correct... and good post - good links too, interesting read.

I am a BIG lover of democracy and as such am an advocate for healthy debate.

One of the beautiful things about democracy is that it allows us to be entitled to our own opinions, and our opinions should each be worth as much as one anothers.

People can vote or like who they want for absolutley what ever they want.

I agree with so much of what renegade says and the others. I agree the war on Iraq was wrong, I like labours education and medicare policy better, I dont know what the kyoto policy is but from what I hear Johnny has fucked it up. But for my own resons I will still vote liberal.

But let me make this clear for this is a ceritifed FACT!..

Webmeister or anyone else has no right to label me or any other "ignorant" for voting johnny or liberal or anyone, just as I have no right to do the same to labour voters.

I have a democratic right to vote for who I choose and have my vote justified by the simple fact that it's MY vote. I can vote Johnny just because Pink helmet thinks he's cute or I like his funky eyebrows and it's a valid vote and opinion.

So stop with the insults becasue we don't vote who u do...this goes to both sides. Feel free to try to educate me on your view ( as renegade did so well!) I always listen and read with an open mind, but do not label me ignorant or anything else becasue I don't commit to your stance on a issue. Otherwise democracy stops as soon as u do.

Woah. I wasn't having a go at you, or anyone else who's expressed an opinion in this thread.

I'm suggesting that people who just parrot what they've heard on television or read in the papers and use that as their insight should really do some actual research and be prepared to think for themselves

The biggest challenge we face as a country is apathy.

Sorry webbby, i agree with u on doing a little research and didn't mean it to come across a comment to you directly, but to both sides of the debate who sit their slinging insults because they don't agree with each other.

What everyone has to remember is that even the worst things in our lives have a good outcome for someone else, it's sad but true.

For example One country goes to war and people are killed but suddenly there are jobs making weapons and supplies and jobs to be filled by to replace those that have died ( it's a horrible fact of life I know and I dont like it but thats the way it goes.) This is why there is no "right" or "wrong vote, simply the vote that suits u best.

Different ppl place different emphasis on certain issues eg interest rates, security, refugees, legalizing e as some mentioned in another thread. I dont like a few of the Libs policies, I dont much care for howard, and I dont like some of the things liberal have done, but those things that i place emphasis on liberal appeals to more.

from the official cthulhu mythos faq

Cthulhu is a large green being which resembles a human with the head of a squid, huge bat-wings, and long talons (true, that doesn't really resemble a human, but bear with me here). According to H. P. Lovecraft's story "The Call of Cthulhu", Cthulhu rests in a tomb in the city of R'lyeh, which sank beneath the Pacific Ocean aeons ago. Cthulhu is dead but not truly dead, as he and his fellow inhabitants of R'lyeh sleep the aeons away. (Cthulhu is generally thought of as a "he" for some reason.) From time to time R'lyeh comes to the surface, and Cthulhu's dreams influence sensitive individuals across the globe to depict his image, slay, and found cults dedicated to him. In the past, R'lyeh has sunk after a short time, but the day will soon come when it rises to the surface permanently and great Cthulhu strides across a world thrown into chaos and anarchy from his telepathic sendings.

As has been stated before, Cthulhu is not the most important or powerful being in the Mythos, but he wins in terms of sheer popularity among his fans. No one is sure why, but that's the way things are.

Well it is true that many young people are ignorant. That does not mean that those voting for Latham are ignorant. There are ignorant people voting for all sides of politics.

It is, however, in the self interest of the vast majority of young people to vote for Labor or the Greens. Young people are almost all low income earners, students or unemployed. If you are in any of those groups there is no reason for you to be voting for Howard. The only young people who should really be voting for Liberal are the really rich and those who are ideologically right wing. I would say that group makes up about 5-10% of young people. Anyone else voting for Howard is probably doing so through ignorance (often because thats who their parentes vote/voted for).

The liberals plan to add 25% more to university fees. For anyone that goes to university that is going to put you thousands of dollars out of pocket. Full fee paying places took away university spots for the rest of us and made it harder for those who cant afford to pay full fees to get into the course they want to get in to, while allowing some to jump the queue. The GST hurt us. Tax cuts didnt help us. Low interest rates dont help us, in fact they have contributed to the property boom which means if you live in Sydney and Melbourne, your rent has gone up and you can forget about buying a house in the next 10 yrs, esp in a nice area.

Howard knows that young people dont really matter when it comes to voting, because they make up a small percentage of the voting population but also because most young people dont really care about politics and thats why he does nothing for us.

its in my best interests to vote liberal
