fukin elle ! this is sick. The design is brilliant :P

Posted by infinity HiGH on Jan-28-2005 21:32:

...and people bitch that Toronto's scene is lacking? With clubs like this, Boa, System, Guv and Co-Zo, I think this scene is pretty pumpin

...so RJ, is Crobar still the nicest club you've ever seen? Cause honestly, Crobar would have to be insanely well designed to top this. WOW

Hopefully they put in as much effort into their parties as they do into the presentation

Doubt it. Republik is run by music sound and light enthusiasts. The people behind it have a long history of being not just businessmen but partiers as well. THAT will make a huge difference.

Hooly shit, that club looks amazing!! Toronto is pimpin'!

Posted by Sexyboy79 on Jan-30-2005 01:40:

So will this be a club were everyone is drinking alchol or bottled water if you know what i mean? What time will it stay open till?

Posted by Sean Cassidy on Jan-30-2005 06:38:

Love is in the air republik

I agree with the look of the space!

I have been hearing about this place - looks are killer. Another venue to showcase talent is always a good thing - competition is good for all of us clubbers.

Lets hope that with this space - everyone wins - the patrons - the owners - the scene.

Keeping at a certain level is always the most difficult task - I hope everyone gives it a chance. Here's hoping that some of the money made goes to upkeep and mantainence.

When you drive your car to montreal and back every weekend - and never change the oil - sumthin's gotta give. Upkeep is essential - plus when you command a respectful appearance - you do have people take notice and act accordingly.

Except the messies.......

This wont be an issue. I will be making sure the lighting is maintained as they are hiring me full time for this job. Also, I already know of plans to change things up a bit in the future already! This is not going to be some half assed club let me assure you.

1) there is too much money invested for them to let this happen
2) the light and sound are the pride and joy of the owners (one of them owns a light and sound company)
3) Most of the people who run the place have a long history of being part of the scene. They know exactly what clubbers want.

I am glad to hear that - staff support and enthusiasm go a long way in making a club successful. I am excitited about Republik and what they are bringing to the scene. One thing i have noticed about the way people are here though - is that they are fickle. I hope opening night goes smoothly - no massive cues of people waiting around to get in and no one knowing why (especially if -40 outside). Knowledgeable/courteous staff - who are aware of where the washrooms are - smoking area/s are (these questions will be asked). In the last 3 years I have gone to a couple of clubs where on opening night - there was a lack of co-ordination and rude or uninformed staff. People were pissed and verbally DESTROYED those places - and all the hard work and effort the owners invested - ruined. Which I think is a shame. People need to relax. We need diversity/options in the club scene. If you wanna dance in a raw space - the incarnations over the years at 380 College fit that need. Otherwise if it was so easy to make the "perfect" club there would be no need to open any more becasue they would all be PERFECT?? la la land.....

This is not the Guv nor is it System or any other club here in TO, It is Republik and I hope it aspires to be everything it can and should be - and finds itself to be a viable option for a good weekend out. Good DJs, good sound, good club and good crowd = a great night out. To have all of these happen at once - a miracle (everyone has something to say) - but I am looking forward to their 5 year anniversary party.

And until the big box superclubs come and standardize everything - we must enjoy the individualism that each club/bar brings to the scene.

Good luck Republik - I will be there!

I say it's about time some EDM club focused on the lighting! Laser and Strobe lights are awesome and all, but I for one LOVE the futuristic sound of EDM and think the club should match the ambience set by the music.

All very true and I couldn't agree with you more. When REPUBLIK has been brought up here and there in convos people have had nothing but good things to say about this place and it's HUGE potential so good luck to all involved!

Understood it is only the small room, and that is not going to stop me from checking out the club. But that is my opinion of the lighting shown in those pictures.
