Heh, funny metal should be mentioned again, as I was quoting Megadeth earlier in this thread.

Out of all the metal shows I've been to in NY, females would be relatively few and far between EXCEPT when you had a band with a frontman they went wild for. Then they would come out in droves. Type O Negative and Tool/APC are two acts that come to mind. Ah, well. . .(reminisces about beautiful, yet spooky metal chicks decked out in their finest leather and black attire). As people have pointed out in this thread, I think it comes down to the fact that guys and girls generally approach music (and its corresponding "scene") a lot differently.

SpecialEd: Not for nothing, but whenever I've had a discussion comapring any sort of music between the East and the West Coasts, you guys always seem to get bigger events with more women. What gives?!? Must be them wide open spaces - here in NY, everything is crammed together. BTW, your post about the NoCal/SoCal area in the other "state of the scene" thread was very informative. It's nice to hear that the massives are thriving there. The party scene here has taken a real downturn in the last few years, although it was pumping around 2000.

Ahh. . .metal, parties every weekend. Whatever happened to the bad old days?

Peace,
Slick

Meh... guys have it easy. Take your shirt off and girls fall all over you. And here us girls are tryin to dance like everybody else while at the same time keep our boobs in our shirts. Jizn' ne spravedlyiva.

whether or not your nipples show doesn't make the slightest bit of difference, cuz you know, i have my own nipples too

everything we want to see you can easily show off.

exposing a good body is alot easier and requires less creativity than concealing a bad one

Hey peeps, what's up. I've read and enjoyed these boards for a while, and I've decided to post now that I have something to say.

What's up with the sorry-ass state of trance here in our beloved NYC? I went to PVD's last set, and I have to say, I was quite disgusted. . .not because of the music, no sir, the source of my discomfort was THE LACK OF FEMALES ON THE DANCEFLOOR.

I mean seriously, fellas - are we NYC tranceheads running a giant gym class here? Almost the entire dancefloor of the Roxy was occupied by guys.

Let's face it - if we want trance to live and thrive in NYC (our dream since the 90s), we had better focus on getting more girls into these events, because while we may live for this music, it isn't 100% of the equation.

Just my two cents. . .and to pre-empt those who may try to hate on this thread, I say this:

A party can have the best setup and the best music, but without ample numbers of the opposite sex, it isn't really a party, is it?

For trance to thrive in NYC, it has to succeed during club nights - and success during club nights largely translates to women.

This is New York fuckin' City, the Capital of the World. . . we already have the best DJs coming in, and in my opinion, its up to the rest of us, as New Yorkers, to bring the party that will keep them here for years to come.

Peace,

Slick

new york,,,capital of the world 'my arse'....the best dj's are coming in from europe...london is the club capital of the world....millions of clubs and millions of dj's....there are more clubs in the east end of london than there is in the whole of new york....i love new york but your club scene has nearly disintegrated in the short time that i have been here.....sf shut down,,,arc closing.......we got clubs that have bin there since the beginning,,,and theyre still out there.....

Steve, I was referring to NYC as a whole - "Capital of the World" is one of NYC's nicknames (like The Big Apple). In regards to the club scene, if you read through the thread you would see that you and I are in agreement.

The NYC club scene has been getting hit with one KO after another - what started with Giuliani and Gaiten was followed up by 9/11 and the economic downturn that followed. The sum of all these events proved to be a near deathblow for the nightlife here (at least when compared to its former glory).

Where will it all go from here? I'm hoping 2004 can provide some answers.
