Btw, how about Carl Cox, he's pretty big, maybe not millionare, but the guy is pretty famous, has also been in the DJ Mag list #1 twice in a row just like Oakie...

Posted by LucasYork on Feb-19-2005 03:03:

Tiesto may of gotten 100k for a massive gig....

I know some US house dj's get around 25-40k... house dj's seem to pull bigger crowds in general so therefore more pay.

Gig fees vary anyway from country to country and the day of the week and different prices for diff countries.

most of them are very weathly, even if they dont make 1 million a yr, they have a bloody good lifestyle!!

10 hrs a week work, travel around the world, treated like a royal in most cases and big $$$. why the hell would u complain?

most peoples knowledge here seems to extend to jay-z, eminem and ja rule. ;/

Good music is hard to find, especialy when it comes to EDM so one would assume that someone would if not like at least respect another genre where the majority of it's better artists and songs remain underground and lesser known.

Posted by dannyc on Feb-19-2005 13:54:

what are you talking about fucking underground. the american charts are just hip-hop and rock, thats why theres no room for any EDM, those industries are just totally ignorant to the scene.

talentless producers i'm referring to are these guys that are in the billboard charts etc, where there tracks are no more than a clap a snare and a 2 piece melody. i'm sure there is alot of good stuff out-there too.

p.s. carl cox is defo a millionaire, blank & jones maybe also. how would westbam make millions of the love parade if its a free political parade, would he own the rights or something??

It sounds weird but Johan Gielen is one of the cheapest 'bigger names'. He asks around 800 euros for a hour gig. He became loaded by selling and breeding Koi-fish. He has the best Koi-fish in the world. Duncan Stutterheim & Sander Groet (from ID&T) are behind parties like Trance Energy, Gielen hasn't got anything to do with it.

Thats funny cause we where looking into booking Johan Gielen for a UK gig and where charged 1500 + BF + Flights and a 4 Star hotel. Bit expensive for a small club.

Will

yeah he's been to some small venues near where i live where the cover was only 10$ so i doubt he made 10k for those but it wouldn't surprise me if he made buku bucks at larger places, he is quite popular here.

Heh, well...I should have mention that that was the deal 2 years ago. So I guess you just got me right there I got a little bit 'owned'.

Dutch clubs can't even pay Tiesto anymore, nowadays, that's why he never is spinning in Holland. Because of his ridiculous fee. That's a shame, kinda, because in the early days you'd have the Gouryella/Black Hole-nights with all the artists from Black Hole (Well, you've got them still but without Tiesto.) and Tiesto's solo-tour where he crossed the country with 8 hour gigs at clubs.

Those days are gone for good....

Well he also doesnt have anything to accomplish anymore in Holland. He is done everything, played every club and venue. Proberly he will be back for Dance Valley and or Mysteryland

Posted by basvh on Feb-19-2005 21:32:

ow yeah, I don't believe that most of the DJ's mentioned here are millionares.

A lot of money goes to Managers, booking agents also don't forget you have to pay a lot of taxes.

Well, it seems that Chicane, altough not a millionaire himself, can afford a couple of nice cars:

quote:
Amiable, laid-back and passionate about music, Nick's demeanour is far more diamond geezer than diamond encrusted pop star. In fact the only thing about Nick that clearly points towards such a lifestyle is his collection of sports cars - his garage boasts an Audi RS4, both monstrously powerful and extremely rare, as well as a Ferrari 355 which can speed comfortably off into the distance nearly 200 mph.

Ory please dont take Orange Project as a reflection on English people here. Some of us do have some intelligence.

What the fuck do american charts have to do with it? Like I said turn of your radio, quality music has nothing to do with the radio which is likely why EDM isn't on there. No one is debating that most of the stuff on the radio is shitty, my point is that just because what you heard of a genre is shit doesn't make it shit, especialy when it's garbage you've heard on the radio.

The people who say "rap sucks just look at 50 cent and ja rule" are the ignorant people. The only way you would have anything close to an argument against rap based on actual knowledge instead of half asses assumptions would be telling me that you don't enjoy artists like Gangstarr or Big L or Jedi Mind Tricks, etc.

Not trance but:

The estate of Michael Cretu and his wife (who does some of the vocals) from Enigma. Located in Ibiza, Spain.

If I remember correctly then the most ever fee for one night was for Carl Cox for NYE gig in 99-00 and it was 200K ????

Read it few months ago on a similar discussion here on TA. Can't seem to locate the original post.

Making over 1million pure profit per year just dj'ing - I think that this has or could be acomplished by the currently best selling names.

But for dj's and producers who are millionares... the list could be quite long actually. Many have their own labels, booking agencies, and you never know what 'other' business they are involved in. Maybe some gamble, or speculate on the stock market? You never know :P

Posted by Sthlm_ on Feb-27-2005 02:58:

Sander K & Way Out West otherwise whats the fuckin point???

Yea but that's not the only way it works - generally if the entrance fee is cheap for a big name DJ (~$10ish), the DJ not only takes that, but a cut of the bar profits which are huuuuge!

One DJ which hasn't been mentioned yet is Timo Maas? Wasn't it around 2000/2001 that he played around 270 in one year? I remember reading that in a magazine at the time!
