I think Montreal is Montreal , because of Aria and Stereo.... they bring all the best to this town w/ diff styles.... they kind of complete each other, that's how we feel on stereo side, i don't know about you guys. i openly say go to Aria and Stereo ONLY, cuz they have a vision and at least they care. but Aria won't get anywhere w/ puting down Stereo, i think this fact is proven in the last 4 years. and not forget that STEREO is the longest running afterhour in Montreal. so Aria , go get your clients from Circus, cuz we already made up our minds at Stereo. Good Luck and see you for Sharam on 15th, cuz the persian cats gonna be on Bullitt's list as usual |
When is Deep Dish, I didn't catch it in the thread?
Circus gives lots of the hot girls that go there free passes. When I see girls going into Circus they have VIP passes or special cards that get them in free. I've spoken to girls that I see every week there and they say they get free passes every week to come.
I heard rumors they target strip clubs with free passes to get those girls to come to Circus, but that's just rumors.
The fact is Circus -DOES- have the hottest women in Montreal for any afterhours. The crowd might not be as nice, the vibe might not be as great but it is a nice ass club.
That's a subjective opinion but to be honest I call Stereo my home and always will (except NOTHING beats Sona) but I've probably spent over 30 of my afterhour outtings last year @ Aria. In 2004 I spent the majority of my time @ Stereo.... the summers definitely belong to Aria though.
DD @ Sona
^^ did you go to their last gig at Sona in july 2001 ?
Deep Dish was out of this world that night. still remember that night. J. Jeff was in the hip-hop room too
and actualy that was the same day that i went to Aria for the first time.
I was there. At the time I didn't know the "Who's Who?" of most DJs, I just knew when someone was a big name. I'd go to Sona no matter who was spinning, every Friday and Saturday. I remember security, I forget his name now, the guy at the bottom of the steps telling my girlfriend and I that we should just sleep @ Sona after Friday since we end up here on Saturday... every weekened for summer of 2000, twice a week. The gooooood 'ole Sona days.
Aria forever!

FUCK! Where was I back in the SONA days?? I hate hearing about the good olden days when everything was golden and pure. I wish I was around when SONA was still here and when ARIA (supposidly) was bringing in big names almost everyweekend. However, I strongly feel that I will one day look back on my early days (these days :P) and say the same thing, "Oh shit, didn't liebing fkn rock swirl," "man tiesto killed BEB 05 (KID KID KID)." Either way, deep dish. montreal. aria. I'M SO FKN THERE!!

Sona
Golden era of Sound Of North America (Sona)was for sure between 96-99, i used to come w/ friends from t.o alot....that was the SICK times.
the last 2 years of Sona, it got too sketchy, cuz everyone knew about it so got too busy...., i wasn't feeling comfortable whatsoever either, but u can't beat the partys over there.
NYE 98 , still by far the best Party i ever went to in a club on NYE...amazing productions!
*98-2002: didn't miss a gig from DD ,either in t.o or mtl*
to appreciate sona you had to be pill to the maximum, unless you love being packed like a sardine (+ all the heat) and having your ears ring for the whole week.

| Originally posted by fastmp3 unfortunately i've been there only twice, and that was the impression i had. but keep in mind they were busy nights : pvd in june 2001 and tiesto in october 2001. see n00blarz ? i was into trance like you, front row and center screaming TIESTOOOOOOO and hoping to shake his hand (not once not twice just as much as possible), get an autograph on a flyer, etc ... |
), and it was RAMMED. Couldn't breathe and left early once. But usually, it was perfectly packed.

Question to Kendo: I used to be a regular at Sona back in 99-2000, and I always used to see an Asian guy, sometimes sitting on top of the speakers towards the back and to the right, with white gloves on and a red ball that he'd be playing with constantly, either popping it into his mouth or making it dissappear and reappear. Anyway, the guy had big time skills, although I know my description does him no justice. Anyway, was that you (kinda looked like you), or perhaps someone you knew??? |
Question for Me

Was the ball a small photon? If so it was my best friend Mike. He got me into raving in 99, we're both originally from Vancouver where liquid (using white gloves) style of dancing was quite popular back in '99. He retired from partying by 2001, Sona was the only real afterhours he went to although we went to various 2000-2001 raves together.
The right side of Sona in the 99-2001 years was well known as the "glowstick" side and was also where all us Asians hung out. Him and I started that trend back in '99. He is an amazing liquider and was the reason I started to liquid too. I still can't bend my fingers like he can and my style is way more catored to House now. I also haven't worn white gloves since October of 2004, I still get bugged about that everytime I go to Stereo :0.
I'm bringing them out for Sanchez @ Stereo though...
Did you see me?
Back in those days I used to go around with Vick's inhalers giving people facial massages to the music. It was my specialty and it blew so many people away. My girlfriend at the time used to give lightshows (best glowsticker I know to this day) and I'd give glove/hand shows. I guess this was way back when I was much more friendlier, now I just go and dance.

This was Oasis 2000.
Here's a picture of me on the left and the guy you're probably talking about on the right. It was taken in 2000 on a night before heading over to Sona. We look kind of retarded so I guess I'm going to get flamed
.

"I agree with Epicurus and want to add that it was the first club that I went that was very liberal, in dress code, attitude, ha! Restrooms! space, etc."
One of the things about Sona was that the only other club downtown was Stereo which had more of a gay clientele thus turning off many straight people, to this day some people are like that. Sona had a semi-circle line system where they'd pick who they let in based on security and management choices. People could be in line for three hours and finally get in or some people got flat out denied. I would have to say the clientele in Sona was probably more on the good-looking side, or at least not butt ugly.
Sona was the elite club. I remember countless times when people got rejected how they'd freak out and/or exclaim "Let's fucking go to Redlite (or insert Stereo) then!" ... Sona was the place to be...

"And I actually remember one night when I was with my buddies Zak and Omar (who you used to always wear a San Antonio jersey when we'd go, so you might remember him), staring at this one Asian while being completely miffed as to what he was doing to this other guy's face. We thought he was either gay, high, or both, and couldn't stop laughing . I guess that was you "
THAT WAS ME GIVING THE FACIAL MASSAGE!!! OMG HAHAH. Yes, with me blowing through the vick's inhalers it almost looks like I might be kissing the guy. It DOES look very gay. Haha. Honestly, I went through various phases in raving, Phase 2 being super friendly. In my next Phase, what I call "FUCK OFF", I stopped giving those massages and generally got fed up with the constant amount of people coming up and asking me for them. They'd even harass my girlfriend, which made her proud for some odd reason, for me to give them facial massages. The weird thing is lots of people would bring their friends to have it done too.
"hahahaha yes you do look retarted but trust me you are a fuckin' legend for your friendliness "
I don't see how that could be, I don't even know you by face
. Unless Louis says I'm nice but to be honest I don't really know him that well, he's a cool cat though. I'm more standofish at afterhours now because I like to just dance instead of talking. Lots of people gather the courage to come talk to me and usually they say (especially girls) that they were too shy to say hello or when I first started going to Circus people would tell me they always saw me @ Stereo and asked me why I was at Circus... or sometimes people come up to me and tell me they saw me @ Circus last week, Aria the week before and thus they decided to talk to me.
I do go out every week, sometimes twice, I did so during my school years in Mcgill, working @ a LAN center and now a 9-5 job.
I love the scene and I love to dance.
What I'd love to do is meet more TA people... I see some people around, noticeable people like Monica but I never bother to say Hello... like I said, I love to dance.
