Listened to CD 2 like 3 times already! Incredible start with Thin Air by DeSantis. Till track 5, almost all tracks are a bit abstract, kinda trancy. Then it goes ibiza-house with Latin Lover (amazing tune!) and finally electro-house with a bit of techno (bassline in Stalkers Groove is unique!) Love the final track Hot on the Heels of Love. It's harsh to clasify Howell's style: AMAZING though. Both discs are 9/10

It's a fu**ing mistake from Amazon, i ordered it, it's the same tracklist as the normal version. The only difference is the long cover and the booklet. So now i have it two times.

Wasn't really feeling this GU...

I just listened to this whole cd and I have to admit, it's really really boring.

I hit the skip button so many times, half the tracks were so monotonous I wanted to bash my head into my dashboard.

I understand what Howells was trying to do with this album, but it just didn't flow. To me it sounded like he took alot of his favorite and rare records and put them on a CD, but there is no FLOW.

I guess it just isn't my style. My favourite Global Underground was Sasha's San Fransisco one.

Danny went to deep, needed more energy.

The tracks were great but some tracks were too large.Yes, it didn't flow.

Wow. I guess some people just don't like the funk. I'd have to say this is one of the BEST Gu's maybe the best, I love it.

Posted by webbie on May-23-2005 21:14:

This is easily one of the best GU's i have ever heard, its so beautiful, rockin and cool at the same time that it just blows my mind.

What, exactly didn't flow? This compilation is my type of house music and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. After Lavelle's atrocious Romania effort and a somewhat-weak release by Deep Dish, GU027 puts revival back into the series as far as I'm concerned and its nice to see GU get into the deep/tech house and minimal techno genres. Hell, over the last year I have been extremely let down by the amount of shit being released, gobbled up, and whored that only a few new tracks have sparked my interest. Howells's mixes have really excited me it feels nice to be able to enjoy some newer material again. If this is boring to anybody, I'm sorry, but you are listening to the wrong music, so go back to whatever EDM you like and leave the groove and soul for those who can appreciate it. Hopefully Nick Warren can turn out a nice set for the next GU.

I never said I didn't like funky groovey house either. Alot of the tracks on CD1, for the most part, were extremely repetitive. CD2 had some highlights with Blood Money and Crying Hero, but that was about all that stood out too me. I can say one thing though, the whole comp was alot better at night then it was in the morning, seemed to be more sinister and evil I guess.

In the end, after a second listen, it wasn't as bad as I said it was, but I'm sure Warren's Shanghai compilation will blow this one away.

So does anyone know what "Light Shine" is getting a release? It's one of my faves off this mix, and I'd love to add it to my collection.

Yeah that song is amazing

these cds have grown on me alot over the past weeks even though i liked them at first listen.
Gave a solid listen through on a recent plane trip, very smooth (both cds) and great unique sound.

Gotta love the techy house with a dash of funk that Danny and Desyn have been pushing.

5/10

Yes I'm a wee bit late in hearing this compilation, but I must say this is overrated. In a nutshell cd 1 > cd2. Cd 1 is more funkier and has a more 70's dance feel to it, but not all tracks were like that. Here are the only tracks I liked from cd 1:

1. Subway - Thermal
4. Ame - Shiro
7. Tantra - Hills Of Katmandu
8. DJ Nique - Mission TF017
Tracks 1 and 4 were the more progressive tracks out of that cd while 7 and 8 were the more edgier and funkier from that pile.

Cd 2 was disgusting except for the last track. I absolutely loved the mixture of progressive housey trance rolled up into one. 'Hot On The Heels of Love' is definitely the best piece of progressive music I've heard in a while.

Had it not been for the stellar mixing I probably would have gave this mix compilation a 2 or a 3 at best.

zomg a negative danny howells review! no waiiiiiiiii

anyway, on the other side of the spectrum... i absolutely love this CD... this was probably one of the 'gateway' CDs i picked up that made my musical tastes in EDM expand greatly. but i do agree with you on one thing though, CD 1 > CD2.. definitely

Posted by tracid on Feb-01-2007 21:01:

one of the best mix I've never heard.
