there was a lot of big talk about how lotus and distrikt were going to come and take some of guv's clientele away. i belive distrikt is just a gino club that had that one techno club, and lotus went tits up after some disaterous nights and a very poor layout. so, i won't get too excited about a new club until i see it. the only real sucess story has been boa reduc as far as i'm concerned.
I went to the guv last nite, it sucked...
I won't go there in the nearest future.
I thought it's packed on special nites, no way.. it's ALWAYS packed...
bye bye GUV, welcome a new club!!
ummm what club were u in last night? because guv was good last night and had tons of room to dance.......your must acually be crazy
Where is your hometown? Petawawa?
Sure u can get your $2.50 shots in some crappy small town bar but i am comparing international cities and world class venues. To get what you get at Guvernment every week would set you back at least $200 or more per night anywhere else (after cover, drinks and parking)
Do you know how much money goes into the design, lighting and sound in that place not to mention the world class talent that comes through all the time?
If you call Guv last night packed you need to stay home....
Plenty of room last night to dance

| Originally posted by k0nk The discussion was drink prices on a city level, not on a club level. Pretty much city wide, my hometown has cheap drinks on thursdays and saturday, and yes they do bring in some talent (Although, not as much as Toronto, but thats to be expected). For example, DJ Dan will be there, for $15, and there is no chance highballs will be more than $5, and thats not on cheapnight. |
Even for being packed... ive been to clubs in other parts of the world that are so packed you can honestly not even move and constantly get squished. How do people dance? literally on each other! People were bouncing off of each other and using each other as support. It was actually a lot of fun!!
the guvernment is a cheap club. anyone who has been to london knows that.
sounds like a cool place. but 55 000 square feet? eek i really dont know if toronto can support that
it's about time someone used the old sega city space to create a club. i remember back in the day raves used to be held in that space until cops go wind of it.
if it's true that it is a 27 year old that owns the club now, what a great investment, if the liquor license gets approved and this club becomes all that it looks like it will be.

let's hope that this club will become another place where we can all go and dance and have a good time and see quality djs from Toronto and around the world.

The only small problem that I know of regarding lucid is the quality of its "160,000" watt sound system. I believe a lot more money went into power over clarity and quality... The distortion in there could possibly blow out the walls.

| Originally posted by charmscars does your hometown bar have a resident dj like mark oliver? bring in intl talenet regularly? is the price of land/rent the same in your home town as in toronto? there is no downtown club in TO or any other major city that has cheap drinks on a weekend night that is not a total dump. that's just the facts. there is a lot that goes into the price of a drink at an establishment. ofcourse small town clubs and bars are going to have cheaper prices. that goes w/o saying. |

You can be wearing a dress shirt with black shoes and black trousers but if you got no style then no entrance. However, someone wearing smart trainers ripped jeans and old shirt could get it if they wear it with style. I am for dress codes but as long as they are based on it being smart. Besides its hard to dance in dress shoes swilly |
Mark Oliver told me once about a story in Scotland where they asked him what was happening inside the club. (ie what band or dj is playing). If you didnt know the answer they werent letting you in
I think thats the best and only style code a club should have!

When the guy at the door decides who gets in or not, I go to another club. |
My point is that some events should be about the music. If you only let in those who are there for the music you will get rid of the losers, idiots and skids that you are trying to keep out with stupid dress codes. Plus the vibe of the party would increase substantially.
heh .. i hav a few old skool party flyers that still hav the "NO GINOS" logo on it .. classic!
I wish I was partying back then lol, just to post up one of those flyers on my "Great Cork-Board of Party Flyers"!
update!!
I stopped by Lucid today once more. The place is in full construction and the last bits of demolition are being torn away. The office was all busy and stuff.
I asked for a more specific date when they expect to be open fo business... and I was told it'll be about 6 to 8 weeks. That's not quite Spring seasion anymore (as per their posters), but anytime before Summer's over sounds good.
