Office/Retail Clerks and TTC drivers with bad attitude, giving Poor customer service.
The way I see it...if you've agreed to work in a job you hate then you shouldn't dish out attitude...especially not if someone comes in to order or purchase something.
Just smile and do what your paid to do.

Also...the ppl who condone this attitude. Why? How socially irresponsible to let this go...this is a poor image that our tourists see.

I don't know if this would be an actual pet peeve, but this is one of the worst things I have to deal with every day at work.

The men's restrooms only have ONE toilet. And 2 urinals.

If you gotta go #2 and you go in and someone's in there, you gotta walk (or run) to the other bathrooms and hope no one's in there!

Holy FUK, I almost forgot.
People who walk on grass rather than the sidewalk.

Yes, they are free by law to express themselves and we are free to think they are fucktard posers for expressing themselves in that particular way. Bad poser whistling goes under the same general category as bad B.O. - we learn to live with it, but that's about the best thing we can say.

What's your hangup on whistles anyway, were you once (and perhaps still are) a hardcore off-rhythm whistle doofus?

No, we get it just fine. What YOU don't get is that the whistle died with the rave in the year 2000. Sure, they can take their whistles to the Destiny parties and the tiny underground raves if they really want to, but not to System or the Guvernment or the Docks or Boa. Those aren't raves, those are clubs. Whistles are out of place there.

Plus, the whistle has more than mere symbolic significance. It was actually supposed to be blown rhythmically to the set, not spastically and out of context (which is what usually happens these days).

Maybe whistles USED to be a sign of respect to the DJ, but now they are mostly a sign of posers who are trying to be cool by acting like a cheap stereotype of the old-school "raver". They're more of a sign of disrespect now, both to the DJ and the crowd.

thank you....u said exactely what i would have

whistles are my biggest pet peeve...i can't tell how many times i have "settled" into a place at a club, only to have a whistle person show up right behind me, essentially ruining the music for me. the noise is so highpitched it overwhelms anything else i hear. any and every time i have encountered this majority of those around me agree that it negative aspect...if you insist on blowing the whistle, you should be out of a crowd so you're not blowing the damned thing in someones ear...i can understand on how later listening to live sets that the whistle might make you feel like "you're there" but when you are the person whose eardrums are being split by the noise due to the inconsiderate nature of the blower, then they SUCK
the benefits on one person (the blower) definitely do not outweigh those of the group (everyone else nearby)

jayx1 just in case u haven't noticed headonism doesn't work...and neither does your argument

Ooookay, now that's a whole can of worms right there... call it a hunch but I bet you're one of those people who refuses to leave voicemail messages aren't you?

I hate it when people don't return calls, but as for not answering phones, did it ever occur to you that they might be busy, away from their phone, or just have more important things to deal with?

Everybody who uses phones always seems to think that while they are dialing, the world revolves around them and that whoever gets the ring should just automatically drop whatever they're doing and answer it. And then they leave dumbass messages like "I KNOW YOU'RE THERE, WHY AREN'T YOU ANSWERING YOUR PHONE" ... Learn some PATIENCE, FFS! And if it's really important then leave a MESSAGE so I KNOW that it's important!

Posted by dance2dabeat on Feb-03-2005 03:24:

I don't think to answer my cell when I'm having good company. I think it is rude to talk on the phone when u're chilling with someone. If it's important....leave a message...I'll call u back!

My Petpeeves: (not in any order)

1.) Bosses/managers who have power trips.

2.) People who gossip.

3.) Girls who are haters towards other girls.

4.) People who have to wear names like Gucci or Armani to feel cool. (I used to be surrounded by tons of them in LA/Hollywood)

5.) Girls who spend $800 on a Loui Vuitton purse, when they can't even afford their cell phone bills.

RE: Phones & Cell Phones

I also hate it when people don't want to take the hint that you can't come to the phone right now. Like when people call me repetedly. I'm not picking up the phone for a reason. I heard you when you called the first time.

I find it very disrespectful when people answer their cell phones (unless to say "I'll call you back in a minute", or unless it's important) when in the company of others. Especially when you're in the middle of a conversation, their phone rings, they pick it up, completely forget about you and start up a conversation with the person calling. That happened to me just a few days ago.

Furthermore, I also find it extremely rude when you're out for dinner and someone doesn't turn their cell phone off. If I make the effort to go out to dinner with someone, I turn my cellphone off. I went out to dinner with that person (people) so I could talk to them, not have them sit around while I talk to someone else on the cell phone.

Some people seem to be completely oblivious to cell phone ettiquite.

I definately agree with this one. Some TTC drivers have a really bad attitude. When it's 8.00am on a monday morning, I don't need smart ass remarks.

As a flip side of the retail job pet peeve, one of my pet peeves are people who think they can abuse people in retail jobs just because "they're the customer". Another reason why people are encouraged to do this is because usually the employees they are abusing are teenagers who think they have to take the abuse. I know, because I was one of them.

Don't take your daily stresses out on the kid behind the counter because he forgot to put sugar in your coffee. I'm sure we've all see some of the unbelieveable things that some customers do to workers in the fast food industry when a mistake is made. I've had to restrain myself a few times watching certain incidents.

This poor kid is standing there taking abuse because he needs to earn this money. He's afraid that if he stands up for himself, he'd lose his job. You think anyone would be working at McDonald's if they didn't REALLY need the money?

(For the record, I never worked at McDonald's, but I worked at an auto parts desk where every single day I was being yelled at by mechanics. I was only 16 years old and I never stood up for myself because I was made to believe part of my job was to take abuse.(

To be fair, sometimes people just forget to turn their cell phones off. But if that happens to me and I get a call when I'm in the company of others, I'll either hit the ignore button or tell them I'll call them back. Even if I'm alone though, does not mean I have to answer the phone. Maybe I'm trying to get some work done, or I'm trying to make plans in a hurry, and the last thing I want is some birdbrain calling just to talk about something stupid their professor/boss said.

My sister will call someone up and just launch right into some lengthy conversation without the standard "are you busy" or "do you have a few minutes". And I do mean lengthy, these things easily last over an hour and she'll ignore obvious hints that you're trying to cut her off. I don't know about you guys, but when I'm calling someone up, I start off with the assumption that they might be in the middle of something more important and work from there.

I think it's kind of a "guy thing" - most guys tend to view phone calls as being for the express purpose of making plans, and chit-chat is best conducted in person (or sometimes online, in this generation). Maybe in some cases phones are good for LIMITED conversation (like calling a girl to make sure she got home okay, or something). But it bothers many of us when we get a call from someone who apparently believes that we've got nothing better to do with our time than yack (or rather, listen to *them* yack) on the phone. MAYBE we are bored and would like to talk shit for an hour, but maybe we aren't, so it's probably better to ask us and find out before assuming.
