I still like Lottie and Ann Savage for the housey stuff. They're always underrated, except in England. For hard techno I used to like the Praxis guys. For trance, I like a bunch of fringe German and Dutch guys; don't care for many of the dj's predominating right now. I think Ferry has a lot of potential but he's not playing to my tastes lately. My trance tastes tend towards either: 1) syrupy melodic (system F,..Wazari) or 2) the harder stuff- Holographic,.. Tomcraft

Right now I have turned more towards industrial dj's.... I think trance is destined to go very industrial, very soon, as a backlash to this electro-funk trend.

This thread makes me think that tranceaddict's opinions (including my own) are over-rated

Posted by AirDrawnDaggers on Dec-03-2004 16:17:

so basically, anyone in the top ten is over rated? Sasha isnt recognised as much as Tiesto i dont think, yet he should be.

Over rated = Judge FKIN Jules, Lisa Lashes....

zabiela - omg he scratches, amazing, shame he can barely stick 2 records together half the time.

stop talking shit. ive seen him twice now and hes not dropped a beat on either night. hes technically the best dj out there. if you think that scratching is all there is to him, then you really dont get it.
hes not overrated in the slightest, and deserves all the hype he gets.

again,again,again...

i dont really think lisa lashes is over rated any more the hard house crowd spend alot of time bashing her she has really gone down hill recently.

Overated:

Hybrid
Desyn Masello
Sander K (love his music, but he changes his sets maybe every 6 months at best. He is still playing the same tracks that he played at Sensation, so thats why I think he is overated)
Judge Jules
and probably the most overated:

Christopher Lawrence

Markus - Crap. Not truly progressive at all; the shit he plays all sounds the same. He's trying to make prog mainstream, but that's not what the stuff is about at all. Blame dumbass Americans who don't know what prog is for his success.

Armin - An obvious one. So he plays the newest (crap) tunes. Uhh, yeah... so?

Tisto - Can't mix, but gets the teenyboppers jumping (and appearantly, the "OMG CHOON!" people that post here regularly, too). Go figure.

Holden - At times. Some of his productions lean alittle to the McProg side of things, but I like him.

Gabriel & Dresden - Yawn. Another attempt to make prog popular. Formulaic.

Way Out West - Some (ok, most) of their music is boring.

Zabiela - My favorite DJ along with Sasha, definitely, but he's way overrated by some of you people. Yes, he is the best of all the more known DJs, but he's really not much compared to the lesser known turntablists. I'd say he's the perfect combination of great music and great DJing though.

Oakenfold - Not around here, but in general, he is overrated. He was voted into the top 10 again, don'tcha remember?

Posted by Radagast on Dec-03-2004 19:37:

I think there are too many overrated people to list. So...take away their gimmicks, take away their ego, and take away the quality of the music they play...what you have left is a technically sound DJ in:

Laurent Garnier
Sasha
Digweed
Bad Boy Bill
Richie Hawtin

Leave all that stuff in and who is left over? Laurent Garnier.

Posted by Ory on Dec-03-2004 20:04:

Ah wait, I forgot:

Above & Beyond - ... Actually, I don't think I have to say anything on this one.

Posted by Swayzak on Dec-03-2004 20:15:

1.Markus Schulz

2.Tiesto

3.Armin Van Buuren

4.Bad Boy Bill

5.Perry o'neil

6.Zabiela

this thread is priceless, what utter utter bollocks. Lets slag some of the most talented electronic musicians and DJs because they're sucsessful. Ferry corsten sucks, lol what a joke.

Posted by tribu on Dec-03-2004 20:47:

I dislike Ferry because his sets are primarily composed of his own songs, many of which I dont think much of. I wouldnt say he sucks, but i dont think hes intensely better than any other DJ who can beatmatch.

Just for the sake of discussion

Agreed definitely with Christopher Lawrence, but what's the reason behind Desyn Masiello? He's a hell of a lot better than Probspot, Markus, and Perry O'Neil, who play nothing but "diet-cola" wannabe progressive. Take a listen to his new Bedrock cd.

Whats even funnier is that you think he's good.

Lets not jump to conclusions on this guy. Ferry does have some redeeming qualities as a DJ.

So, fridaypassion, what is it about Ferry Corsten's DJing style that you really like? Remember, opinions without anything to back them up are wasted posts

the reason why I think Desyn is overated is pretty much the same as Sander. These guys play the same setlist for 6 months straight. The only reason its not widely known is because their sets are never recorded and shared. I have heard Desyn twice since his Kiss sets aired, and he is still playing the same thing almost in the same order. If Armin and the other guys we hear regularly on shows were to only to record a set every six months, everyone here would be singing their praises. But since we hear them week in and week out, people take them for granted.
