Originally posted by SYSTEM-J I read that thread. All you said was that "McProg" is uninventive and banal. Over and over. You've never once given a single reason why what you listen to is any different, and I don't think you have a reason.

Originally posted by Ory Then obviously the stuff I think deserves alot more respect is not uninventive and banal? Jeez, I thought you knew why McProg is disliked by experienced listeners...
Agree with that ^^
Ory - you're a bit of a clown shoe

Originally posted by SYSTEM-J You still aren't giving a reason. You seem to be suggesting that you only listen to music that isn't banal and uninventive, but you're buggered if you're actually going to tell us why it isn't. Counter-argument: McProg isn't banal and uninventive, what you listen to is. McProg is a pretty new genre, so new that there isn't really a proper name for it. How can something new not be inventive? And don't try that "super-saws and big melodies" crap, because you may as well argue using a 909 kick/clap beat is uninventive. NOTE: I don't necassarily believe that, but I have listened to some McProg and it isn't any less inventive and orginal than any other form of progressive.
People who've listened to techno/house since the 80's probably have better taste than I, because of all the music they've heard. I haven't been around for long, but sometimes it seems as if I've heard more diverse stuff than others here, and that's just sad, because you shouldn't rely on some overhyped DJ to bring you the newest music.

So why don't I flame "dull progressive house" lovers? Because that kind of music isn't in my face all the time, and it hasn't gotten as extremely ridiculous as McProg nor dutch anthem trance.

| Originally posted by Ory I'm not saying "regular" progressive is the most inventive thing ever, I'm just saying it's better than McProg when it comes to just that. The times I've listened to Markus Schulz I could hardly tell the tracks apart, exactly the same thing over and over. With prog house I can do that atleast, even though it bores me at times. Again, my taste is not the best, it's just better. People who've listened to techno/house since the 80's probably have better taste than I, because of all the music they've heard. It's not much different from pop music. Cheesy melodies, catchy, all that...

Originally posted by SYSTEM-J Wow. So music with catchy melodies can't be underground, right? Like hard trance, and not that shitty Euro-trash stuff, I mean the UK material. Pop as fuck, huh? It's a ridiculous attitude. So music gets better the less accessible it is? Riiiight. A lot of the time music that is unknown is unknown for a good reason. McProg isn't pop music. There hasn't been a single McProg record in the Top 40 of any country to my knowledge. The emphasis of it is not to make money, it's to make music people will dance to. And it obviously works.

This reminds me of the star trek episode where the vulcans challenged the crew of deep space nine to a baseball game.
The captain of the vulcan team was quite conceited, and thought that vulcans were superior to humans in every way, and that only they were worthy of operating a starship.
As any good star trek dork would know, the vulcans are better than humans at everything, they are smarter, stronger, faster, more inventive. A vulcan child would think of the most fantastic human inventions as toys.
Vulcans dont use bias in making any of their decisions, they choose the best course of action by following advanced logic, whereas humans rely on instinct, and feelings in addition to a lower level logic system.
So the Vulcan baseball team challenged the deep space nine crew, and absolutely kicked their asses, the DS9 team scored maybe once or twice.
After the baseball game outside of the holosuite, the vulcan team was acting proud(without showing their emotions of course), hoping that the humans would be sad and agree that they were inferior.
But it didn't happen, the DS9 crew was laughing, they had fun playing baseball. They were proud of what they did together, despite the fact that the vulcans kicked their asses.
The vulcans went home, with their mission to piss off the DS9 crew and make them feel inferior unnacomplished. The captain of the vulcan team had that angry jealous look in his eye, and got even more pissed off when a human noticed, so he threw a tantrum and left.
This ASOT vs elite stuff kind of reminds me of vulcans vs the crew of DS9. The ASOT side being the humans, and the vulcans symbolising the elites. You "elites" can be as superior as you want, your music might be more inventive, it might be more original, it might pwn in comparison to the trance that comes out today.
But humans just dont give a fuck about those things, they have feelings and biases, they like having fun. Win all the contests, make all the comparisons that you want, the kids are still gonna go out and have a good time, and its not gonna be with your "superior" music because all we ever hear from you elites is complaining.
Humans have done many amazing things that the vulcans said were impossible.
It doesnt matter if something is forward thinking or not, lets just shut up, go out, and have some fun.
Oh for the love of all that is fucking holy, when will you get it into your head that people listen to a genre because they like the sound of it. So fuck if people like 'McProg'? Why do you feel so strongly about it that you have to upload post after post of your dull, boring shit hate campaign against a genre of music? Get a laugh you sad wee bastard.
