Federer vs Nalbandian in the final perhaps?
If Federer's playing, i'm not goin out....

I think it'll be a close match too. prolly 3 sets. sharapova will get one.

Clifsters being too tough for meauresmo.. i agree, though i still worry bc of her injuries. so far the pain hasnt' been bad for her... with her leg bandaged up, shes been holding at (though at a little cost to her mobility on court).

unless mauresmo can get her running around the court and locked into longer points, i still favourite clijsters for the win... though not an easy one.

Yea, i gotta somehow tape that the Fed finaly... theres no doubt that fed will destroy kiefer...

but, whut i hope happens is that Baghdatis pulls thru and beast Nalbandian (doesnt' seem likely thou to me... but then again, i was still surprised he knocked out roddick... and i dont even give as much credit as i used to).

Im really pulling that Baghdatis wins his match and I get to see him face off against Federer! THAT MATCH would be phenominal. I love Baghatis's game.

Watched a very exciting match between Kiefer and Grosjean. Not the whole thing mind you, just the ending. The racquet-throwing incident was one of the more unusual moments of tennis.

Federer is unstoppable. I SO enjoy watching him kick Roddick's ass everytime. Shows you how much better a well-rounded player always will be.

We share the EXACT same thinking.....

I REALLY like Baghdatis' game too, but he beat my fellow Croat Ljubicic
On top of that, Nalbandian has been on SERIOUS fire the last several months.....
He rhas a realistic chance of beating Federer

i would like Henin to win, i think she is the better.

and what about the guy from Chipre, the dude is a national heroe on the island after he beat the shit out of Rodick.! LOL...

i hate henin!!!

all belgians again?

davydenko gave federer all he can handle earlier today. now federer has no competition left. nalbandian is too weak for federer's style of play. i see baghdadis has been on the rise ever since he beat safin two years ago. he has a good power game but federer has this one hands down again.

Sorry, but I am SOOOOOOOOOO HAPPPPPYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I got a good portion of it on tape! Damn TSN starting their coverage of the match late! Balls!

Fuck, it was a long match (for women's). Maria just cant last as long as Justine. That girl is in phenominal shape. She reminds me of Agassi the way she makes player run aronud the court. Just fucking wears them down w/ her killer backhand and the incredible angles she can produce... which such power too!

JUSTINE FOR LIFE!

That was a solid-ass match.. I was impressed w/ Maria level of competition too... though I never really thought even for a second she was gonna be Henin. I stayed up to watch the whole thing! It was glorious!

Henin has the most stunning game out there! I've never enjoyed watching a player more in my life.

Personally (IMO) the 2nd best game out there to watch is Andre Agassi.

Ill give you that Sharapova looked HOT AS HELL all tanned the way she is, and sweating so much. God was she ever hot!!

I really liked the uper back portion of her outfit, but i HATE the rest of it.

I think thats one of the WORST outfits Maria's ever worn to an open! I dunno whut she was thinking! (Thought nothing could be worse than this year's Serena's outfit!)

Gotta give TONS of credit to Henin-Hardenne, she's fuckin awesome.
I'm not her biggest fan but have loads of respect for her....
She will beat Mauresmo , and win ANOTHER major - wjats that, 4?

Baghdatis ...... what can i say? UNBELIEVABLE comeback.
I stayed up ALL NIGHT watching this match and it was WELL worth it.
We're looking at a top 5 player in the not-too-distant future.
To beat Nalbandian who been on such a roll AFTER Roddick and Ljubicic
Thats 3 of the top 8 in FUCKIN 5 DAYS!!!!
To win it all would be a stretch since he NO experience in those situations, but it was a stretch just to make it here, so you NEVER KNOW.

FEDERER tonight vs Kiefer - WILL BE staying up again (3:30am)

Justine already has 4 titles. This would be her 5th open title!

Re: Baghdatis... TRULY UNBELIEVE performance! Much respect.

But Federer is going to stop him. I cant wait to see this final! I havent been this reved up for a men's final in prolly two years... the Aussie open 2003 actually, when Agassi took it!

Meauresmo is a smart player, but I think Justine's really gonna wear her down w/ cross-courts... Amelie's age is not gonna help her there. and she doesnt' handle the heat as well as Justine.... plus Mauresmo tends to choke (where justine never seems to), so even if Mauresmo gets match points, I think justine will battle back and turn things around. Justine (like Serena often is) is FANTASTIC at staving off (multiple) match points, and then going on to win matches!

^^ Lol at my last post and Justine ends up retiring early after the first point in the 2nd set due to bad stomach pain

Well, the 2007 tennis season is upon us! Justine Henin-Hardenne Rogers Federer entered it as No. 1s, but Maria Sharapova moved to the top of the women's seedings list at after Henin-Hardenne withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons

Hope that only makes her stronger for the Aussie Open, which begins Mondays Jan 15th and runs for the next fortnight.

Venus has already dropped out. (If only Serena would too) Nadal should hopefully be healed in time from his groin injury and ranked no. 2.

Two female players I'm keeping my eye on this year will be Svetlana Kuznetsova (a new favourite from 2006) and Jelena Jankovic (an OLD favourite since 2003... but until recently shed dropped entirely off the charts... great to see her making a return. This girl used to challenge Kournikova and Sharapova for amazing outfits too, IMO )

On the men's side, I'm hoping that Marco Baghdatis and James Blake fair well this year! These guys are two favourites of mine, love both their games. I'd kill to see Blake the Aussie Open. That'd be incredible (but unlikely).

It remains the same this yr as last, i am, and always will be
a Federer junkie. Legend. He, along with Michael Jordan, is my
favourite athlete EVER. Saying a lot since i'm a HUGE sports guy since 4ever....

Along with Roger, i'm obv full-force behind my countrymen,
#4 Ivan Ljubicic (coming off win in Doha, Qatar), and #9 Mario Ancic.
Call me crazy, but 2 Croats in the top 9 with only 4.5 million population is MADNESS.
Dont think either will win, cause Roger prolly will, but I'm def worried about Nadal.

He didnt play last yr due to injury, and 2 yrs ago he BARELY lost in 5 sets i believe in the quarters, when he was unseeded.
PLUS, i clearly rememeber the commentators (ALL of them: McEnroe & Gilbert in particular) always saying last yr how this hardcourt in Melbourne (being one of the slowest) best suits Nadal's game. And the rallies to tend to be pretty long, especially comparing to the US Open's hardcourt.....

I like ur choices of Blake and Baghdatis as well.
Lets NOT forget about Hewitt: #19 this yr, under the radar, and HEALTHY.

Women's, i'm in love with Sharapova - ya it may be retarded, but i cant help it.
BIG help Henin-Hardenne's out, cause she IS the best player imo.
Watched the entire Sony Erikkson Cup and she was incredible.
PLEASE GOD dont let Serena make it too far, i just cant handle watching her, and then always seeing here ridiculous dad in the stands. Sickening.

My pick is going to be #4 Kim Clijsters. Her last yr on tour, never won here, but always does well.
Along with her, i say Kuznetsova and Sharapova.

Posted by Kate Manus on Jan-12-2007 23:06:

I doubt she will win but I am hoping Martina Hingis makes it to the quarters again at least this year.. I got to see her play 3 matches last summer in Montreal, she is a big reason I got into tennis years ago.

and I hope Federer wins.. again.

Also... looking forward to May when I will be at the French Open!

Baghdatis vs Federer in the final last year was great! Marco played the match of his life but Roger was on his game... as usual.
I also hope Marco does well.

Yah, Ancic and Ljubicic have really been head-lining the top of the Top 10 bracket in the past year and a 1/2 especially! I must say I've never really paid them much mind though wile watching, but more and more I need to start too. They're making quite the impression on the men's side. We're seeing a lot of men's players really shinning at the moment, though... OF COURSE none (ever) more than Federer.
Im very interested myself to see how Nadal fares... that's gonna be the exciting part for me (since I now NEVER AGAIN have the chance to see my fav men's tennis player play, Andre Agassi. ) ... I hope he makes it into the at least the semis, or I'm gonna be very disappointed.

YES! To tell truth, in the past 2-3 years, I've pretty much written him off my radar PERIOD. Hasn't been poor poor, just not what I'd come to expect from Hewitt in her earlier days. He hasnt been meeting his own par, if you will. Same w/ Roddick. But I hope that's gonna stay turned around, bc he started to play impressively again with his new couch.

I also wanna see what Brad does w/ Andy Murray. His game is gonna get very fun to watch I think!

Ack! I wish I could have witnessed her performance. If we had STARCHOICE satellite (instead of Rogers Digital) we could order The Tennis Station and I'd be glued to it 24x7 I swear!

IMO as well (of course ) Henin IS the best damn women's player out there ... even MORE impressive when you consider her SMALL 5'2" (or was it 5'4"?) stature! Its not easy coming against player with massive height advantages over you in tennis.
I hope her health stays strong in 2007. Its really her only limiting factor these days. She's really learned her lesson from pushing herself too hard though. I dont expect any more large absences from her like what happen more than a year ago now.

quote:

PLEASE GOD dont let Serena make it too far, i just cant handle watching her, and then always seeing here ridiculous dad in the stands. Sickening.

I cant handle serena either. ugh. And her Dad! Just as bad. I mean, that banana incident at the US Open was it? CMON! Total coaching from the stands, its so blatant! Not impressed.

Id like to see Clijsters do better in general before she quits... that's be very fitting and nice. I hope Kuznetsova does really well. And as I said, Dokic.

High hopes for those two... I hope they can pull through for me... keep me on the edge of my seat the whole Open!

*jealous*

You were at the women's cup in Montreal this year!
I hope to see the women play at the Rogers Cup in Toronto this summer. I had to miss the men's this year, which really sucked.

And you're gonna be able to check out the French Open! God that would be a dream... well... Roland Garros and Wimbledon!

I hope Martina fares well... she started so well for being away for so long. Incredible how excellent she's doing... and she's only been back a year.... yet at the same time, I cant believe she's already been back a year! The season flies!

Yeah it's my third year at the Roger cup! The year before I saw Agassi and Nadal play in the final too. I watched quite a few matches last summer which was cool.. took the week off work.. hehe

As for the opens... definitely excited for Roland Garros! Tickets aren't even that expensive but they only go on sale in march. If I wasn't moving away I would try to go to the US open this year.

also.. Justine is 5'5 I think... but she is very lean and small compared to most other players.. her power is impressive!

Ive only caught the Rogers up once sadly. 2005 when the women were there.

But I got to watch Justine Henin-Hardenne at the practice courts, and the CLOSEST one to teh fence too. That was fucking INCREDIBLE... better than watching a match bc you were SO CLOSE. I didnt even realize it was for for a few mins. Really took a while to sink in... I was floored! I was NOT expecting that kinda reaction from myself when I saw her up close and personal for the first time. It shocked me. She singed one of those giant huge fuzzy tennis balls. It was a very great day for me.

I recall getting VERY drunk there too that day in the sun! It was so fucking glorious! Wonderful afternoon and evening.

Even at 5'5 shes still a very tiny, tiny tennis player... when many of the greats are so tall, pushing over 6 feet! I have so much respect for Justine! So much.

Nice! I saw Clijsters warm up on the practice courts last summer before she pulled out during her match with Stephanie Dubois from an injury. You are right... get to be so close! I was disappointed I had just missed Martina Hingis though

Also.. my boyfriend and I were also pretty loaded for most of the matches we saw.. especially when there was a 3 hour rain delay once... good times!

You'd love it! Nothing beats slamming down some drinks and watching the game on the huge screen at the Heineken bar partying with all the Swedish and Dutch fans, always a highlight each year

Hope Safin wins tonight
