Well, Jam el Mar did always have an ear for commercial music. I've a compilation that has P.ower Of A.merican N.atives alongside stuff like Urban Cookie Collective, Bad Boys Blue, 2 Unlimited, Q-Tex... really, a lot of euro dance.
Trance was mainstream to a degree right from the get-go. It just never caught on as such until the late 90's when euro 'techno' was a busted buzzword.

I'd give it all away for free, and encourage people to share what they like.
I'd encourage partygoers to dress more festively when they go out instead of "sophisticated and chic"
I wouldn't let little kids rolling their faces off through the door(!)
Actually, all people who are obnoxiously fucked up should be removed, they gave the world the wrong impression of the music and really really hurt it, people who can get fucked up responsibly can stay.
I would put all DJ's behind a curtain, or find some other way to make the crowd not face the DJ and stare at him the entire party, and instead focus on dancing and on the dancefloor.
I would put the artists who give their music away, use creative commons licenses, have day jobs(read: not in it for the money) at the top of that silly top100 list.
Actually, I would get rid of that top100 list! And all the stupid dj gossip and vain hypefest media, and replace it with a true alternative media that does not cover the scene in such a shallow fashion.
I would remove all our stupid buzzwords (such as "progressive", "underground", "classic", "omfgIdie", "anthem", half of that huge retarded list of genre classification, etc) from the vocabulary.
I would encourage people to sound different, make uniqueness the feature that is valued above the others.
I would throw out all the kids who want to horde trance into their own little group of friends, all those kids who wish the doors to the party would shut after they got there, everyone who is shelfishly trying to keep it all in their own silly little subculture. All the kind of people who want to inhibit trance from spreading to the people who want to hear it would have to be removed somehow.
I would ensure that no trance music related paraphanelia ever be made into stickers that kids put on their cars, t-shirts, soundbites in the background of tv shows, samples for radio station blurbs, commercials, TV show theme songs, fads for high school children, cell phone rings(!), obnoxious web page background music, patches that kids sew onto their clothes, hats(especially the trucker hats), and any other random silly trends. Instead trance music would be available only as an object in the form of music that one listens to for the fun of it, NOT background material for marketing!
I would give ameteurs and enthusiasts the same oppurtunity for making and spreading music as the big league pros who have access to high end equipment and record companies.
I have much more, but its kind of depressing to write out all this stuff because I know I don't have the ability to acheive any of it.

I meant prevent the crowd from worshipping the DJ, the show shouldnt be about worshiping the iconic DJ, the center of attention shouldnt be the DJ, it should be the party itself, which was the whole reason for typing

I can make you sound just as stupid by only quoting part of your post and taking it out of context, learn to read.

i was thinking about this the other day belive it or not - if trance ever had problems i.e. trance producers stopped making trance i would continue the quality style that has kept me listening to trance since 98' and get as many ppl as possible making more tunes !
i havent ever tried properly to produce trance but i would give up my life to learn how if trance stopped being made !
p.s. im learning now!

when trance evolves into something in the next decade and people start calling it booty-goth trance, people are going to complain about it just like people complain about how today's rock sucks compared to back then.
2 things:
- Make all online radio shows MUCH less frequent. ASOT is once a week. Let`s drop it to once a month, so that the most hyped up radio show there is can actually be WORTH hyping up. Kill all the pointless ones too, that means all of Suzy Solar`s 30,000 radio shows are GONE!
- Take Belgian trance out of all of your `pointless, awful, shitty cheese` collections and actually listen to it. Don`t base all of your opinions on a few songs from a few years ago, not every Belgian trance song is like Castles In The Sky. Whether you like it or not, Belgian trance still produces the same feelings/vibes/emotions as it was in 1999 & 2000, whether you want to admit it or not. Although the new Lasgo & Milk Inc. tracks are more electro, they still give you the same feeling as the Astroline tracks from 1998. There are new releases coming soon from Jessy, Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Sylver, Milk Inc., Peter Luts, Anneke Van Hoff & DHT. Although Minimalistix, Kira, Orion Too, Kate Ryan & Astroline are all GONE, there are still consistent Belgian trance artists out there.
lets not vote tiesto #1 dj this year that will learn him

| Originally posted by Ian^ I'd prevent the death of marino stephano, leaving him able to continue his legacy of good works, I'd stop Oakenfold going shit. I'd stop all the remakes of classics and inject originality and creativity. I'd see all producers using only hardware, as it was fine when this was the case. There would be a good amount of money available to the people who were undoubtedly the best, ie. people such as oliver lieb, the ferry of 1998-2002, Origin, Vincent De Moor etc. I'd make tech-trance how it was, techy with only slight trance moments, not the 'tiesto' bandwagon that isn't anything like it used to be. Progressive would go back to being melodic & progressing, and not just boring loops of fluff, people like quivver, cass & slide, tilt etc. |

Also, I'd make sure there are less trance fans... somehow??
What i would do to change trance is change the metre. I thought of this the other day - most songs have a 4/4 metre and up until recently many new tracks have remained original and different using just that one type or metre. Think of how amazing it would be if trance producers started using different metres? There are so many more out there.
And i was just reading up on Wikipedia and they were talking about this "Polymetre" - OMG two different metres playing at once? Unless producers already do this and i just haven't noticed...
