You could ask the french bout exactly the same thing. They accomplished NOTHING that ever lead into something close to a goal, simply because Svennis' tactics and the tight as hell english defense never allowed them to get their play going properly. England deserved to win this by far, but whether they deserved to win or not unfortunately doesn't count for shit. Goals however do, and when Zidane blazes in two of em in two minutes on overtime that is pretty much case closed.

Evil1

that damn zidane

those weren't french, those were the germans in disguise!!!!

Posted by chesco on Jun-13-2004 22:16:

All these people talking about how amazing france are need to forget about the last 2 minutes of the game and remember how an understrenghted english defence made, supposedly the best attack in the world, look surprisingly ordinary.

If it wasn't for heskey playing like a donkey and gerrard making an honest mistake you frenchies would be crying into your coq au vin.

If thats the france that will be on show for the rest of the tournament then I can't see what other teams have to fear.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Jun-13-2004 22:16:

Zidane is the only player on France that I can respect. He never complains to the referee and never swan dives. That fucking Vieria is a tool.

England totally deserved to win that game...they held France for 89 minutes and then disaster. Why wasn't Rooney allowed to take the penalty? That's two that Beckham has missed recently...he's definitely not the man anymore for it. A 2 nill lead would have put the French away for good. Heskey's fould near the box was marginal...and Mr. Gerrard...what in the hell were you THINKING?? One kick to the side and that would have been it. If James had touched the ball, it probably wouldn't have been a foul, but he had no choice after Gerrard's mistake. Scholes was awful...Beckham was mediocre except for the free kick (which was brilliant). Lampard and Ledley King impressed me very much, as well as Ashley Cole. But Rooney was, by far, the best English player on the field. He will lead this team for the next 15 years. Owen was nonexistent, however.

Potential disasters aside...England should be able to handle the Swiss and Croats and advance to meet Spain or Greece and from there, they could make it to the final. Hope is not lost my English brothers. A bad way to lose for sure...but this MUST serve as a rallying point. They can take a lot of positives away from it...

Is it you the man on the pic!!!

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Jun-13-2004 22:20:

Give respect to France for not melting away to be sure...but they were not the brilliant side everybody was predicting. They were lucky...enjoy the win all you want French fans, but any person who really knows football knows that the win was definitely horseshoes up the arse.

You probably don't know but it isn't important if England deserved to win or not. The most important thing is the final result.
I just can see that France has 3 points and England 0
Overall, The only important thing is to win the cup and who cares about which team deserve it

easy for YOU to say when your team won on two mistakes from your opponents and a bullshit call that tied it. You can enjoy this win all you want, but if France play like that in the elminiation stage, you'll be singing SAC LE BLEU.

England will advance, mark my words. I just hope most England fans in Portugal stay calm.

gawd, now i have the upmost respect for English footy fans and their passion for the sport, god bless every one of you

Posted by Electronicmaji on Jun-13-2004 22:34:

um I think it is important who deserved to win because sometimes teams win and cheated didnt deserve to win basically causing good teams to be disqaulified out of the world cup

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-14-2004 00:24:

I am gutted with the result but pleased with the performance. England should have beaten France tonight, arguably the best team in the world. We now face the prospect of Spain in a knockout should we qualify, but after today's performance against france I feel more confident than I did and I imagine French fans will feel slightly less confident despite their win.

Posted by fastmp3 on Jun-14-2004 01:27:

give me a break france the best team in the world now ? i don't think so

*puts his finger on the map showing Argentina y Brazil*

Seems to be an excess of sour grapes in England at the moment......

I didn't watch the game so i can't really comment, but it is quite funny to hear you pomms whinge (again). A harsh result to swallow for English football fans, but alas, it has happened.

You don't even want to get me started on how many times the Australian national team has broken our heart - FFS we drew 2-2 with Solomon Islands the other day, although we fielded a really shitty team with no names.

Maybe you should actually watch the game to understand the emotion surrounding it.

Key events:
38mins: Lampard scores an excellent header from a Beckham free-kick. 1-0.
72mins: All Rooney has to do is play a simple pass to Vassell and we'll almost certainly be 2-0 up. Instead he decides to take on Silvestre, he flicks the ball past him and as he's running onto it Silvestre brings him down. Silvestre is only booked and a penalty is awarded. England have another chance to make it 2-0.
73mins: Beckham misses the penalty, a decent pen but a great save from Barthez.
91mins: Zidane is outside the England 18-yard-box when Heskey needlessly challenges him from behind giving France a last-gasp free-kick in a very dangerous area.
91mins: Zidane scores a good free-kick as England's wall is badly arranged.
93mins: Gerrard, under no pressure, plays a ridiculous ball back to David James but as James and Henry chase for the loose ball James collides with Henry. He escaped a red card. Penalty.
93mins: Zidane scores his penalty, the last kick of the game.

It's not as if England were outplayed by a better side and none of us can accept it, as you are making out. France scraped a win out of nothing in the luckiest of circumstances in the dying seconds of the game.

But as I said earlier we have positives to take from this, it was a bizarre turn of events but as Eriksson said after the game you can't be unlucky all the time. We showed more ability than most have given us credit for and I imagine the confidence of most England fans has actually risen, despite defeat.

First of all , I would say english people who said they should have win 1-0 are net very objective.
France dominated all the match , we didn't defend during 2 half times.
I'm agree it's a quite impressive tactic , France never have been able to strike in good conditions and I still don't know why they tried long air center whereas English was much better in this kind of game. But telling it's luck (for the first goal) is unfair , they tried during all the 2nd half-time to find faults in your defense system and they finally got it at the end. What does it care if it's 90 or 80 or whatever? They obtained a free-kick in the same way Beckham obtained it before your goal.
You missed the penalty , bad luck , nice stop. It was the only one dangerous situation you created. (And I have to say Sylvestre should have been expulsed). Other countries can thank you now , they all now france isn't invincible (so far). Your team impressed me , although I'm not sure that you will go far in that competition with this kind of game (Notice, it is what Italy practiced in 2000). I hope we will
meet again in the last game for the revenge

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Jun-14-2004 06:49:

After reflection and discussion among other England fans, it simply comes down to two things...bad luck for England caused by 3 untimely mistakes and mental errors. The first being Beckham taking the kick, when Vassel, Lampard or Rooney could easily have taken it given the fact that Becks was Barthez's teammate a few years ago. Heskey's foul was unnecessary and aggressive. I don't know what Gerrard was doing passing the ball back....he had ample time to blast it in the stands.

But the mark of a good team is when they capitalise on chances. France did just that and won the game. But any objective football fan must admit that fortune was kind to the French on this day.

England will bounce back and advance, I'm confident of that.

Posted by XeQtOr on Jun-14-2004 08:34:

OMG!!
Did the brits get a bit pwned by the master himself: Zinedine Zidane?? Great fucking game especially for us that support the french...

Honestly the brits themself fucked it up.. If Beckham had scored from his penalty i think the brits would have won but he didn't so Zidane came and showed why he is the best football player on earth...
