As PvD's greatest fan ( SF) I have heard him close with For an Angel many times and to be honest it does not bother me. I dont think, Daph, that he is relying on it for an ovation. I think he plays it cause he truly loves it and he knows many people love it and probably have never heard it live. I have had the luxury of hearing PvD over 10 times while the vast majority have heard him once or twice. Now if his sets were replicas, playing all the same tracks, that is a different story. I say he can close on that tune if he chooses. It does not break or make his set for me. It is what leads to it. For an Angel is a great track which cannot be denied. I will judge his set from the rest of his track selection and his mixing.

BTW, SF what happened in Miami. I got to hangout in the dj booth with PvD.

I agree that his Synesthasia remix is one of his best although 1998 is probably his best !!! The En Motion remix of Synesthasia is better then the PVD mix IMHO.

Also there is no way that Forbidden Fruit or Words or Tell me Why can be regarded as Cheeze....No BLOODY WAY !!!! We are Alive maybe...but even that's debatable.

PVD = GOD !!! No doubt about it

Heheh, this is exactly the one-sided bullheadedness i'm talking about. I didn't say those tracks are "widely regarded" as cheese. I said that I think they are cheese. They just sound so gay and wimpy to me. Doesn't mean Paul's that way. Just those songs. Still think his remix of Synesthasia kicks some f#ckin ASS! I spin that record in my room everyday for no reason. Just to hear it. But as good as it is, it can't make up for FF, Words, TMW, or WAAlive, or FAAngel..... (sorry Arturo, just not my preference in music!)

Okay point taken...u think they are cheeze...fine that's your opinion. I can't imagine Cheeze and those trax in the same sentance...that's like saying that 1998 or Cafe del Mar is cheeze. Oh well 2 each his own i guess...

at least we agree that Synesthasia is a great track.

Idea

im gonna just put my word in the PVD debate. now i have my own opinion of PvD and i wont air it becuase i will get flamed because i have never (wanted) to hear is livesets. For an angel nowadays is cheese, i hear it in every crappy club in my town. but thats only because now its that old it seems like cheese, but when it was created it was infact great 100% bonified none dairy product and anyway we all have different tastes, some people even like fragma FFs. actually maybe thats a little extreme also i think some paul van dyke fans think he not only invented trance, but is also the only DJ who spins and makes decent trance to this day, which gets on my tits *calm!* hehe

Tiesto has been spinning mostly trance all these while.

Tiesto trying to be like Oakey?
More like Oakey trying to be like Tiesto.
Please, get your brains sit up in the right position.

excellent point man, right on!!

My fav PVD tune is Another Way. That record is a masterpiece! I wonder why he never plays sunblind.

Posted by mute79 on Oct-24-2001 05:54:

while on the subject of pvd, we had a poll/thread on toronto forum who had a better set, tiesto or pvd... i had seen both a few weeks back, and i was VEEEEERY dissapointed with pvd...

Posted by Subfuture on Oct-24-2001 06:00:

What the hell do you guys know?
Three years ago, you all know squat shit about Tiesto.
When Tiesto started getting popular, you all feckin worshiped him, saying he is the next best thing..blah, blah, blah....

Then, Oakenfold was the joke. Playing all cheesy trance and all that crap. Before that, what was Oakey playing?
For all you people, who are not new to the scene, knows that Oakey has been changing his style of music every few years. Acid house, Drum n Bass, goa trance....Now, he is playing all the cheesy trance, and you calling Tiesto copying Oakenfold, when all along Tiesto was hammering trance??
Get a fookin grip. Oakenfold is moving towards progressive now, then who is the one copying?
Oakey is fuckin smart, he moves where the money is, and all you people are hitting on the wrong djs.

Yes, same tunes are played in a set.
Programming wise it will differ.
Tiesto always keep his mixes tight, thus more energy.
Oakey on the other hand always mixes at the end of each track, creating flow, lesser energy.

Seriously, you kids know shit. Only know how to compare Djs, make sarcastic remarks, making yourself look as if you know a lot when all you know makes you look like a bloody fool.
Pathetic.

Posted by Twilogoddess on Oct-24-2001 06:37:

[b]We are NOT comparing styles just the simple fact that they both play the same old records. Not exactly the same records but they play the same records in every city. They play old played out tunes and anthems. The 2 of them NEED to go record shopping badly!

Tiesto is fully capable of playing a spine tingling mind blowing set he just isn't maximing is potential. I still love him though.

As is Oakey...as much as you dislike him...they both have a lot of talent...I challenge anybody that's actually sat behind two decks in front of a crowd of people to say anything bad about Tiesto or Oakey or PVD for that matter. If you've never actually spun before you really aren't qualified to say anything in the first place...

Btw, Twilo, this isn't directed at you personally, just seemed like a good segue into my mini rant.

That's all.

Mark

oakenfold should be praised

i know in my heart oakey has been my favorite dj. He is always a step ahead of the crowd in track selection, even before tiesto. I remember when his cd "traveling" came out in october of 2000, there were two very unique songs in it that tiesto has now begun to routinely play in his sets. They were utah saints - "lost vagueness" and jan johnston - "flesh". So guys dont say that Oakenfold is bad and all this other crap. Can you hold a beat better then oakey? Id like to hear you try...

- wookieslut

p.s. golden girls - "kinetic" (frank de wulf remix) is the best song of 1992.

So if Oakie...ever heard Goa Silver Mix ? Or his Fluro CD's ? I know they are hold mixes but get your hands on those and you will realize the true genious of Oakenfold. The man can make magik when he puts his mind to it. The Goa mix is pure class...probably one of the best mixes I have ever heard.

i love SunBLIND!

Posted by Ste on Oct-24-2001 12:06:

if he goes where the money is, then its always going to be commercially angled, so oakeys REAL fans will be made to look daft by the thousands of clubber-wannabe-clones. He may be smart and making a lto of money, but people who change their music to suit commercial value lose practically all my respect, even tiesto now. And as for cheese. Why do you all think only plucky, tinny, ian van dahl-esque trance is cheese? you can get prog cheese, hard house cheese, theres a lot of shit out there, take that remix of "hide u". in my mind that was cheese. the original with some wierd sounds in and labelled prog. woop de doo. nothing against oaky, tiesto, or van dyke, but i dislike it when peopel change their music style/genre just to make more money, coz they forgetting the REAL fans that liked their ORIGINAL style. sorted

Correct me if I am wrong but you are saying that if "For An Angel" was released today it would be considered "cheese" LOL that is the funniest thing I've ever heard. If it was released today it would likely be song of the year or at least one of the best songs of the year.

Posted by arturob on Oct-24-2001 16:09:

If 'FOR AN ANGEL' IS CHEESE, WTF IS 643!?!?!?!?!?

im sorry but i couldn`t resist. don`t worry. there will be a new remix of FAA... and you tell me if it WILL BE CHEESE ALSO!

...
Many GReetings,

f0x.

PS: i'll be watching...

Your one annoying dumb little person who thinks you're better than everyone else.

Isn't it ironic when you call yourself a Music Critique but mention tracks that are cheesy as hell in your sig like that Scot Project junk.
