Huh?? Sorry I'm a bit confused of what you're trying to say here... not trying to put down your post or anything, just trying to understand. Are you saying he's huge because the average joe doesn't notice his trainwrecks?

What exactly has he done ??

Eccept than making sure that everybody and their mama knows what trance is all about. Hence making it mainstream by making sure that the market is overflooded by un-talented producers who make money out of radio stations who wanna sound cool and play some "trance" tune.

And By making it mainstream he made sure that almost everytime there's something big happening in any town there are some druged out kiddies who are at that particular event just because "Tiesto's so cool ... i'm sooo in bceause i took 3 pills yesterday"

come on

Sasha has done a lot
Digweed has done a lot
Pete tong has done a lot
Bt has done a lot
Pvd has done a lot
Oakie has done a lot

Tiesto ... made money because trance was being popular.

Btw i'm not bashing tiesto ( tho i really don't understand why he is so big seen him 2 times and eccept the fact that wherever he plays it's packed/over-packed i don't see the point ) i'm just saying that he hasn't done anything for the scene.

Anyways

in 2 years from now nobody will talk about tiesto, armin'll be #1 and the same crap will happen for him.

Never forget one thing

Have fun at you cool underground dj's that play your ecclectic, sexy, deep, dark, dirty, disco, soulful, groovy prog house...im sure that party would be more happening than any tiesto party

Posted by KrinKer on Jan-13-2004 08:04:

My elitism ?

When have i said that tiesto doesn't bring the party ??

Nver

I'm just saying that he never did nothing for the "scene"

Btw Cyrus

Yeah ok i'll think about you next time i will have a great time seeing big dj's like Derrick carter, lawler, Paul Van Dyke, Sasha, digweed to name a few

come on man grow up we can't all like the same thing ( and i never said i hate tiesto i just don't get why he's so big there's tons of better dj's than him )

Right....

All those remixes, tracks that were pounded by DJ's from around the world, his concert, DJ mag, dance awards, crazy events.... the list goes on...

He has done much for the scene....he is the scene right now

But if it makes you happy to deny this.. than ignorance is bliss.

Posted by KrinKer on Jan-13-2004 08:21:

Other than being hugely popular what has he done ?

Has he invented anything ??
Has he tried pushing the limits of his music ?

For exemple

Sasha and digweed did something for the scene because they got tired of the same old crappy cheesy trance and they "invented" progressive as we know it now ( u might not like it but they did something for the "scene" )

Tiesto "invented" his own style of music....he has his own distinct sound.

Live with it.... hes is popular for a reason, becuase he knows what he's doing...

Again...lets just label everything any trance DJ plays as "cheeze"

Hehe ... I know all the reasons why people hate him, and I understand that and agree with some of the criticism, and I have to say:

I WANNA SEE HIM LIVE, DAMMIT!

cause even though his mixing can stink at times, and he lacks talent in places and can be an a-hole at times, but many of his sets find their place in my top 30 livesets of all-time, and his albums are great too!

I couldn't have said it better myself! Peace! Golden! WOW! I am scoffing a bit at BT though, but its nothing much, believe me, LOL!

Posted by KrinKer on Jan-13-2004 08:37:

ok

First

if we're gonna dicuss something

Don't get all mad for the first time in a LOONg time i'm not bitchie and bashy on you 'cause i wanna understand, but with your answers you're just prooving my point.

Yeah ok he's popular, but so his dj sammy ( come on we both know he sucks )

As for him inventing anything, his sound is produced by other people, yeah ok he has produced some good chuunes but it's not groundbreaking ( for an example Hybrid is groundbreaking, Sasha's first album was groundbreking, timo maas's remix of doomsnight was groundbreaking, James holden is groundbreaking i'll stop now you see my point ) I think that tiesto is just following the "trance" formula, isn't he ?

Btw i don't label every trance tune as cheesy i still love trance from time to time ( yeah i go out in trance nights every so often ( wich doesn't seems to be your case you seem to only go out on trance nights anyway that's not my point ) I use to like trance but i got bored i thought it was always the same thing over and over and over and over and over again ( please don't get mad it's my opinion you can't do anything about it )

agreed, i.e.:

sensation
global clubbing
magik 6
magik 7
eau 1
eau 2
space 08.18.02
docks 2003
radio oslo 2003

to name a few.

i do agree he's gotten lazy as of late with his tracklisting, and even even said in an interview last summer that he needs to sharpen things up and improve his tech skills to 'stay on top'.

let's hope he rocks us hard when he gets here. he did last june, i'm confident he'll do what it takes. many djs do tend to shine in TO when we think they're in need of a star performance.

I like his Live @ Samfundet 09-15-2000 set, live at Zoom, Israel, Club Eau, Dutch Dimension, Dance Department among many others ...

my fav Tiesto album - In My Memory. In Search Of Sunrise are also great great series, followed by Magik series ... argh too much too mention ...

Every single DJ that comes to Toronto has drugged out kiddies jumping because they took 3 pills...it has nothing to do with tiesto...

Some people in this forum say that whoever listens to Tiesto has no clue about music or trance and we listen to it because it is cheap and cheezy. I grew up with Jean Micheal Jarre, Pink Floyd, Enigma, Deep Forest, Metallica, etc. I know what the music is and I can always say that Tiesto is talented. Tiesto did a lot for trance scene, he created his genre, which is funky, not boring and very energetic. Tiesto brought the emotions into the trance music.

Tiesto is the only dj for that can bring the story or the theme through electronic music without saying a word. There is always a message or mood. When he was spinning here in October 2002 he was tired, and everyone could see or feel that. In July 2003 he was full of energy and again it delivered energy into the crowd. Music is all about emotions and feelings.

None others DJs music makes goosebumps on my skin. Digweed's, BT's or Sasha's music put me to sleep for some reason. No emotions, too dark. Sometimes I am in the mood to listen to something like that, but most of the time I just can't. Well, evyone has their own taste.

Well you are saying that Tiesto makes money. DJing is a job and it is normal for him to make money. He is working much harder than all of us, trust me. And he only does it cause he loves to see the crowd jumping in front of him (at least that what he says). I am more than sure that other dj are making money too, well if they can't, too bad for them. Create or play music that people would love to hear and make money. This world is free.

This discussions are stopless, they will never end. Everyone has their own point and opinion. The only thing that bothers me is party poopers in these forums. Only about to get hyped up before this or that event and there will be somebody who will say: I hate this DJ, he sucks the party will be fucked up. Why do that???? If you are the party pooper stay @ home quitely, if not come out and go crazy.

You should add that this is only your opinion. Its flawed to say that he is the only DJ that can do that in the world. To me he is not even close to bringing a theme in his sets.

And Cyrus King, you forget that the DVD was shot in 2001, its 2004 now. Tiesto was much better in those days. You keep on bringing up that eventho I may not like Tiesto I still dance to the music. I was at that party to see Moby and David Bowie do a live preformance. Seeing Tiesto, Digweed, and Carl Cox was just a bonus! The fact that they video taped me for the DVD was even a bigger bonus, but when I actually saw Another Day At the Office, my opinion of Tiesto changed for the worst. You can tell that he is all about the fame, the money and the awards. Way to egocentric for my liking.

Now you see that's an answer

I'm not a pooper

I'm out usually once a week

I'm totally in love with electronic music since 1995

I have seen tiesto on a couple of ocasion and both times he wasn't really living up to his reputation

Anyway thanks for the answer

Come on, we saw you smiling at the camera in glee as Tijs was spinning.

And whats wrong with striving for success? He's already proven his talent in this field, so why not take advantage of his growing popularity and make the cash he deserves?

P.S that video was shot about a year and a half ago... in the summer of 2002.
