| Originally posted by lcid i didn't even know people outside of Wisconsin ate brats my method is to boil them in beer for a while, then throw them on the grill until they're nice and crispy. i like to load 'em with kraut and spicy brown mustard. mmmm and on a soft toasted buttery bun (not those crap hotdog buns you buy in a bag... i'm talking fresh bakery style rolls) = delicious!! personally though my specialty is spicy italian sausages. |

Summerfest of 1999 (i lived in NY and was visiting Milwaukee, and you couldn't even buy brats where i lived in NY) it took me 5 years to learn to like kraut, but now i feel like my brat is naked if it doesn't have kraut on it. mmm i'm hungry now. |

I'm gonna go make this, using red onion instead, and fuck it i'm adding bacon.
I searched out bratwurst and made these. I used Deuchars bottled ale.
It turned out pretty damn good.
HIGH FIVE. Great recipe.
I was totally crunk last night when I tried this, but I don't think mine turned out right.

when i read the thread title i thought it was going to be a sick joke about the crazy eastern european family that was eating its kid alive....
then i read it and was dissapointed ....
even more so that im now on a girlfreind imposed diet..... which sucks..... whole wheat pasta = sucks, flax seed = sucks, i cant eat curries anymore since they have too much blah blah blah.... it took like 2 hours to get groceries last night because my gf was OCD about reading every single fucking label on everything..... i drew the line on the veggie burgers... if i cant eat red meat i would go snakey....

<3 Brats so much I don't even need a bun. I boil the wursts in 4 bottles of Guiness, (Do not drain out guiness!) then dump in loads of kraut and some brown sugar. Let simmer and soak on low-med with lid or crockpot for hours. That my friends, is what makes life worth living.
Like hell if i'm gonna let some guy from LA with a George Forman Grill tell me what the perfect brat is

Gonna go ahead and nitpick right now.
You have Brats and beer brats.
I prefer a Brat.
When you boil a brat in beer, it tends to decrease the spice of the brat. Adding spice to the beer helps, but you still tend to lose the overall punch of of the brat. The nice thing about a beer brat is it create a juicier, more subtle even taste through out the brat. Personally, I enjoy making brats on the grill using charcoal(not briquits) with apple wood or hickory.

Quality post mate! I'm gonna grab some of these and have some tonight...only I'm skipping the bread, and adding some other veggies.
