100 % agreed - about his general comments on tiesto, i wouldn't waste money on that garbage (the dvd), but i'll take his word that the dvd is ghey/pointless (as expected).

Posted by DjGrl2000 on Mar-02-2004 18:35:

Like I give two shits what another "critic" has to say about Tiesto

Posted by Cobalt on Mar-02-2004 19:20:

I find it amusing how people who support Tiesto don't seem to understand people can disagree. All they can say is "I don't care what that tool has to say," when they clearly do if they're posting in a thread about it.

I mean, I like Paul van Dyk, but that doesn't mean I'm going to call names everyone who disagrees, and say I don't give a crap what they think. All that would do is hurt my case and make me look like a mindless sheep, which it certainly does for Tiesto.

And let's not forget that rolleyes smilies instantly make a post more important and credible.

(Yeah, I'm really being a bitch lately. Maybe I need more sleep...)

Posted by MadMats on Mar-02-2004 20:01:

my comment to this ishkur dudes article is that he might have got some points in it, but i cant take him seriously when he actually thinks that the whole event lasted 3hrs and mixed 6 tracks and then stopped and that he thinkt tiesto plays euro trance and that he claims that tiesto is not a dj because he is a "rock star"..

he got one thing right though:

There is an MC. He is totally and completely unnecessary. He praises Tiesto shamelessly, high-fiving him and cheering on the crowd like an idiot. Halfway through the set he shouts, "This is DJ Tiesto!" Oh! Have we magically forgotten who that is in the middle of the ridiculously huge stage with twirling lightning rods surrounding it?

Posted by Scottaculous on Mar-02-2004 20:02:

Ishkur's review made me wonder when did the "dance" in electronic dance music disappear. Dancing has all but disappeared in many big name DJs events. In it's place is a sea of people standing, looking, listening in front of the DJ booth. What does that sound like? A rock concert. Maybe I have it all wrong but isn't a DJ suppose to help people party and not steal the show? Between overprice DJ fees and promoters packing a venue, people can't seem to find the room to dance and frankly it sucks.

"It reminded me of The Beatles performance in Shea Stadium in 1965, where it didn't matter what they played--the people loved it. John Lennon banged on the piano with his elbows like a retarded monkey, and the crowd screamed in approval. Tiesto also possesses this awesome power. He could take a dump on the tables and the people would think it's the greatest song ever."

lmao! I love this guys style. Although obviously a bit clueless about Electronica in general, I find myself agreeing with almost everything he has to say in this review; and love the way he puts his point of view across.

Posted by Devbert on Mar-02-2004 22:11:

Interesting article. From the sounds of it, it'd be a shitty DVD.

I've read his Electronic Music Guide too, and he definitely has bias against any kind of uplifting trance. He compares PvD - For an Angel to Ian van Dahl - Castles in the Sky. I mean, C'MON!

Anyways, I've been listening to Tiesto since In Search of Sunrise 1, when he was just another semi-popular Dutch DJ. Since he has gained momentum in the trance scene to become it's most visible proponent (Voted #1 In DJ Mag, etc.), there have been this explosion of LOVE/HATE threads on TA about Tiesto.

Whether or not DJ Tiesto has ascended to Rock Star status and anoyingly abuses this is up to debate.

But the fact is that Tiesto has produced dozens of songs and mixed hundreds of sets that are loved by thousands of people.

So if you don't like him, just turn it off. I hate these people who make it their goal to slander Tiesto, PvD, Oakenfold, and any other Huge DJ who is peaking. It's just pointless, because your only preaching to the choir (people who already don't like Tiesto).

Posted by mndeg on Mar-02-2004 22:21:

lame bashers, the concert was fine, i listened to a LOT of it live
did ishkur expect tiesto to play some minimal prog or something to 25000 people?

moron.

Well the only interesting point that this article raises is the idea that the whole dj'ing thing is being overrated, and I totally agree with that. What does DJ do? (S)he plays records, mixes them together, at times plays with eq's or with the effects of the cdj/mixer (pioneer). While watching this DVD I noted Tiesto saying that playing the record is the same as playing the guitar. I don't agree with that. It takes waaaay more effort to learn how to play guitar and excell in that, than just mixing records.

It really depends on the DJ and how he/she wants to do with their time between mixing. Some DJs do a Jesus pose. Some smile and wave at the crowd. While others keep their head low and always tweak the sound or so some effect tricks, DJ tricks, or sampling trick. The latter can be equally as difficult to excel in.

This is the dumbest article I've ever read.
Holy shit
What the fuck is this guy trying to say.
Tiesto is an Idol - plain and simple

Lay off. I was trying to be at least somewhat apologetic for my harsh tone, not arrogant.

Posted by Djs-storm on Mar-03-2004 00:19:

When I saw whose website this was I was not surprised at all by what was said

This part makes no sense:

quote:
He is at least fifty feet away from them, surrounded by gigantic, electric light rods that jettison out from the DJ booth in every direction like a massive power conduit, as if to say that the universe truly does revolve around him.

Maybe because they are recording for a dvd, and wanted to keep the crowd away from the booth, to avoid any chance of his vinyl skipping from someone bumping the tables.

This guy is far too opinionated and doesn't realize this dvd was made for Tiesto fans, not just anybody. Obviously from reading his review, he is someone who doesn't like Tiesto in the first place, which means he shouldn't review this dvd anyway...

Posted by punchline on Mar-03-2004 02:27:

I really doubt that they put the DJ booth that far away in order to keep people from bumping it. The lightning rods are overboard just like a lot of the DVD. I used to like Tiesto too, until his productions started dropping in quality. He's to the point now where he could release 30 minutes of a ferret running around on production equipment, and people would still say it was the most amazing track they ever heard. I'm guessing thats what pisses Ishkur off too.

And about him reviewing the DVD. He said at the begining that he didn't want to review it but the production company sent him a free promo of the DVD to review anyway. He does write for a few publications aside from his website.

I don't mean to offend you, but do u actually know what it takes to play the guitar the way say, Ritchy Blackmore or Morrison or Jimmy Hendrix did? I can list many amazing guitar players, it's not the point. What kind of musical tallent they had ?
Well, of course, it's stupid to compare a DJ and a guitar player, those are two completely different things. Where as it's hard to deny the popularity of the electronic music now days, a dj is not more of a good psychologist than just a musician. DJ has to know which track to play when so that the crowd enjoys it an dances its ass off. That's why I would never put a DJ who plays the record, and some tallented piano player who plays jazz on the same scale.

lol I love it how someone can call me a bitch when i'v never ever talked to them before. And it's all because I don't care what one certain person has to say. lol comedy!!

I think this all depends on the person. I personally, don't like every mix or song Tiesto has done, and I also much prefer his older stuff. Some people might love everything he does and worship him like a god, but if he does a shitty track or set, I'm not going to say it still was the coolest thing I'v ever heard. One example, I love Conjure Ones Tears From the Moon, but I hate Tiestos remix of it.
Like I said, I think it all depends on the fan.

Well you see, in the English language saying "I am" such and such refers to the person speaking, not to another subject.

Please read more carefully before taking your attitude to the keyboard. It was actually a very subtle apology for my bitterness.

LOL and I'm the one with the attitude. It's kinda funny that out of 7 pages of responses, you single out me and completely bitch at me because I have my own opinion, but yet, I'm the one with the attitude? Funny shit!!
At least you hit the nail right on the head when you called yourself a bitch
