Ian Van Dahl - Try (Michael Woods Remix)

It'll still never top Castles in the Sky though

Sash! - Equador

How can you fault this master at work in any way. Pure gold. '96 was when i really got into this kind of stuff.

And on the same CD was

Chicane - Offshore .... but the vocal version

Which of course I loved till I knew better.

Milk Inc. - In My Eyes
Novaspace - To France (Nova Mix)
RMB - Deep Down Below
Sarina Paris - Look At Us (Beam & Yanou Club Mix)[/B]

To name but a few...

Ok, the first four have good vocalists, but Sarina Paris, hell I just cant stand that singing style. Sometimes I really wonder what the hell they were thinking in the studio when they recorded those vocals. Mmm, chipmunk vocals are the new rage. haha

Even Scooter's Alpha Male, pseudo rockstar vocal style is less annoying, although it is wierd to hear in dance music. Just my 2 cents. Ha!

Its good to see everyone being honest bout their weakness for cheese once in a while.
My personal Favs would have to be
Toca's Miracle
Sandstorm
Feel The Beat especially the J16 mix
and Better Off Alone.

Lets just get this straight.
Rank 1 IS NOT CHEESE

I also feel old cheese was better than the new cheese is.
Gimme Darude & Alice Deejay over Flip & Fill & Dj Sammy any day.

Posted by KrissO on Jan-13-2004 09:40:

Yeah, I think we all have a weekness for cheese. I'm sure there are a lot of other "Supreme tranceaddicts" and all those with higher levels with "armin" "tiesto" etc in their thingy that could have paricipated here. But they don't have the balls, do they ?

I also liked Darude - Sandstorm, but got fed up of it very fast.
I guess it does have a cheesy sound, but it's also defined cheese because of it's commercialism. A combination I mean...

Rank 1 - Airwave was very commercial, but hell no, not these at all!

Posted by Billabong on Jan-13-2004 13:53:

ATRC but then i went back on myself and hated it again.

And your "the cheese was BETTER back then" comment is sorely misguided. Don't let nostalgia get the best of you. Besides, just like Airwave, Out of the Blue and Gouryella were unique, innovative tracks.

It all depends on how youd go about defining exactly what cheese is. Youd say that cheese is anything that is produced with an eye of solely making money and attaining a chart position and recognition, regardless of musical value. Im saying cheese is anything that makes a chart grade and is a widely recognised. Really, what Im saying is actually just commercial and to be honest your definition is the better one for cheese, but all the same, take Airwave, all the beer boys in their Ben Shermans and Rockports at the local ritzy all know how it goes. I wish they didnt but they do. It gets spun beside the likes of scooter, and they all love it.

RE: "the cheese was BETTER back then"
I tend to disagree, how often do we see a good, non vocal trance tune gain a decent chart position these days? I dont pay attention to the top 40, so Im prepared to be proven completely and utterly wrong, but off the top of my head the last decent non vocal trancer that made the charts was the 2000 remake of Strange World. Maybe the cheese wasnt better back then, but the trance tunes that gained commercial recognition tended to be. Possibly I am letting nostalgia get the best of me, but its hard not to with tunes of the like of Carte Blanche, Gouryella etc.

There are a few Cheesy tracks I enjoy...but see there is a big difference between TRANCE and DANCE and these vocal tracks we are talking about now are DANCE...I think this is where people get the wrong outside view of trance...because they associate the cheesy lyriced DANCE songs w/ what TRANCE is...yes there are trance elements such as emotional synths and percussion but there are other differences but people just don't care to examine these facts, so they assume....ANYWAY.

DANCE music is what got me into Electronica and eventually introduced me to trance, prog, house ect....here are my FAVORITE cheese-ball lyric Dance tracks:

Lasgo - Something
DJ Encore - I See Right Through To You
Kate Ryan - Scream For More
Sonique - It Feels So Good
Larissa - Jay & Jane lol, j/k sexy provocative song tho
Amber - One More Night (Club Mix)
Lazard - 4 O'Clock (In The Morning)
Fragma - Toca's Miracle
Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone
Amber - Sexual (Li da Di)
Ultra 5 $ J. Cee - Potion (Lange Remix)

among others...

I really like remixes of these cheesy-types of dance songs by the likes of:

Above & Beyond
Wippenberg
Green Court
Lange
Peter Luts

ect...
