The new name displays what we are about and it is not to different from our old name so hopefully people will realise what the night is.

Josh would'nt the best way to go about this to make a Brand NAME like an easy name, e.g. Sublime with the slogan "A night of trance" etc... Its like Coke, calling it a "Can of COla" and using that as the real name. If u come up with a name but keep EVERYTHING you have, like flyer design etc.. just ad a name then people won't get confused. A night of trance may confuse people, it wont stick in their head when they think of somewhere to go, if they had a name and then the slogan it might be a better long term solution.

Just my idea

i wholly agree with muli here
you ask people where they are goin tonight and you get the names like sublime, cargo, globe, pontoon, gas, halcyon even. even though some of them are names of the club, they are still pretty short and stick in your mind

Im just not a fan of Darey. Take Nocturnal delight, its just rubbish trance, churned out, all cliche, nothing original whatsoever. It sounds the same as most other trance producers really.

You shine on is another example, its a pretty boring track, with boring vocals. "You shine on like everything around you, you shine on my spirit will surround you". Like most trance vocals, abolutley meaningless and only there for the high notes of the female voice, once again, getting rather cliche and boring. (and i know the tracks old)

I do own a copy of gamemaster (original) i liked that (probably willing to sell it) but yer.

Darey doesnt stand out to me like a forefront producer, I know he used to be, but now, very mediocore.

I like producers which are sounding different, like Mesh for example.

fair enough?

yeah single words are the best... catchy for sure!!! if its a phrase or sentence then its to hard to say and remember.....

Posted by djway on Feb-21-2004 05:50:

Take the Darey chat elsewhere and let's keep this on-topic.

Putting all that marketing studies into good use i see.

I like how you have renamed the night Josh, to "A night of Trance" as opposed to "A night at the icebox". This definitely places a greater emphasis on the music, which is what people are looking for.

Posted by gumble on Feb-21-2004 06:22:

well maybe it is relevant.

darey displaying a current level of trance production / nights, the masses dont approve, tired of this sound, and turn to breaks and funky house as an alternative????

Posted by waXology on Feb-21-2004 06:30:

yeah stop hi-jacking my thead :P

Posted by Chookie on Feb-21-2004 06:47:

I agree with wade, it's hard work flyering etc for an event/night, and you can put in the hard yards and still get no result, it's very frustrating!!

I hope those ATLANTIS ticket sales are going well

True true Muli,

The reason that the change is so slight is because i wanted the change of names to be seemless. A Night at Icebox -> A Night of Trance.

But yes you are perfectly right about the brand name being more of a description than a name. At this early stage we want the public to know what the night is all about because the night and DJ's are still relatively new. This is why the posters have real pictures on them. Not only this the posters have alot of descriptive words on them. Such as DJ descriptions. i.e. Animate (Hard, Euphoric and Anthem Trance)

I think there is something in that for all of us

Yup totally understand josh

Keep everything like you have it, don't change a thing! Just make one adjustment, ad a name and then use the slogan "A night of trance" then build the name & slogan together, with slight more emphasis on the brand name.

ideas off the top of my head are.

Josh's Kitchen "A night of trance"
Chemistry "A night of trance"
Above "a night of trance"

yea they suck, but im in a hurry

What does that show to the public? That there's :-

a) people there
b) people dance
c) there's a laser
d) there's lighting
e) the icebox is a small venue

?

I'm intrested in this...

The pictures show that the night and trance music goes off!!!

Which is an image the wider public can relate to. Which is very important when they can't recognise the brand name of the night or the majority of DJ's at it.

To Muli,

That is a darn good idea.

this thread rox!

Wade, we have to keep the Darey discussion going in here, it wouldnt work as a seperate thread, not many would be interested in it as a stand alone topic.

Ok fair enough reply, i agree though BUT you gotta realise that Matt Dareys love has always been with vocals and such... check out his old remixes, it was remixes similar to disco-era material...

I for one know it's a bit cheesy sometimes BUT come on, check out his old songs, IMO they wipe out any artist.

some examples

Matt Darey - From Russia With Love, ok this song is just beautiful in every single sense, it uses the vocals from Li Kwan - Point Zero and incoprates such a beautiful melody behind it.

Lost Tribe series, don't tell me you think this series is bad, don't think about Gamemasters when i say Lost Tribe tho, think about the other 3 Lost Tribe productions; Angel, My Soul and Under The Red Sea.

Angel has a progressive feel with a Love Stimulation vibe... nothing shit about it.

My Soul, ok now this was pretty good but again when i said his love with the disco-era, it's present in this song... but this song is nice, uses the piano from Gamemaster and some nice synths.

Under The Red Sea, uses haunting vocals under a ambient breaks feel.

Check these songs^^^ and tell me Matt Darey isn't a nice producer.

BUT i do agree with you, his recent songs are just not up to par BUT can't that be said about all the other artists, everyones style is changing, with Tiesto to Darey... we might not like it i guess, but they deserve to do something different and experiment.

By the way, check out his unreleased material on his site Matt Darey Feat. Marcella Woods - Satellite, one of the most beautiful breaks songs i've heard since many people are turning into the prog and breaks bit... check this song and the breaks mix of Angel.

hahah this reminds me of that Darey @ Halcyon thread where it 8 topics in one thread...

Heavens Earth is the best of the lot, which didnt even rate a mention.... however, whilst i like Darey stuff, i also agree with Gumble

Well i agree with him too, i'm not that biased to like everything a artist does BUT then again i can say exactly what Gumble said about any other artist and it will be true.

Every old artist is changing, now comparing Mesh to being quality than Darey is just weird... remember that Dareys first stuff stomped on Mesh's stuff.. i bet you Mesh will soon change like any other artist.

meh... i guess taste does vary alot here.

Gotta agree, Heavens Earth is absolute stormer of a track. Which lies my point that Matt Darey's best was his remixes imo not his productions. Blockster - Grooveline ( darey mix) driving as.
