Regardless, the gov must step in and do something significant about this.

the government actually do anything about something? Yeah right...

But dont worry... we are all safe from smokers, pit bulls and trans fats!!

so why doesnt he put the money where his mouth is and drop the provincial gas taxes?

Mcguinty is nothing but a buck passer.

The TTC's motto of "the better way" has never been more true. I feel bad for all you who have to drive. Working in town and living on the subway line, I'm not affected by gas prices at all yet. However, we are all going to start feeling the pinch once these crazy gas prices start to cause a rise in inflation.

Alternative sources of energy make more sense than ever....lets hope the powers that be stop getting their palms greased by the oil companies and start thinking of our short and long term future.

hopefully now we can think about building normal communities instead of sprawling car ghettos. Wasting less space such as huge pieces of dead lawn space between highways and gigantic parking lots for example. Perhaps now we can make use of existing train tracks and build new ones and start building communities around train stations instead of cul de sacs.

Alas thats asking for "vision" from people in this country and the only vision people here ever see is their next paycheque

Why does every person who takes the TTC think those buses and power used by subway/LRT get enery from some magical source, and they won't be affected? Gas prices flucuate quickly, toll and fees are going to go up on everything, the airlines already levy a fuel charge now, won't be long before everything goes up in price including all these TTC riders.

Did I not read somewhere correctly, Venezuela is the 2nd largest exporter of oil to the United States, only behind CANADA?! (Something like that) So why is it Venezuela can supply themselves with Cheap oil ($0.12USD/Gallon) and Canada can't do the same. We produce like 3+ million barrels a day and consume 2.3.

you know what i am?

i'm a fucking moron for not filling up to full at 95.

Hence my comment about inflation.....TTC riders are aware we'll be hit, it just hasn't happened yet.

Plus, fare prices have been comparitively rising faster than gas prices over the past several years...so we've got some room to breathe for a bit.

Posted by StereoPrincess on Sep-02-2005 16:37:

well, one good thing is that i won't have a car for a month while it is getting repaired.

so i don't have to pay for the gas for it.

once rental runs out, i'm done for.

Posted by cono_sur on Sep-02-2005 16:49:

We can easily do it, but it's not in our government's interest to do that - they just lose tax revenue on the ridiculous prices.

What are we gonna do about it, vote them out? Ha ha. If tainted blood, HRDC and AdScam didn't get us to lash out as a nation then I don't think they have much to worry about with high gas prices.

Posted by psychosomatica on Sep-02-2005 23:25:

Also .. the cost of extracting Canadian oil is higher.. we have the oil sands.. and it costs significantly more than drilling wells. We pay our labourers more too.

exactly... canadians will just shrug and take it up the ass as always... and choose to focus their complaints on the finer things in life like noise from the docks and patio smoking.

great quote....I never thought about it, but noises on the docks might just be one of the finer things in life. That and any all-area-party at the guv like LOL. Its a good thing that can't raise those prices. Message from America: I need somebody with more intellignce than a shrub running my country. Most of us here, can't find any time to bitch about the finer things, we are too busy with the lower end of the spectrum.

Oh, Gas in Detroit, Still at $3.30/gallon.

Peace:.

too true...we just don't have the balls. I'm surprised Americans and especially the Brits (known for their insane protests over the years) aren't putting up a bigger fight.

One analyst on CTV said we should expect prices to flatten out at 1.50 a litre for the forseeable future. WTF! Even if I could afford it right now, I wouldn't consider buying a vehicle.
