u people always talk about the amazing songs that used to be produced with so much emotion, but u seem to forget that along with all those tracks that were amazing, were ALOT of crappy tracks that were released too. always gonna be the crappy ones and there's always gonna be the good ones. and the crappy will always outnumber the good. all i'm gonna say is, there are many tracks which still get me that "good ol' trance feeling"

lmao well said.

yes, there's money in trance.

probably, you cant earn too much selling your track,

the labels make the business hard at the moment, i can understand that too.

but what about djing? hmm...hmm...

or everyone plays for free?

didnt talk to you since ages, mate, anyway

ps.: Happy Birthday

I disagree that trance is dying. I think its just moving in different directions and therefore becoming almost a niche market rather than the general market it once was.

Trance, as it was around 2000-2002 still exists it just isn't as dominant as it once was. Artists like PUSH Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren still produce tracks as trancy and deep as those that were produced "back in the day".

However, the trance genre can now be split into more categories and includes melodic and euphoric trance, and (the more popular within the UK) hard trance.
This category is related to the hard house genre and is more prominant, particularly in the UK, with DJ's such as Adam sheridan and Eddie Halliwell coming to the forefront. It is also notable that PVD is playing a harder set now as evident from creamfields and Nature One etc.

Even recognised Trance DJ's such as Armin van Buuren displayed elements of Hard trance within there sets as shown by his set at Global Gathering with trackls like Katana's In Silence and Klinkenbergs Til ya drop being played beside tracks like White Room and Commmunication.

I also feel that perhaps the scene in America suffers from the lack of interest in dance music as I know it in the UK. ON a recent trip to NY i managed to see PVD playing on the rock the vote tour and also in the club SPirit for the after party and I felt the set he played could have been categorized as hard trance - which i enjoyed. However, this weekend ill be attending my monthly night at Inside Out, Glasgow where Eddie Halliwell and DJ Scot Project will be playing in the mian room (categorized as hard trance) and Matt Hardwick and Above & Beyond will also be playing in the same club. This means that both categories of trance will be availableto the clubber and everyone will be happy. Something that wasn't available in NY.

To sum up (and this post has gone on longer than i thought it would) I dont think Trance is dying, its actually getting bigger, its just being split into more categories.

Thumbs up last paragraph.

Ask any of the big name jocks and they'll tell you the best years for trance were 1995 and 1996... everything after that is just rehashing the same melodies but in the 'structure' or 'style' of the day.
Too bad that in the 'naughties' Producers have become lazier at these 'updates' and are just calling them 'Airwave 2003' 'Silence 2004' etc.etc. Making it blatantly obvious its not just melodies that are copied these days, but whole tracks themselves.
Everyone always makes a big fuss over trance c.1998&1999... get over the fact that 'epic' trance has lived its life and gone away again.

Start to listen to tracks from 1995 and 1996 and find there isn't that much difference to what we hear now... still top tracks out there, also a lot of shite ones/copycats... and then as now, a healthier prog scene to fall back on.

If anything.. rather than saying trance is dead, i'd like to say that 'epic' was just a fad. A pale immitation & reaction to deeper trance from the mid-nineties.

Final Thought: Look at Goa-Trance. That scene is self supporting and completely up its own arse, yet u don't see threads like this about it do u.

All genres of music change over time. The great thing about it is that you can pick and choose what you like and what you don't like. Just because a track is a few years old doesn't mean you cant enjoy it now.

I don't think the music is the problem. I think it is the people that believe they have to listen to new tracks every week to keep up with this self-perceived notion of superiority because they listen to a type of music that most of the masses don't bother listening to. If this "increased intelligence" over the general public makes you listen to trance then you are listening to it because you think it makes you special in some way. It is your own fault that you are listening to music that you do not like just to keep up with this facade.

In short: If you don't like it, don't listen and listen to stuff you do like even if it is old. EDM suffers from a newer is supposed to be better mentality but that is how DJs make a living, by playing new tunes. Personally I enjoy sets with new songs, old songs, and recently old songs mixed together to create a nice piece of art.

first of all, theres too much prog i think, and more and more coming out by the day, and no more melodic emotional trance? what happened? and dont tell me "it's gotten old and cheesy"
if i put on a track for you, say Rank 1 - Airwave for example, you wont go "o that sucks, that style is old and shitty"
garunteed ull love it! atleast i know i always will
anyways, where are all the melodic trance producers gone to? dont let the trance die so soon, we only been alive for 10 years or so, its too soon ....

what to do?

You go here and download his weekly set. If this doesn't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will.

don't be sad little one - good trance is always around, you just have to look for it!

BTW this weeks set is just mindblowing!!! if you don't download it you'll miss out on one of the best sets in a long time!

The problem with trance these days is exactly whats been said. It is just a bunch of shit thrown together that anyone could do if they mastered the music programs like fruity loops, reason, logic, cubase, and so on. Just like hip hop music today is just a bunch of easy beats thrown out...talking about the same shit; trance is just a bunch synths thrown together in any fashion as long as its a catchy pattern; in other words, no creativity needed. That's what's making all these new trance songs all sound the same.

Posted by dj_lane on Jan-28-2005 05:14:

trance isnt dead, it will return with the new generation of producers go back to making it, 'stead of the current proggressive sound.

If trance is really dead, then swamper should just close down TA then

Posted by behr on Jan-28-2005 10:49:

If there is no money to make, I doubt any professional will produce
trance. You may say that's fine, but I really do not see trance can
survive underground.

please... i'd like to see you easily "master" these music programs and throw some shit together. and after you record that shit, send it over to me and i'll tell you what i think of it. better yet take a couple years and then send me a clip.. i'll still probably be shaking my head.

imo trance (i mean the old melodic) hasn't died and still maintains a respectable amount of fans the problem is the edm scene including trance has evolved and widened its fanbase so nowadays alot of people like going to parties and sets but aren't into trance....hence prog. and hard trance appeared as they seem to please more people on the dancefloor..

Posted by Jake Conlon on Jan-28-2005 23:31:

yes i totally agree trance is dying and will be dead by next week!!!
