If your job was to dig the hole for a swimming pool and someone gave you a backhoe that didn't work, would you storm off or dig the thing by hand? The DJ goes to an event expecting that the equipment will be in good working order and I can see why they get pissed if it isnt.
The bad part is that everyone calls them a baby and gets pissed cuz they walked out and noone says shit to the no-name shady promoter that brought in the shite equipment.

Allright djings alot harder then most people think, they look up at teh stage and see the dj doing it and their like "hey thats easy anyone can do it" yea well anyone cant do it, it takes alot of practice getting your ear trained so you can detect the tempo as well as the key that a songs in. Then on top of this you need to know at least some harmonic theory so you dont end up sounding like "the devils ass crack" as one of our ta djs have refered to it.
pro djs have spent alot of time getting these skills and training and they expect certin standereds when they play for themselves and for the equipment they use. It can be fucking hard to mix properly if your constantly trying to get your equipment to work. Would you expect jimi hendrix to play on a guitare thats missing strings and is sounding like shit. i dont think so.
As for tiesto, when he played here in brazil he was really generouse. The power in the place actually went out for a few minuits the sound was shit. Even through this he kept on playing. Even played an extra 30 mins. Just becouse the crowd showed up. Then afterwords he took the time to hang out with some of the fans and shake hands with the crowd (this was in a place with at leaast 3000 people). I got respect for him. Maby he was a dick at other events but i only judge people on my own experance.
Anyways theirs my rant enjoy
ok. Djs are professionals musicians just like any rock group.
they are paid to play their music and express their feeling to the ppl with their music.
SO, you need to supply them with the equipment they need and ask. If any of the equipment is not in good condition or not what they demanded then the contract is broken and they are bound to do whatever they want. if they want to play, play. if not, don't.
Now, that of storming out can be something very frustrating for a crowd but if the dj is not feeling confortable with what he is doing, then why bother doing it.!

Ferry Corsten all the way I have not heard a shit set from him.
Marco V stormed out of gatecrasher a couple of years back without even playing. Theyd rearranged his set time during the day and he was supposed to be following Paul Oakenfold, but Oakey asked to be given longer and played on for an hour extra, Marco didn't stand for it and just left the club! They had to get Les Hemstock to play at like 1/2 hr notice and he came on and was excellent!

He played in my hometown March 18th, for a show that featured Ronald Van Gelderen, Ferry and Lisa Lashes. Headliner DJ, plays for huge crowds, every increasing in popularity and what does he do? He hangs out near the DJ area for an hour or more before his set, chatting with fans, signing autographs, having pictures taken, etc. Nice to see a DJ that knows who is responsible for his paycheque each night. |
yeah, amber, you missed it. i was kinda funny that night. it's just these damn dutch guys drink vodka like there's no tomorrow. what a bad influence. and then, you know, the bottles and mixers are all in the dj booth, so i was mixing my own drinks. you know how that goes, the first drink is reasonable, then as you get drunker they get strongerand u get exponentially drunk. a good time though- til the next night in DC when i was still hungover at 10 pm when i had to go on!
anyway... =)
peace

Ferry Corsten is the fucking man, I seen him in Detroit, he rocked the crowd with his set and his interaction with all of us put the show over the top. He then showed up at an afterparty and hung out. Then we have fucko Tiesto, seen him 2 days ago and he acted like a snobish asshole. Ferry is the peoples DJ.

| Originally posted by trancebrat That he does. He goes to dinners/meet ups and to parties. He is definitely one of the DJ's that has not let his success go to his head. I have always said this...look around TA...how often do you see someone talk shit about him? Even if someone doesn't like his productions they still will say that he is a stand up guy. That speaks volumes about Ferry...the fact that TA is not a breeding ground for hate for him like it is with other DJ's. Definitely not fair to other quality people that also happen to be DJ's...such as Armin...but that's just how it goes. |

Beginning of this year.. Judge Jules was in town for a set, him and Lisa Lashes...
The place is packed out... and I believe Serotonin was the opening DJ... spinning a sweet set I must admit... mostly vinyl, (if not, ALL) and Jules is suppose to come on at 11 I think...
So Jules goes to start his set, Mixer isn't setup right/not working (for him I suppose), CDJ isn't working (which at the time I was like, fuck just spin vinyl.. but in the end I can see why he was getting pissed).. for mixer, cdj, and then the moniter speakers fuck up and overheat... not working.. so he throw a small temper tantram, telling the event organizer or whatever that he is gonna bail if this shit doesn't get fixed... so the manager is pissing himself.. not wanting Jules to leave.. running around trying to get this shit fixed... Meanwhile, Jules is chillin like a villian with me, my buddy and about 10 others that were behind the booth drinking and takin pics..
and Serotonin is back on the decks spinning for the crowd to cover Jules butt... In the end everything got fixed and working.. and Jules threw down one of the best live sets I have ever been too... ALOT of samples and effect using the CDJ (hence why he was choked about it,
).. but he lost about 40mins of playing time due to all the problems that occurred...
sorry bout the one big paragraph...
