I respect everyone's opinion though, and I hope that all these people that are defending the meds have had a good experience with them. After doing a study on them, however, with my Psych prof, and with my own personal experiences, I cannot say that I am for them. More props to those that it helps, I suppose, more power to those who like living like zombies. I'm not saying that what Tom Cruise said was right, because I don't think that he was right about the whole field of psychiatry/psychology, I even said that previously as well. I simply agreed with the thought that many cases are misdiagnosed and that prescriptions harm more often than not rather than help. |

Psychiatric medications are just like any other medication. For some people, they just don't work. The human brain is far too complex for there to exist a "cure-all" that never fails. Is this reason enough to dismiss an empirical science? Anyone who answers "yes" to that question is blinded by their religious beliefs. Period.
It's funny how Tom Cruise spent much of the interview with Lauer talking about how aderol "masks the problem" instead of fixing it... because that's exactly what his scientology crap is doing to him. It's not helping him to open his eyes. On the contrary, it's causing him to narrow his focus down to those things that he is told to support and those things that he is told to refute.
And this, boys and girls, is why wwu.punisher doesn't go to church.

None of you seem to know the history of Adderall.

Fuck Psychiatric medications, Fuck Xenutology & Fuck natural remadies; I whole-heartedly recommend brain surgery. Just cut out parts of the brain that are causing the problem. *problem solved*
Tom Cruise needs to go read some abnormal psychology books or some history of psychology. I wonder how he would explain how Paxil blocks serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the sender nerve cell? I hate celebrities like him that get on a bandwagon and start preaching when they don't know shit about psychology/psychiatry.
It has been proven that medication along with counselling works best, and that yes, medication only numbs the symptoms. But for Tom to go all out and say that medication doesn't work and that it's all in your mind to think it will work for you, is crap

Adderall is amphetamine.
Speed.
That's all that really needs to be known.
i think probably like 90% of people who are diagnosed with "depression" are just fuckign miserable with themselves for reasons that are completely within their control...that is when i am against meds too.
but like some people are really fucked up and have bipolar disorder and it's has nothing to do with stuff they can control...it's about activity in the brain and neurotransmitters having problems going where they're supposed to be, bla bla bla...i don't know the whole jist of it, but i DO know that these people will go insane and probably comit suicide one day if they aren't on meds and monitored. in that case, then obviously i'm all for it.
