I suspect the times you may have been disappointed is because he was playing for the crowd at the moment and maybe you just werent feeling it since you expected something else? I dont know.

Its funny you mentioned Greg Gow because i was just discussing what a good techno dj he is with a good friend of mine.

True dat...sometimes I do expect something else...something that will impress me.
But you see the trick to being a popular dj (which is no different than becoming a top 40 hit) is that you play for any crowd and not just a specific type.
IMO a true artist creates and sticks to his own style....and doesn't mimic others. But then, he is a resident Guv dj...and he does it well.

As for Greg... I agree with you. Da man has talent. And I was even more impressed when he pulled out an old old old lp on a boat cruise I was at. If he can lay that one down and have ppl saying wow...then that impresses me.

Peace

Hey TrickdaddEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEee

Guy keep you can keep your so called Pics. I dont need to take peoples pics to try meet them. And furthermore maybe you should build a real website not one with a home page that links to a public photo share and forum LOL. Give me a call sometime I'll set you up!!!

lolol!

So Shaya007...you started it and now your adding more flames... not very kewl in my eyes

And I had such respect for your opinions too

Everyone is entitled to disagree with an opinion...but STFU is not an opinion...it is an unnecessary order and statement....and a very disrespectful one...with the exception that you know the person on a personal level and will FU right back as a j/k

Come on... show some maturity here and agree to disagree Shaya007 (I know we've only briefly met once and you prolly don't even remember me...but I'd like to meet you again without remembering this thread)

All I know is that I did NOT say anything other that my suprise that MO was leading the Poll. I Never said he was a bad DJ in fact I like him and I know him plus I used to work in the industry with him but not directly.

He has come a long was from slugging records around to be a house DJ in the biggest club in the city.

I just voiced my opinion and people got to tell me basically to SHUT UP and keep my opinion to myself?

The last time I checked this was a public open forum. Correct me if I am wrong!

And futhermore, shaya or whatever your name is when you asked for help a while ago when you had problems with your website I offered to help you and not even a "thank-you" or "F**k off I got it under control"

Not cool!

Thats the thing... I know what mark plays when he's playing his exact style. Sometimes he has to play to the crowd and when it's a trance dj guest his style is much different from when its say Eric Morillo. There are times mark plays stuff i dont like too (and for that matter, stuff he doesnt like) but thats what happens when you have 9 hours and 4000 people to please. I dont judge DJs soley on the tunes that are played. Yes that plays a huge part in it but im more about technique and programming when it comes to judging. For example im not the biggest fan of uplifting trance but i can certainly tell a good trance dj from a bad one.

You may call crowd pleasing "selling out" or "not having a unique style" but some DJs forget that the reason they are there is to please the crowd beyong pleasing themselves. If there is anything i hate the most it's a DJ who just comes in and plays his preplanned set and leaves without a hint of evidence of reading the crowd. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Ive worked with mark and seen some of the crowds he has had to deal with and watched him read the crowd and test a few things to get them going. Sometimes what works with the crowd is stuff that makes me roll my eyes. Other times he bangs out the best sets ever. 98% of the time though no matter what he plays its played with skill and technique and ive seen the toughest crowds go from lacklustre to apeshit when hes been playing. And that to me is what makes a good dj.

PS: i know Greg Gow's cousin really well and shes a damn fine hottie...... Just thought i should add that LOL

Two things wrong with this thread.

#1 - The title.... should be your FAVOURITE DJ since many of the Toronto and area elite aren't even listed.

#2 - Needs more good stories surrounding those nights said DJ kicked yo ass.

this thread seem to give credence to the cliche/saying

"familiarity breeds contempt"

not even 3 years ago - everybody seemed to love Tiesto - and now we have people calling him/adding to sigs/flaming that he's GAY!!!!

We love to tear down our idols when they reach their pinnacle don't we - complaining about "commerciality and selling out" well if they did not become so POPULAR to begin with they would not have helped to set up the fact that we when we go out in TO now - almost every single weekend we have major choices in which to Satisfy our EDM cravings.......we no longer in Toronto or North America for that matter have that "deep sense of undergound" DJ culture in a way any more Euro started it (commercially) - and Paul Oakenfold broke that wide open in the USA in 2000.....Europe has not been the same since the Summer of Love in '88.....and they are the worst music snobs......Canada has always been more music forward than the US because of our diverse culture and different scenes in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.....

in the 90's there was like the big 10 now we have a top 100.....so goes to show that "locals are where it begins.......but not where it should end".....

support our locals - and keep negative thoughts to yourself - they are all trying to makes us happy after all - and they do a GREAT job in my opinion.....
