yeh but look at the crowd he has in front of him
my granny could go on the decks, play a load of trance classics and become the next superstar. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time for this to happen. It doesnt take any sort of special skill or any ability.

oh that old chestnut... you always bash tiesto and armin style shit trance therefore you mustnt actually like any music

After cutting through the vat of ignorance, redundance, and "LOL dat's all i gotsta say's", I come to this:

I'm not talking about the music they play, but rather their skills as Disk Jockeys. How well they utilize the 1200's. Can you process that through your thick skull?
They play different music, but it's debatable as to whether Chris Poland plays the guitar more proficiently than Keith Richards. Same concept here.

i dont see what a tiesto fan is doing saying 'LOL' to Surgeon, Henry Chow and Heiko Laux ... what exactly is funny about those djs? I dont get the joke.

Thats NOT what I said. I said I didn't want to enter into this argument and it doesn't really pertain to this argument (well maybe a little), and its not only the Armin/Tiesto style trance that I see you knocking - cos thats not 100% my style either, and I am often reading other stuff
So please, answer the question. If you don't want to do it in this topic (whether you feel it may open you up to criticism or what), pm me the answer, but in future it will help me understand where you are coming from......

do you want a list of tracks, a list of djs, or a vague description of genres that i will just make up or a combination of all three?

Just sorta vague genres, with djs to illustrate exactly what you're talking about.

I think everyone knows Laushinameee loves Paul Van Dyk and any artist associated with him.

ok, fairy nuff. We actually have very similar interests (add in there Marco V, and harder stuff again Kai Tracid and Dumonde). I thought once or twice I saw you bashing PvD, but I must have been mistaken.
Anyway, I'll let you get back to the argument at hand. For my part, I like Tiesto as well, he's not my favourite, his mixing is pretty average some of the time, and he hasn't been as good recently as he has been in the past.

yeh you probably have, I have a lot of interest in Paul van Dyk, probably more so than those other djs... but he pulls off a lot of shit sets, and plays a lot of shit tracks. He isnt immune from my slating...
Kai Tracid is doing some great things recently, in the past he was pretty crap though.

When I saw PVD in central park this year I think me and my g/f were the oldest ones their (were both 21).
The venue was filled with 16-18 yr. old 'raver types'. It was an interesting crowd to say the least.
And PVD's set was shit. I wish I never spent the $$ to fly out to NYC to see him.
However, his last gig here at Sound-Bar had a much older crowd and his set was amazing.
When Tiesto can to Chicago the crowd was mixed. I think more than 80% of the people there were over 21.
So I think both Dj's get the same amount of younger and older fans. It depends where the gig is at I guess.

Off-Topic:
Continuing Nite-Mer's interest in what I think about Sasha & Digweed and their contributions to EDM...their statement that they "made the first 'proper' mix CD" pretty much tells me that most of what they do is based on pretense and self-adulation. Making such bold and false statements as that doesn't help their credibility much.

So all of the people at his shows are young? And you would know this how?

ignoring the actual substance of their sets... they are both billed as 'Trance' djs by the media... and trance always attracts the younger, more clueless crowd... not that theres anything wrong with a young crowd interested in electronic music, but today the people seem to be so lazy, they have an interest, but only up to a point. Theyll like armin or tiesto & maybe markus schulz and no one else, they dont want to know anything about anything else, and thats the bad thing.

not really, sure i have that interest, and I like him as a dj... but its more an interest in the history rather than the present.

Yes, but to me you are young yet you say his shows attracts young crowds. Curious what your definition of young is. No I am not attacking you. I am simply asking you a question.

young = 14 - 21
I would think that once most people hit 21 they would have grown out of tiesto? although in the UK the age at which you can actually get into clubs is a bit more advanced.

Actually I have to sort of agree here, Tiesto does have A LOT of young fans. Having said that, he does also have a lot of older fans too. The reason for this is that becasue he gets a lot of attention, Tiesto is often the introduction to trance for a lot of people. As a result, they think he's really good, but as time goes on their horizons broaden a bit and they move off into sub genres. There are also older fans though, who remember Tiesto BEFORE he was no. 1, and have stuck true, much like you following a sports team when they were the up and comers, they won a couple of premierships and heaps of people jumped on board, but now they aren't going so well but they have the reputation so new peole still support them until they realise that maybe there are other better teams and change allegiances, and the old fans wish for a return to what was.

Lets be honest. Good music like good wine takes a lot of time and effort to find. You can't expect your average clubber to do the dirty work of finding the next big thing. They expect the club promoters and owners to do that for them. Clubber want to get drunk and hit on girls.
That said.
I think a large part of the blame should go to the club promoters who bring in bullshit DJ's to the clubs and help create the bullshit club culture which is more of a show rather than an appreciation of the art form which is EDM.
They're are a few clubs in Chicago which have done their fair share to rebuild EDM in Chicago but hundreds still remain in the dark ages. As a result the typical Chicago clubber only knows of Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, and Armin and the tunes they play.
Also.
Its the media outlets in the cities which promote shitty music. Here in Chicago we have no dance music station at all. Just rap and hip-hop. We did awhile ago but it was filled with euro-cheese and shitty bad boy bill sets. This did not help to create the educated clubber one hopes for.

Let me very honest with you.
I think all DJ's have shitty qualities. I have yet to find one DJ that is perfect. As you know Laushinameee I told you many times before the qualities of PVD I don't like. And others have heard me bitch about Tiesto, Armin, etc. As a result I just decided to buy records myself and play shit I like. Fuck hoping to try to find a person that will play tracks you like. Just do it yourself. I think its futile to try to find that perfect DJ.
