whether i have to pay $10 or 10 cents for your health based on weed or tobacco why should i have to pay anything? Wasnt that your original arguement? Why should i have to pay anything for smokers? Well why should i have to pay anything for weed smokers. whether its as big a problem or not its still costing me money right?

Again thinking in absolutes, which unfortunately the world doesn't really deal in too often. The fact that there is no system to allow you to say "I don't want to pay health care dollars for people who smoke weed" means you pay for people who smoke weed, cigarettes, drink alcohol, people who try to commit suicide, pedophiles who need clinical help, mass murderers who also need psychological help etc. Your money is going towards helping all sorts of messed up people but the question is where is the MAJORITY of it going. Well a hell of a lot of your tax money is going towards helping out people who CHOOSE to slowly kill themselves by smoking cigarettes. Since when is that fair to taxpayers? Sure that money will also go towards the occasional crackhead who OD'ed or some sicko who likes to sleep with little kids, but a veritable shitload is going towards taking care of smokers. THAT'S why it's not black and white. As a country we should be taking care of our citizens, but that also means doing what we can to stop a huge number of people from killing themselevs on a daily basis. The BIGGER problem is cigarette smoking. NOT drinking, not drugs. They ARE problems yes, and they ALSO cost health care a good amount of money I'm sure, but nowhere near the costs of smoking, and you haven't shown me anything contrary so far.

You are right.. we do pay for everything which is why its dangerous to start nitpicking because it opens up a huge pandoras box. Anyone can use the exact same arguement you are making against you no matter how much or how little harm it causes or how much it costs. The fact that someone may not deem it a worthy activity is enough for them tomake the same statements against activities you enjoy doing.

You fail to see that you cant have it both ways.

It makes a HUGE difference regarding how much harm it does or how much it costs. If it doesn't do much harm, like smoking a joint outside your house once or twice a month then going inside and sitting there completely useless for a bit, or having a few beers on a hot summer day and going out with friends, obviously taxpayers aren't gonna get involved. IF however it's something like smoking that is GUARANTEED to cause POOR HEALTH, I think it's quite different.

Smokers are a curious bunch though, they all know it's *really* bad for them, and they all say they should quit, but when you tell them what to do they say "fuck you it's a free country I can do what I want" as if killing themselves slowly is some sort of cherished civil liberty.

Hypocrites are a curious bunch because they never realize how hypocritical they are. And yes, "killing yourself slowly" is a cherished civil liberty. Making choices is what being a free living adult should be all about. Just as much as it should be your right to get fucked up as much as you want.

I hope they try and ban something you enjoy some day so you can try and defend yourself against the exact same arguements that you are using today.

Or the same residents who moved in next to a long extablished skateboard park and are now trying to have it shut down because of the "noise" that the kids make.

This country is out of control.

^^^ Reading about that disgusted me.

i wish more people who are disgusted by this would speak up rather then the whiners who continually get their own way at the expense of the community.

Sadly those same residents will probably bitch about teens hanging out at the mall with nothing to do or "homeless" people who are begging because they have no jobs.

nonetheless, the point is still valid. They do pull in QUITE a bit on taxes from cigarettes. The better point that he raised is using the health care system as a crutch. It really is indicative of the form of things to come.

To tell you the truth, the revenues outweight the health care costs. It's unforteately the only reason why cigarettes are sold and not banned.

I hear ya...I don't care what she'd say either, lol.

more speifically, I meant to say the general club/bar/restaurant patrons, in general.

it's all moot now...but I still fail to understand why DSRs aren't allowed...just legislate that staff are not to serve people in there...problem solved...people can smoke there and employees are protected.

It wouldnt be moot if more people voted and made it an election issue.
