Agreed. It should be one way or the other. But I think the "amateur" should stay for the reasons I mentioned above.

I think people are looking at the word Amateur as a negative one, because it somehow suggests bad quality. This isn't the case though. Think of the best producers you know, when they made that first killer track they were amateurs too

Posted by AbsoluteFahren on Jul-26-2004 17:36:

I voted 'NO' because there is a mix of productions (amatuer, advanced, professional)in here, but 'Amateur' is inviting for new producers. Plus I don't judge anything that is amatuer as a bad thing. We are here to help each other, and it doesn't matter whether you are pro or amatuer or beginner. It's about the music, and the name of the forum is not gonna reflect or influence my opinions on the people, and most importantly, the music that they create in here.

Oh, and to get technical, someone can have a professional quality production, but not be professional. You have to get paid or signed for the track in order to be professional. My two cents.

I think "amateur" is great, it still gives more advanced users a change to give tips to producers with less experience. This way there's more discussion and value for producers area.

Is there a deadline for this discussion or is it ongoing indefinitely?

Posted by Xenocreator_PG_ on Jul-29-2004 04:06:

these are discussions that go forever ................& beyond blah.

Ive been playing musical instruments all my life & have thousands & thousands of years worth of experience. With all this musical knowledge stored in my cranium I only have one very important thing to add to this discussion: & that thing is persistance! I am persistantly dribbling crap. I am the musical wizard of crapology! Crap crap crap. & my point is crap. & then crap is all crap something crap. I think ive reached my pointless!

Posted by davidemonin on Aug-02-2004 09:25:

Yes, the word amateur should be removed.

This forum includes productions from all experience levels, not just an amateur level. In the end what makes a producer no longer an amateur, a signed release, and then they all of sudden become a pro! Music is a domaine where people always learn something new all the time. This forum is a great place for producers of all levels to give each other advice and learn from one another.

Trance.nu came with a good title of "artist promotion", but I also put my vote for "music producer promotion" or just simply "producer promotion".

true that. but i got another take ...

Anyone can make music. A musicial produces music
A Pro producer is someone who is in the career of producing & know his tool of the trade like the back of his hand. It takes a little bit of time to learn programs such as propellerhead Reason & Cubase. An amature may be someone just starting out with demos of these programs or generic versions, & hasn't quite become 'one' with the program yet. grasshopper.

Its a bit like porn. You got amatures that can make porn in their back yards & then you got the pros that do it in the studio. much of a muchness. grasshopper. When someone says 'amature' i think of a handheld footage of a virgin babe getting a rogering. Pro or not, its still good - the music that is. Unless they are a dead knock. then it is just boring. grasshopper.

Now that is some funny shit. So True. Amen.

Posted by Jay M on Aug-04-2004 13:25:

.. Some amateurs should have their hands on the pro stuff, and the other way around, IMO!

Oh, sorry, I was still talking about the porn. But it holds for music as well lol

Posted by SignalRunners B on Aug-05-2004 01:44:

Absolutely; it should be removed. Who's got the right to say who is an amatuer and who isn't?

Posted by soundrush on Aug-06-2004 17:08:

i might repeat the others. anyway... i think 'producers promotion' is the best choice. it includes the pro's and the amateurs.

Posted by .A.Y. on Aug-07-2004 09:35:

does this vote ever gonna end?

Amateur ???? grrr no way !!!

Posted by [mart] on Aug-20-2004 10:32:

The discussion continues.

I personally don't mind being labelled an 'amateur producer' - that way people expect my tracks to be really bad and can then be pleasantly surprised (in rare cases ). On a serious note, I think that the community element of the forum would disappear if this became a forum for 'pwoper' music producers. At the end of the day, we are amateurs, aren't we?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Aug-20-2004 13:27:

Amateur = not making profit
Pro = Making profit

Quality has nothing to do with it.

That's what I thought, I just said it in a spasticated way.

I agree... That would work best.

Posted by itsamemario on Sep-06-2004 15:39:

cor fijneman is considered (by some :P) as a pro producer, but ive gotta say his remix of Major League - Wonder wasnt worth releasing..
So keep the amateur... im gonna post here even if ive got releases

Posted by Subtle on Sep-08-2004 21:11:

yeah.. lets remove the "amateur" from the title....

maybe Armin van Buuren would be looking for some feedback..

Posted by capricorn15 on Sep-14-2004 07:40:

just music producers forum would be fine i think.

Posted by djlight on Sep-17-2004 11:47:

yes,

not all producers on here are amateurs. There are some very good and very professional producers on here.

Posted by eXrMusic on Sep-18-2004 19:13:

Yes, because I don't consider myself an amateur.
