you need to start rallying up those hard dance promoters to get their asses into gear and hold some big ass events reza!

even if the hard dance guys combined their events for one night or something, like the hard dance/trance version of GK or TT, that could work.

or become a promoter yourself

nah. they're two different things. most of the time hard trance has more heavier kick, while still retaining the mid and highs, compared with the kicks in trance which is slightly more subtle. hard dance is basically the spectrum which envelopes the harder styles, in which hard trance is a part of. you can say that a hard dance set will have hard house and hard trance and hard nrg tracks in it.

while a tek set can be consisted of minimal, tech-house, tek trance and hard techno (schranz) and still pretty enjoyable, a hardstyle set pretty much does your head in, really.

ahhh, ok. cheers tachyon

note- all house is hard. hard to enjoy

I think this year's GK lineup can only be a great thing for the dance/trance scene. I maintain hard dance cannot be enjoyed unless copious quantities of drugs were consumed in the first instance... and the memory of a great night was left with an incredibly false impression of how good the music actually was.

Bring on the musical, melodic headliners and may more people realise how beautiful trance can really be.

What a load of s****! Your point about drugs is insulting. How can anyone listen to that dreadful stuff churned out by the likes of G&D without drugging up first?

Who the hell wants to stand around swaying (after all you can't dance) to something slow and dull? You go to a night out to enjoy yourself, not lapse into a coma due to extreme boredom.

Anybody saying things like 'how beautiful trance can really be' cannot be taken seriously can they? Yes, let's all hold hands and rejoice in the lord and listen to Lange's 'Frozen Beach' all night. God I need to be sick in a bucket......

maybe you can't do the super hat twirl but music doesn't have to be 150 bpms to dance to. if you call twirling your hat on your head dancing

Wow, It's amazing how many opinions can fit into 8 pages.
Also amazing, is how the urge to textually slap a genre to the ground, curse all junkies, and state one's own opinion as law, can diminish in the same time.
I'm definetely not goin to throw around judgements here, especially as, only a year ago I'd have pigeon holed all dance into my "junkie music" folder. And even more so after having my eye's opened countless times since, most stand outishly - Cristopher Lawernce in Jan. (dam, can he come back anytime).
Guess what im tryin to say, is, not everyone's gonna like everythin, so don't try and make em. Instead, open the offer to them to experience the best of it, and let them decide. (Long winded i know, apologies)

/2 cents.

When 3000 people from montreal can vote in a block for one of their locals to make the list, how can it truely be a reflection of the millions listening to the music?.....
+1. Strong scenes come from strong locals. Strong locals encourage good parites and good productions

ummm...? contradiction?

Uh huh

You go be sick in a bucket dear, whilst come our once yearly Godskitchen, Ill hold hands and rejoice in the lord (if I cant dance, I may as well follow your suggestion and embrace the spirituality of electronic music) whilst listening to the beautiful music of the best lineup I think Future Entertainment have presented Melbourne with. And then I shall get back to you on G&D set.

Meanwhile, with the pounding headache I without fail suffer from upon being subjected to unexpectedly hard trance though decent speakers, I would indeed need copious amounts of painkillers, at the very least, to enjoy my evening. Dont be insulted, its simply a fact.

And if I want to have a decent dance, Ill find myself something with much more musicality and variety than a pounding 4/4, 160bpm mess of dance music. Seriously, Id find it as much fun as dancing to the lawnmower.

And our differences in taste would be why- aside from the fact you appear to be from the UK- we would never intentionally find ourselves at, and enjoying, the same night

id stick to drinking tea, murdering princesses and getting thrashed at sport if i were you. producing something with a ridiculously fast tempo, does not, in and of itself, make it music.

thats not very stereotypical of you is it?? Thats like saying everyone who likes hard trance wears phat-pants, drinks G like it's water, double drops and owns 50 million billion kandy bracelets.

*grabs Gerry's and pkcRAISTLIN hands and dances around the room to "need to feel loved"*

I agree with you, Rez. We do have it lucky when it comes to the bigger events, but i think thats just due to fact the uplifitng/melodic/prog sound being generally more popular world wide.

What you have to remember, is that in Melbourne, the hard scene is very loyal/active but very confined. Because EVERYONE that is into it is, out to it. The general masses who have no idea who the fuck the DJ's are, find prog or trance alot easier to get into than hard stlye/hard trance/hard house, even if they dont even know thats what they are listening to.

The other thing you have to keep in mind is that those masses make up the vast majority that attends these bigger events, Future knows this which is why you will always find trance or prog headliner in the main room.

Nu Energy Collective have been around for quite a while, circa '99. I don't think they're a prime example of "Hard Trance". Scot Project, Marco V, etc, I would consider as 'Hard Trance', whereas the N.E.C are primarily a Hardcore group, and cover about 20 different Hardcore labels, including Camel, Nu Energy and even an Australian Hardcore label, 'Executive Records' run by a guy DJ Haze who I think is from Sydney. Keven Energy is the main guy, but they have about 10-15 different core members that cover a variety of different Hard Trance and Hardcore styles.

They've done a few Australian parties; Enchanted, AdventJah just the other week, they usually make an appearance at the Godspeed parties in Sydney, and Brisbane gets them out all the time. Mayhem just this past weekend had probably the biggest Hardcore linueup at an Australian event yet.

As for the argument so far, most people here have agreed that different people are going to like different music. As for the argument over which is 'better' in a musical context, people who are into their form of music are always going to understand it better than those who prefer other genres; because thats what you listen to, thats what you love, and thats what you learn. There is no such thing as 'better' music between genres, there's just different tastes.

The trance guys will understand the mechanics of their music and as such will understand and appreciate the nuances and differences between styles of trance that to me sound pretty much the same. On the other hand, those into the harder styles will be able do exactly the same with their music.

With the claim that there is a lack of hard dance in Australia, maybe you're just in the wrong area. Us poor hard dance followers in Melbourne have it a bit tough, but if you're willing to go to Adelaide or better yet, Brisbane, you pretty much can't get away from it. Check the lineup that was at Mayhem just past: http://www.mayhem.net.au/.
