Lord of the rings: The return of the King. Some levels are easy while some levels are impossible. You need cheats with this game.

Ninja Gaiden on the NES. That shit was hard. So was Ghost n Goblins. Ouchhhhh.

Rygar & Solstice ARE really really hard.

- The Adventures of Batman & Robin - Genesis (Contra+DoubleDragon hybrid with infinite ememy spawning. As much hard as its fun)

- Contra series
- Phantasy Star 1, 2
- Castlevania 8-bit series

Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 were hard but I manage to beat hem but Ninja Gaiden 3 was so freakin hard because you runout of contuines

Ghost and Goblins on NES & SNES where fuockin impossible still never beat them lol

Kung FU just pissed me off controls where kinda of sloppy

Mega Man X6 was retarded hard as for all the other Mega Man game they where hard but not like X6

The most difficult games I ever played were all puzzle games.

The Adventures of Lolo (1 and 2) were both virtually impossible.....me and a friend would play those games for hours trying to finish them..I think we finally finished 1 but did nto even get halfway through 2. (NES btw)

I think Lemmings 3d is the hardest game I own (PSX).

maybe not the hardest game ever, but TimeSplitters 2 on hard mode plus getting platinum on all the challenges. preeety tuff!

Mars Matrix for Dreamcast. Currently playing it. Im pretty good, but its tough as hell.

Hardest game by far was Friday the 13th for NES. I could never beat Jason's mother, get the torch, then find the pitch fork before Jason killed all my camp kids. After that I have yet to find a game close to its difficulty.

I'd say that Ghosts & Goblins is the hardest game I've ever played, it just drives u mad with it's sheer difficulty..
Also Little big adventure on PC is very hard to beat too...

DOOM3 at a difficulty of Nightmare.

Streets of Rage III | Toe Jam & Earl | Mega Man II (on difficult)

Pacman?

Blaster Master for NES, that game was so long and got rediculously hard towards the end. Only way I beat it was with infinite lifes.

Megaman 2 on Hard.

Just dl:ed and tried a game named Ikaruga (2001) for dreamcast... This must be the hardest shit ever!!!111

Hard to get used to. Easy to beat if you're good with reflexes.

Assuming this was the same version as appeared on my Atari 800, then you had to run around the forest collecting pieces to make the "ET phone", once completed the alien spaceship would land in a clearing in the forest at which point you ran and touched it and won the game.

As for the topic:

Hardest game I completed: Original Space Hulk for PC. Some of the levels on there I played over and over and over till I beat them. I found it to be a brutally hard game but enjoyed it none the less.

Hardest game I gave up on: Vanishing Point for Dreamcast. So frustrating. Later in the game you'd have to drive for about 40 minutes straight without making a single mistake or else you were screwed. I couldn't do it.

Star Ocean 2 (PSX)- Couldn't pass the 7th, or 8th boss(dragon) in the secret dungeon.
Kid Chameleon (Genesis)- Long game w/o save points
Batman (NES)- Hard game w/ no save points.
FF Tactics(PSX)- Some of the boss battles were difficult.
Lord of the Rings: The return of the King (PS2)- Me and my friend could never beat the stage with the elephants.
Contra Hardcorps (Genesis)- One hit and you're gone.
Megaman X (SNES)- The megaman x game were the mavericks first appear was difficult
Double Dragon III (NES)- me and my brothers could never get passed half way through the second stage (possibly the most difficult game on this list)
Legend of Dragoon (PSX)- By far the hardest RPG I've ever played.
