God that shits me, so many bloody Americans do this.

Many people who are uninformed about electronic music call it techno. Not just 'Americans.'
But, technically, by referring to the group simply as 'Americans' you are including all of South America and Central America as well.
So I guess I don't feel so insulted.

Putting a defensive and expected reaction aside, you have got to have experienced this a little, unless bias is well and truly your god.
Well, when I went to the US, and thats what I meant about Americans, I noticed people saying this alot, when speaking about what sort of music people liked. Didn't matter whether it was house, trance or jungle tunes, it was all 'techno'.
Even Enimem called Moby 'techno', seemed reflective.
I don't think anybody that is uneducated about EDM in Australia calls it 'techno', they call it 'doof doof', which I hate also.

I have experienced people calling any form of electronic music 'techno.' It's frustrating, I will admit it.
I just don't understand the point of particularly criticizing 'Americans' in this crusade. Obviously you have some deep-rooted anger against someone from the United States or you are just looking for a reaction (I'm assuming #2).
I think from now on in any thread you participate in I will make an off color comment along the lines of 'Why do so many bloody Australians call it 'doof doof'?'
EDIT - Another note: If you are looking to Eminem as a reflection of the education of Americans in general and their education on culture, music, or anything for that matter, you might want to reevaluate that decision.

In order to fit your high levels of fairness its seems that when makign a comment on a particular part of American culture I will also have to include similar explanations of the same thing in parts of Asia, Africa and Europe. Will that suffice?
My original comment on the use of the word 'techno', (I can't believe I'm having this silly argument) was due to the use of the word in referring to EDM by the website that inspired this thead. If you happen to find an Australian website that uses the term 'doof doof', then feel free to use it, but I must warn that I am not as emotionally involved as you on the issue.

I have no 'emotional involvement' in the issue, as you put it. I'm just curious as to why you need to include completely arbitrary comments such as that in your posts.
Another thing confuses me. You preach on how nobody should judge, yet you paint all of the residents of the United States with a broad band of ignorance yourself.
Judge not, lest ye be judged.
I have to go to bed anyways. Nice sharing another argument with you.

The pleasure has been all mine.
I wouldn't classify our interaction as an argument though, if you do, then I'd hate to see how calm just general chit chat is.
You can easily point the bone at me for making a comment about Americans, and given the high level of patriotism and national pride, and lack of general world understanding, this is hit back on straight away with a defensive reply. But I'm not invading your country, I'm making a comment, from my own personal experience, on the use a musical word. No need to get so fired up.
