This is SOOOOOO right....
I was gonna say sumthing about the Boa comment, but i saw
ur post first Kev....
Boa has been a HUGE hit imho!
They've brought all sorts of talent in....
maybe just talent he's unaware of.

I'm an optimist, and i'm hoping for the best from Republik.
Good luck, and i'll be waiting on JOOF

haha a no brainer if you ask me. Karim when did you become Mr. Tranceman, hilarious.

Lol, actually I got into trance way back when, oakey's tranceport, etc. I only got into prog thanks to Transport 4. There was no turning back until I went to see Ferry Corsten with a bunch of friends, and had one of the best times. My friends here at mac get bored by prog fodder.

Don't get me wrong, I still love a good progressive house and breaks party.

Anyway, when you coming back? The party just ain't the same without you man.

Karim

I would definitely consider playing Republik! Unlike so many other DJs in this city I'm actually "allowed" to play there. If someone from Republik is interested I can be reached at [email protected]

As far as Boa goes. (This is a thread about Republik, but hopefully I'm not being too rude addressing the Boa comments)

Boa has done extremely well for one year. Nobody thought they could make it work, including myself when they first opened. But there's this underlying passion and commitment to the music that will take them a LONG LONG way.

The reality of this city is that conglomerate of Guvernment/System/Film/Comfort Zone works VERY VERY hard to keep DJ agencies exclusive to themselves. And rightfully so, this is a cut-throat business. Unless we at Boa are willing to offer ridiculous and unreasonable sums of money, the agencies that rep the big DJs are sticking with The Conglomerate as they offer security for the future. But we're making inroads slowly. Boa offers a product and an environment for DJs that surpasses everything else in this city in my opinion. All you hear anywhere in the world now is Boa, Boa, Boa. Don't worry the agencies are very aware of Boa's growth. It's just a matter of time.

If Republik sticks it out and works hard there's no reason why they can't do the same.

Can someone please clarify...

It seems that Fridays and early Saturday nights will be top 40/RnB type nights w/ dress codes in effect, etc.; but later Saturday nights/Sunday mornings (after 2:00 am) "the celebrations continue early into the morning..." as it states on the Republik's website?

So (for example) if Fleming is in town, will it be a full trance night, or will the games begin once all the skids leave around 2:00 am?

RNB will be during drinking hours in Vision (the small room).

The main room will never have RNB and hip hop. The main room will have house until 2 and harder stuff afterwards.

Basically the dress code will be no thug wear. So if you look like snoop dog you are SOL!

no hats, runners, sports gear

totally man.. that's just ridiculous... there is no need for rules like that.. as long as you don't look like a sketchpad, it shouldn't really matter... you should be there for the music... well at least that's what i go for

Torontonians need to support their locals more. Without them there is no scene and no out of town djs.

I guess the only way to find out is confirmation from management. But that is the way i understand it to be.

why the heck are you guys freaking out about the running shoes?

this club is made from suggestions that we all made for it. You all know there is a difference between being comfortable and looking like a bum so there is no reason for all of you to start freaking out about the dress code until you actually get turned away at the door.

comfortable = you get in. looking like a bum or thug = you don't.

don't dress like a bum.

my diesels or whatever runners i have are nice enough to wear out and so are all of yours.

I support local djs. i just dont care for anyone on that residents lineup which is why you wont see me there unless theres a guest dj that im into.

One hopes this is the case... i never dress like a bum for the clubs... i hope i meet the inspection code standard! 7

Posted by starsearcher on Mar-11-2005 14:19:

If the club looks hype and amazing, and all the people inside look sketchy and like they just rolled off the street then it doesn't look right...I've got nothing against some kind of a code personally...nothing rediculous obviously but i don't tink there's anything wrong with dressing nice for a night out ...ESPECIALLY when it's such a sweet ass looking joint!
