Dude that is crazy what I am hearing. I have been to that same venue and thought it was the shit. This was also on momorial weekend where it was HipHip Horave and many headliners and tons of people. It was well lite with actual stages and it was not that much of a drug fest. It was alot of the ravers you see everywhere and tons of cute girls. It had to be the promoters and not the venue. You cant help the dirt but I guess it was just shitty promotion. That venue is cool. Dude I would have loved to hear that set you spun dj tranz. Nice track selection.

Hey i had a pretty rough sat evening as well. I drove half way to Vegas to attend some white trash wedding of a girl i went to high school with. Her husband sounds like your description of the promoter at the rave. I was just standing there shaking my head the whole time wanting to scream out "dont do it girl, his hair is longer than mine"

It really makes me sad to read this thread and see how shitty this event turned out to be.

I was asked to play this party several months ago, and I turned down the gig because the promoter seemed like he had no clue what he was doing and to be honest he just seemed like an asshole, I asked him a bunch of reasonable questions about the event and he had no real answers for me.

It was very obvious to me that it was a first time production run by people who had no experience, coming from the underground scene myself and throwing underground/outdoor evnts for years, I decided I did not want to be a part of this event. Ironically enough, I was then told by the promoter that I was "too Hollywood", hahaha...

I apologized to him for asking questions like, where is the location, who are the other djs, how many events have you done, do you have a website, what time slots, etc... and wished him luck on his event.

I feel really bad for all the DJs involved and for any of the poor people that drove out and wasted their night (when they could have been at the insane Will Spin For Food loft party )...

What pisses me off the most is that this guy throws a shitty event like this, then all the TAs come on and bash it (rightfully so in this case), and then other TAs read the reviews and get a COMPLETELY FALSE impression of what an outdoor party really is like... and that fucking sucks.

I have thrown so many great outdoor events with good people, music and vibes.. and I know many other crews that throw quality outdoor events as well ..

then one guy can put a sour taste in everyones mouth cuz he went and tried to play "promoter"...

sweetcandy and others that read this:

this review should not affect your decision to go check out a future outdoor event..

I guarantee there are lots of amazing ones and as long as you just investigate who is doing the party and their track record, then you will probably end up having one of the best EDM experiences of your life.

edit:

and WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP WITH TICKET PRICES????

are you kidding me??

1st event.. outdoor.. no headliners (sorry to anyone playing, but none of us would be considered "headliners" enough to justify charging 30 dollars)

and then the party is shit???

wtf??

Agreed. Don't judge every party by one bad one. I was also approached by somebody from that event. Seemed a bit shady to me too...

Did anyone actually think that this event was going to be any good? IF there was ever a time where the writing was on the wall, this is it.

All ages, forrest, 30 bucks, no named DJ's, discount list of 20 bucks? Are you friggin' kidding me? Yeah, outdoor events are cool and I used to go back in the day. Oh wait, its called CAMPING! Anyone who actually went to this abortion of an event shouldn't complain if you were too stupid to see it coming.

lol ouch, well its nice to see fellow friendly TA's here on the boards.

i must defend theeo, verdugo brothers, and electrphile in this case.
theeo has been spinning for about a decade and has really clean mixing. great progressive tracks and produces. verdugo brothers produce good funky tracks and have a nice track selection. electrophile has a incredible knowledge of imported trance and has some of the cleanest mixing in southern cali hands down. (i might add im not the only person who thinks this, ive also heard this from some veterans. regarding theeo and electrophile that is)

i truley respect your freedom of thought xone, but with those words... mind if i listen to your latest mixed set?

Posted by Cool Xone on Sep-13-2005 07:16:

Ok, I'll give you Thee-o, he is very talented.

You can listen to me play anytime you want...the only difference is that I won't charge anyone 30 bucks...errr....20 w/ discount.

Nope

I went to California Love the year before, I thought the venue was pretty good. It certainly wasn't a drug fest when I went. I really liked it when the sun came up crowned by the ring of mountains, and everybody was just chilling in the clearing in the middle. Sucks what happened to you guys, sounds like a really crappy promoter.

The drug specials sounds like a hoot though! I would love to see that. Buying them at a patrol car LOL!

yeah that partol car on the PA system yelling out nonsense... still makes me laugh. wish i had my recorder lol!

and CALIFORNIA LOVE, a perfect example of what i hear was an EXCELLENT party at the EXACT same location... so excuse us mr cool xone, my crystal ball is currently out of commission.

Posted by Thee-O on Sep-13-2005 08:15:

I had a pretty good time...but yeah the house area system was a lot better then the trance area...so that was part of it! lol

I agree with the price of the event...it was too much for the talent provided...that being said though I know the promoter was just trying to cover his ass. Most parties up at Gold Creek Ranch are pretty big so the owner charges accordingly. The promoter did not walk away with any money.

About there being so many drugs. It's a rave folks I have been sober my whole life and people trying to sell drugs and doing drugs is pretty much how things are. I am not saying it is good...but there is always going to be that element...I just try to promote sober partying and ignore the druggies

lol... the DJs left. Too funny.

I ended up not going at the last minute, because I decided that it would most likely be a bomb. The promoters seemed very amateur, and I wasn't about to drive out there and pay $30.

As for other people being drugged out of their minds... whatever, it's easy to ignore them. Having fun at a party doesn't have anything to do with the other people at a show. Being sober is useless if you're bitter at everyone else around you; honestly, no one has any clue how much any other person "appreciates" the music. I would question whether even certain big name DJs "appreciate" the music anymore.

I guess not everyone breathes trance like we do.

Though I would have liked to have picked up some shrooms and maybe some acid for personal use at the park near my place.

Sorry it turned out so poorly; better luck next time.
