Anyone here use chords for basslines rather than just single notes? I got to thinking of how I never ever do it....
Anyone do that? Any pros do it you think?

2nds and 5ths are often used... 3rds aren't very often from my experience..

I found a mp3 I made 2003-09-01 and never finished...thought it sounded good, except for some mastering...

its not trance (its dnb) but its got a heavy heavy break (combination of the amen break with my own hardcore break, programmed out of single shots. the amen drops half way through so you can hear the original break on its own). the sub bass is made with z3ta+ demo, reece bass is also made with z3ta+ demo but is distorted with sc overdrive then flanged in z3ta+ and heavily phased.

http://fileserv3.soundclick.com/fastb8/HiF/katjunkie+dirtybassybreak.mp3

note - the synths fade in and out sometimes. thats just the demo. i think im gonna buy z3ta+. its an absolute monster of a synth.

I couldn't check yours at work...filter says it's considered NUDITY.

Posted by Derivative on Oct-21-2004 19:52:

well, it is rude dnb, but its not rude enough to be blocked by netnanny. that really IS rude

heres the link. try it again. its my most monstrous bass and break ive made to date.

Posted by alanzo on Oct-21-2004 20:09:

netnanny? wtf? people actually use that worthless thing?

how old are you Rico?

Posted by Derivative on Oct-21-2004 20:27:

i was actually joking it must be every drum and bass producer's dream to write a track so rude that you cant stream it off the net without every nudey blocking program filtering it out. eheheh.

I checked it from a government computer at the hangar where I work. The filters in the U.S. Army servers are stupid. You go to a website that's totally innofensive and it blocks it and says either considered dating, nudity, gambling, violence, sex, etc...and it's the freakin' pop-ups' fault, you know? It's really stupid. And we have our own account on the server and whatever you watch, it gets recorded at the Pentagon.

I just checked it here at my apartment. Sounds very good, but I expected more kick thump . Other than that, I liked it.

Posted by Derivative on Oct-21-2004 23:34:

heheh. drum and bass tends to have a lighter kick because theres so much bass and sub. having a heavier kick would make it clip
