-- Tiesto Paid £40,000 For 2 Hour Set...

The problem with this is that it's the clubbers that end up footing Tiesto's bill with outrageous ticket prices. If the club capacity is 2000 people, they'd have to charge $40 a head just to break even on the DJ fee. That's just way, way, way too much to pay to see one DJ spin for 2 hours.

right so let preach for a bit. when i saw pvd in sanfran it was common knowledge that he got $60 grand for a three hour set. the club holds about 2500 people. yep thats a shit load of money for three hours work but break it down. 15% goes to his booker and another 10% goes to his manager. still its a lot of money to put in your wallet at the end of the night. now then how many of us have burned a cd for ourselves and then gone and burned 3 more for our best friends. dj's make more on the road than they do in record sales. they lose SO much money because of bootlegging that the HAVE to charge that much. so you know what? i'll gladly pay the 30 to 40 bills to see dj whoever as long as they don't haul my ass to court for owning illeagal copies of everything theyve ever produced. i'll gladly bend over thank you very much.

and btw clubs make a killing on alcohol and water sales. don't be fooled.

PvD, Oakey, Tiesto etc etc are all millionaires - they dont HAVE to charge anything.

I think its only really tiesto & oakey who have set fees anyway - most other djs are always negotiable, so if you are a small club night promoter you shouldnt get put off by what you 'think' these people get paid, its all negotiable.

your missing the point. they make millions not because of a cd or wtf. theyv'e made it by lots of hours on the road. hey don't get me wrong. i can't stand tiesto or oakey etc. etc. i stick to the small guys.

Yep. The average amount of money an artist gets from record sales is equal to the yearly wage of a city sanitation worker with two years' experience and no health benefits (true fact, too). The majority of an artist's income comes from live performances and various public appearances.

$80,000 a night? Bullshit. Utter bullshit. Thats 3 or 4 times what most people make in a YEAR. Even at $5 grand a night, one gig a week, that's $260 thousand dollars a year. That's a fucking killing. Hell, at $1000 a night, one gig a week, they're making $52 grand a year. That's enough to live very comfortably.

He didn't get paid anything. They offered it free, and he accepted.

That's promotion right there.EVERYONE in the world is watching him.

Posted by wolverine16 on Nov-19-2004 07:23:

Yeah, and then he made a CD from it, so a lot of people will go to the store looking for other things and remember seeing him this summer. Though I don't think they even mentioned his name or showed him for a second in NBC's coverage in the U.S.

Unless you actually took the time to watch the broadcast. You're in the States, and if you watched it you'd know that they not once mentioned him, they only showed him once from far behind (you had to really be paying attention) before going to a commercial, and you had to have the volume up all the way to barely make out what was playing.

Sounds like great promotion, huh?

The music was pretty clear in the UK broadcast, although it still had talking over it most of the time (unsurprisingly) & they did a few close-ups and had the retard commentators trying to describe the music ... guess it varied between countries. Either way it's the most exposure a DJ has ever had for a single event so... it's gotten his name out that little bit more.

Posted by wolverine16 on Nov-19-2004 08:08:

There was nothing in the U.S., as mentioned earlier, but I think I recall seeing a clip from German TV that showed quite a bit of him. I'm sure some countries paid a lot more attention than the U.S. did. He can sellout venues here, but the vast majority of the Olympic audience wouldn't have known who he was, so it wasn't really in NBC's interest to cover him. Even those who hate Tiesto have to admit he couldn't have been worse than some of the performance art they had that night.

People really need to look at the business standpoint of things and stop bitching about eithical prices and selling out. Stupid thread again.

+1. Its a business, plain and simple. If the club want to pay him that much so be it. I really don't understand why there is outrage over this when its a matter of simple economics, not artistry or authenticity.

thats true

but if it wasnt tiesto making that exorbatant amount of moula it would be in the club owners pocket too

i mean, i wonder whether any of the djs do donations and stuff like that to world vision and charities.

out of curiosity what bar is this? is it a chain one? (eg YATES' or osmethin?)

wher u live m8?

Posted by CND on Nov-20-2004 05:27:

According to the promotors website Tiesto is buying us in San Diego the first (and maybe second & third) round of drinks the night of his show. Presale Ticket @ $20 = $1.3 Euro.

"Hosted Bar from 9:30-10:30! Thats right! As a show of appreciation to our fans eventvibe.com and Tiesto are footing the bill from 9:30pm-10:30 pm, featuring Stoli Vodka!!!"

Maybe its all the money save on the cheeseplate? The cheeseshop down the street can be quite expensive.

God bless you Tiesto.
