Um... A water bottle and a rock thrown at me would get me pissed off too.

Those are some pretty rude fans.

poor okey. Sounds like he lost the plot all right. I went to see Tsuyoshi Suzuki at a Vortex outdoor trance bash in 2001. Now you know these outdoor creatures, they like it full one psy all the way. Suzuki came and puched his new style banging trance (hard trance) and massive build ups. At the end of his set, the crowd was moaning that he was playing too much house. I was off my nelly and really enjoyed his set, so I went up behind the stage to catch a glimpse of this jap hero, and low and behold, some spaced out psy freak, plants a cream pie smack into tsuyoshis face! pooof!!...and then handed him a towel!! Needless to say, I guess its the last time I will see him in my town. Pitty, as he rocks...trance or house, whatever, the guy can mix.

wait he pied the guy in the face...and then handed him a towel??? Those crazy japanese.
Theres another story (true one) of some robbers who robbed a bank in Japan for however many million, leaving behind a genuine thankyou note.

couldn't agree more (though i dont dj yet, soon)

Posted by Torley Wong on Aug-28-2004 07:19:

One of the bigger considerations of a DJ in a position of having to deal with lousy equipment is that if the crowd is less than pleased with his or her performance, the DJ will have suffered a recognizable hit to the reputation and that does count for something while you're trying to build rapport and consistency. If there are interviews afterwards, it is likely an explanation will be given for why the sound quality was poor.

After all, if you were hyped up for a great show, wouldn't you want a great show? And for legal reasons as has been previously stated on TA, if a DJ is contractually guaranteed a specific set of equipment in excellent working condition, than the performer should receive nothing less than the spec.

There have been exceptions when the DJ turned the crappy situation around and did something like smash a record to pieces and then aced a scratch routine using the itty bitty pieces a la DJ Swamp (not to be confused with DJ Swamper ) and got the primal energy soaring. Those kind of "saves", not unlike a drummer thrashing a set of sticks, are amazing.

Like Vladimir Horowitz on an old, detuned upright . . .

It certainly looked pretty busy by that time... we had to queue to get in the main arena! I thought he'd just been delayed (stuck in 'traffic', ho ho ho)... something must have gone wrong at some point though because they were very behind schedule and Armin only ended up playing for ~40 minutes or so.

its true tiesto refused to play on his original set time cose he said the arena want full enough what a stuck up little prick

Did he tell you that personally or something?

And even if that was the reason then well, lets be honest, it was Scott Bond's timeslot he swapped with... how many of all the people there travelled just to see Scott Bond; the mediocre b-list DJ who only got to play because he was co-owner of crasher at that time? Compare that to how many Tiesto fans were stuck outside in the freezing cold come the start of his original timeslot (I got in just before Scott came on and there were still SHITLOADS of people behind me... thanks to the retarded NEC door staff)... I'd say asking to swap times would have been a curteous thing to do for all the people outside, even if it did mess the times up overall (I *think* G&D ended up extending their set until Scott was Ready).

You've basically decided that a message board is right? Even ahead of a comment from the man himself.

Nickleback (not a DJ, but a performing artist nonetheless) were in portugal and they were on their second song and they kept on getting rocks and food thrown at them.

then the lead singer got on the mic "are there any Nickleback fans in portugal?" then he throws his glass of water in the crowd and walks off the stage showing the finger.

i saw this video on the net and laughed continously for a long time, if i find it ill post it

A finnish rock band, The Rasmus, had a knife thrown at them from the audience. It hit the singer on the neck, luckily it wasn't the sharp end.

Also, one of the finnish Idols was performing at a freebie outdoor festival and had broken bottles thrown at him. One of them hit a dancer in the arm and she was hurt pretty badly.

Needless to say the band(s) walked out of stage on both accounts.

The Rasmus are shit but they don't deserve that

Yoji was awesome in Osaka last weekend 8/20. no technical problems, played dumonde - cold... i was a happy camper.

the velfarre story is funny to me for several reasons... 1. velfarre gets alot of hype as having the best equipment in japan. 2. velfarre is owned by yojis record label. you would think that they would have fixed it, or switched him to the main dj booth at the back of the dance floor.... he had every right to walk off.

To be quite honest, Velfarre has a lot of good technology running through it, but the sound system is by far NOT the best for Tokyo clubs...

Now, you say Velfarre is owned by Yoji's record label... which record label are you talking about? Yoji has his own label being Hellhouse Recordings... he is also under contract with Avex Traxx, and Avex is the label that owns Velfarre...

as for Yoji himself, ill just say that Yoji has a major attitude problem... he sees himself as some major rockstar when he's in his home country... nobody can get near him at all... he's not like other "superstar" DJs when they come to Japan, where you can BS with them and even have a drink with them at times... I remember when i talked to Yoji backstage after his final "Viva" night (my friend had him booked for Denver, I was the liason for him) and Yoji just had this hella arrogant attitude... as i was leaving, i remember hearing him rant off all over his agent for letting someone backstage...

good dj, can really work a crowd, but i have no respect for his attitude...

but the djs before & after him had absolutely no problems

That could have to do because afterwards there were more people in the room ? Just guessing, in his early years he didn't get full rooms like nowadays I spinned into this hallway once, well, not a hallway, it was an old metro station (closed), you know what shape I'm talking about now right ? It had terrible echo I couldn't make sence of what was mixing and what was in beat or not. If I heared a kick in my headphones, I would hear it back a second later from the echo lol, insane. Moved the monitors closer and didn't have any trouble anymore.
