandwidth from everyone - how many mp3 webmasters out there would ever bother with such a thing? Not many.

Keep this going for a couple of weeks within the forum, i'm not creating another section just yet. If it works and is organized and 1 or 2 of you want to keep it running then I can give you 2 access to add individual people for access to another forum within the site where they can discuss/get account details for this thing and all that.

Having it open to everyone will just kill it because greedy people always fuck up everything.

I totally agree w/ Swamper...there is no way I want Quickbase to just be open to anyone who wants to download. That would take up way too much bandwith and eventually get the site shut down. Look at this thread for example 90 replies, but 831 views. That means there are a ton of leechers who just want to take, but not contribute. I think that the decision to force people to register to view the link will cut down on the leeching and make this something that is just ours.

I'm excited that Swamper would even consider giving us our own sub-section to run on our own. Hopefully we can make this work and turn into something positive.

Also as this becomes more popular I'm sure more people will want to register...should there be a limit on the number of registered users or should I just keep allowing people to register. Maybe I can monitor which users haven't uploaded a tune within the previous 2 weeks and remove them from the list. What do you all think???

Sounds logical. You should lock down the number of uploaders (25max, 1up per person) so only a selected few can be able to upload. Put me down as one of those people

Hm...there's still only 18 songs uploaded. I'll try to get my picks on right now to see if it actually works this time.

I've tried to upload three more times, all with different files but I keep getting the 404 error.

I agree with swamper, if it works, he'll give US the section to work this out, huum so, like he said, leave this to only the ones participating, and give the link to only those that want to help, cause if anyone wants to only LEECH and not upload, then his forced to give a review, wich is the fare thing, so Im wondering, those that want to upload can have the link tthrough PM, so the downloads dont go out of control. And if anyone wants to help reviewing, he can also have the link PM'ed, so this can stay organized, and not mess up with the D/Loads.

Now, you say there's 18 songs, but I allready posted 3, do you want other fews to register and upload, or can I upload 1 more ?

ive always waited for a project like this would start
for example the rmf.com dotd
its a good section , but its open for evey single member
maybe 500 views in a post and maybe 10-30 replys where ppl who actually apriciates that u post a download says thnx
of course those few replys want you to still post, but when you see that maybe 500 ppl download ur stuff and only 30 spends 1 min on saying thnx you get a bad feeling

Ant, how many ppl can upload to the database at the same time ?
1 at a time, 2 at a time ?
i got the feeling that some of us are trying to upload at the same time causing a conflict and the error 404 ?

i will try again in a few hours . . .

I think you may be right. Last night as I uploaded a track someone was doing this at the same time. I finished first, mine showed up theirs didn't.

Also we should shut this thread down, and stop the uploads. Download the songs and vote on which ones are the best. I say we each say are top 3 and then someone can count the votes for each song. The 3 that get the most votes wins for song of the week.
