Damn. Got finals that day, and am going home to Dallas as well. I'll try to make it out to the next one. Let me know if there's another Localized Night sometime during the fall semester.

that mixer is quite intimidating at first, me and alan used to hate it. but it just takes practice. obviously the biggest difference is the volume fader is a knob like everything else, and the headphone cue channel is also a knob. so just remember whats assigned to what and you'll do fine.

Matthias,

I finally listened to your entire set. It was damn good!!!. Great representation of pvds work from over the years. The mixing was flawless. Every track blended into each other perfectly.

If there is ever another pvd cd compilation contest ya might want to get this one in on time

I think you forgot to cut the mp3, @ 75 : 40 its total silence until 103:22. then plays one last song for a few mins

Did you mix this on your cdjs?

yeah all the mixes were done on the 1000s and using 8 channel behringer mixer for sound quality.

actually 75 mins was where the track was suppose to end (so it would fit on CD). the last track wasnt supposed to be there so im just re-enoding to mp3 to only get the mix up to 75mins. Didnt even catch that till you mentioned it. all good tho..

So who's all coming to Localized tonight? Sean C is letting me bring in 3 extra people for free since I was asked to play. All of my friends are either with spundae/ godskitchen (getting in free anyway) or going to other parties......meaning I still have 3 spots.

Even though I only know a select few people on here... If anyone wants to go to this and get on the guestlist: pm me or email me at [email protected] with your full name, and I will have the first 3 put on the guestlist. I'll post on here who the names are.

If and when I obtain a copy of the mp3, Im going to master it for sound clarity/ quality then cut a few CDs...and have it uploaded to my site maybe. If for some reason I cannot get one, I'll record my own mix with the same tracks...although it wouldnt have been the same exact set from that night. I'll kep you updated on it bro

This is a little off-topic, but can one of you real DJs mix Benny Benassi - Love Is Gonna Save Us -> Britnet Spears - Everytime (Above and Beyond) -> Tiesto - Traffic and post it as an mp3? Or maybe get Lori Scott to mix it since she's already mixing Benny Benassi? I know it's a strange request probably, but I want to see what a good DJ can do with those tracks...

Yes I know...I just wanted to see if a good DJ could mix what I think are very dissimilar tracks...

music is subjective..but to me a good dj is one that can mix from one track to the next without the listener having much of a clue that there *was* a transition...no matter how long said listener has been appreciating the genre in question.

then again...I can respect anyone who can get a floor rocking for the music itself, rather than the noteriety of his name

Well, I've sort of begun mixing music on the PC (and also looking at beginner mixers and such in general). I think I understand the concept of beat matching and phrase matching, but then I have questions on mixing two tracks (such as the ones mentioned above)where an apparent beat does not exist either at the beginning or at the end, AND there just doesn't seem to be a good spot to start somewhere in the middle...I wanted to see what a real DJ would do or what his/her technique would be...and what the outcome sound would be...

in alot of trance and progressive, you cue in where the actual beat begins, whether its a few seconds into a tracks or sometimes a minute. Some tracks have long intros but I usually try to avoid mixing in using those unless the intro was a full phrase (my subjective term for 64 beats, 8 counts of 8, etc)

The points on a currently playing song where I usually try to bring in the next track happen for me at every 64 beats, or 32 depending on the track. Im not sure if I am making much since here...but my best advice would definitely be to practice and see what works best for you. There is definitely not a single method for DJing (beyond the formulated crap in the mainstream clubs, radio stations and that isnt mixing)

As for me, I tend to avoid mixing two tracks together where the melodies would overlap, even if the two tracks happen to be in perfect sync and phrased...there is no gauruntee that they will sound good unless the tracks are in the same key which harmonics that compliment each other....concepts like that get more into music theory which I only know the very basics of, but mixing melodies that aren't at least in the same key tends to sound like crap (imo) The first and last 1-2 minutes of a track tend to have the least melody and just the bassline, which Ive found can be easily mixed without conflicting harmonics if you can get em matched up and phrased, and drop the beat in on time.

As far as those tracks...not really my style. I might look into if I have the time. Hope I said something that helped. I've only been at this for 3 years..but I feel ive come quite a ways during that time so if you have any more questions I can try to help. Hopefully I can say the same for any other musician on here.

I certainly appreciate it...it all makes sense, I'm just gonna have to play around...
