Now, Jamie, the question becomes:

If you had to walk across a hot desert to get the world's most ridiculous coke, would you be stingy with it or would you cut that shit up!?!

Posted by Slylee on Mar-15-2005 16:07:

hahahah

i'd share. i share everything...even my coke bag if someone doesn't have any and wants a few bumps. stingy is not in my vocabulary...it's not in my nature to be like that.

Posted by UWM on Mar-15-2005 16:09:

Is there one negative thing you can say about yourself?

Posted by Slylee on Mar-15-2005 16:11:

hmm, i can't think of anything negative to say about myself right now, but if i do, i'll let you know

can i use that line when i'm asked in an interview to about a weakness of mine?

I am all to familiar with the stingy DJ attitude, there are a lot of kids here who put stickers on top of all the records they spin so that nobody else can find out what tracks they are.

The poor househeads are almost without music because the DJ's have hoarded the music so much. Seriously it is almost impossible to be in the know about house in these parts without being a DJ, all the house kids either spin or get cheesy ministry of sound CD crap.

I hate that there are whole styles of music that are only accesible by DJ's. I think the selfish holding of good music is part of the reason behind the huge amount of bad music in circulation.

In their defense, dj's with unique sounds tend to get copied when they share their info, almost to the point where someone will copy an entire set and pawn it off as their own work.

now lemme grab some of them drugs off u slylee

fuck off, i paid a lot of money for this shit.

Hmm, I've never heard of that phenomena. Doesn't happen much here, I guess.

Jeeeeeeeeez you're obsessive!

I think everyone is a smidgeon too upset over an internet forum. Calm down and eat a cookie.

I've never covered my records or withheld a title from someone on a track. I don't see the need to. I'm more into sharing the music that I love with other people.

Yeah that's just lame.

When DJ's do this it ruins the 'discovered' musician's chances for ever being noticed and it almost hordes the tunes to a specific few who have access to the info. Without the consumer the music dies, it shouldn't be used as a tool for DJ stardom, it should be given to everyone so that they can all enjoy its value.

I'm not saying you're doing this though floorfiller.

I think we all come here and bring a different set of tunes and styles with us. Some of us appear better at finding stuff than others, some kids just don't know how to do the leg work to find music. I wouldn't have my abilities to find music(however limited they may be) if I hadn't learned them from reading the posts here.

If I started all over again with no clue, I don't think I would be able to come here and learn how to do that in this age. I think that the valuable information that was here before has been largely displaced by arguing and bitching.

I'm not saying that those who are in the know have to share every one of their finds with the horde of newbies who will likely not appreciate the effort, but I think we could all do better than what we are doing now. It isn't hard to come up with some useful information that is missing in our discussions and posting it once a month, imagine if 10 kids posted useful infromation on a monthly basis, so many kids would be more informed, so many retards would become less retarded.

now that is a way of thinking that i will never be able to relate to...being stingy with tunes and info just because you worked really hard to find that information or song... lol christ, i don't care if i had to walk across a hot desert to get a great tune or some artist info...i'd gladly share it with anyone who asked. that's just me though. i'm always willing to drop everything and help someone out. i never understood why people actually get offended if you go in a chatroom and say, "hey guys, does anyone know when this track is getting released?" without candy coating it first. it's funny to watch everyone get annnoyed because you didn't butter them up first before asking. i actually get annoyed when people do that to me in person...like call me up and start asking me all these dumb "small talk" questions, followed by a, "oh by the way, would you mind if..." just fucking get to the point and ask me, i don't give a shit.

u guys need to get your heads out of your cyber asses.

hehehehe...i was sure something like this was gonna come up

and that's fine...i don't care if people think i'm an asshole hahah. you don't have to suck up to me, that's not what its about. i just think that if you're one of the people that stops by the site every six months just to get a couple of track reccomendations to go download...i don't really feel like helping you out. and its not like people can't find them on their own. i mean i find all my stuff on online record store samples...everyone is just as capable of doing the same thing, but they don't because its easier to wait for others to do all the work for them. if we're gonna talk about music...lets talk about it.

i dunno maybe i'm being a little selfish, but that's fine with me. and its not like people are asking me personally "oh man...what's that tune" because something like that i'm gonna give the name. i'm just done offering up music suggestions in those types of threads. maybe its because i'm an aspiring dj and literally your record crate distinguishes you from the pack...but i dunno...that's just how i feel about it these days. i mean i'm not gonna give change to the bum on the street either so maybe i'm just not a compassionate person hehehe...

Posted by Slylee on Mar-15-2005 18:33:

no, you're not. and i like you a little bit less now because of it.

Posted by igottaknow on Mar-15-2005 18:35:

there are so many good points being made i don't know who to side with?

hehehe...well that's alright...we all have things others don't like about us. i mean...i don't like that you guys are all druggies...but hey...i still like you all hahah

ps. just so you know slylee...i'll always give you track suggestions haha

Posted by UWM on Mar-15-2005 18:46:

You're such a cheese-dick.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Mar-15-2005 19:00:

well, from the things I've read today I don't think you are causing these problems, I've seen a bunch of places where you have given people recomendations and helped kids get the tunes they want.

Aspiring DJ's do need to create a unique playlist and that gets hard if you paste the thing in forums, but a few pointers in the right direction never hurt anybody either.

Anyway, I'm gonna try harder to post some things that I am whining about not seeing enough of, maybe some more effort from me would help my cause a bit.

"if we're gonna talk about music...lets talk about it"

woot

I think being part of the elite is cool...I mean, if u deserve it then it kicks ass!

Posted by igottaknow on Mar-15-2005 19:37:

If we didn't have CORe or noobs this board would cease to exist. We all play an important role in a meaningless intraweb forum.

By stateing that Newbies and Elitists are bad you are taking a position that because you are neither of these you are in some form superior to both of these groups. This would make you elite in some form (morally, ethically, whateveryoulikeally). If this is true then you are in fact and Elitist and therefore are bad. Your statement can therefore not be correct as it employees self contradictory logic.

I content that newbies and elitists are neither good nor bad objectly and no such judgement should be made of them

hahaha...no you're the only TA that has heard that i think hahaha

but seriously...its famous...you have no idea

Posted by Slylee on Mar-15-2005 20:48:

well a lot of people have extremely busy lives and don't have time to really sit on the computer and do research and try to find info on DJ's and tunes and stuff, so we figure, "hey, maybe one of these guys will know" so we go in a chatroom or a forum and ask, and then all those guys are like, "pshh, i'm not giving up all the information i worked my ass of getting, bla bla bla"

whenever i get excited about a song i've discovered (or a song that was sent to me, i should say...i rarely discover songs! haha) i'm always so excited to share it, i just start sending it to whoever whill accept it because i want to see if they love it as much as i do. i know this sounds cheesy and cliche' but i really am all about the music. i just want everyone to love it and appreciate it the same way i do.
