they don't have to be literally sad; with sad lyrics or whatnot. almost all of the songs that have been mentioned use 'sad' chords. you do know what 'sad' chords are, right? you should since you know so much about "smooth synths" and "shitty drums" from your criticism of Viola.

if you don't, 'sad' chords are simply keys and chords that have a more sad or melancholic sound, as oppossed to 'happy' chords. it's a well known fact to musicians that certain chords have these emotional effects.

And I disagree about the comment(s) earlier that trance can't be sad... I've heard hard trance that have evoked borderline sad emotions.

Thats just a lil list of trance that makes me think differently than other trance. They seem a little more emotional. This is just my opinion though.

In my opinion Moogwai - ,,Voila" is not sad !!!! I think it's lively track that you can dance to. However if you feel sad try to listen DJ Tiesto - Alone In The Dark !! I hope you won't suffer from depression. ;]
