Got to give up something to get Manny's lifetime .314 avg, and 40 HR's and 134 RBI's a year.

I remember when Gregg Jeffries was like baseball's reincarnation of Jesus. There's always prospects that you trade away who become superstars and there's Hensley "Bam Bam" Muelens who you never hear from.

Well, if the Mets are taking Manny's entire contract, they certainly should not have to give up Milledge to get him. Nor Petit. But I dont really care about Petit. To be honest, I don't really even want Manny.

I really wish the Marlins took the Rangers package...

Though, they'll still suck for at least the next year or so.

They should have taken Hank Blalock.... would have been better than what they're getting from the sox...

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-23-2005 01:17:

all they cared about was clearing salary, now i am hearing Delgado is on his way to the dodgers and Lo Duca is going to arizona.
Arizona also is shopping troy Glaus,If the Mets can't get Delgado i would love to have Glaus

Uhhh... no. Not even close. Hank Blalock is not as good as everyone makes him out to be. Check it:

v. RH: .294/.363/.517/.880
v. LH: .222/.271/.353/.624

Home: .310/.379/.548/.927
Away: .238/.296/.396/.692

Florida is a crazy pitchers park. And Texas is a crazy hitters park. There's not a doubt in my mind that Blalock + Florida would = .750 OPS

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-23-2005 01:29:

'Zona's also shopping Vasquez. But that's because they have to. Boy... do I effin' want him so bad.

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-23-2005 01:31:

yeah i would like Vazquez as well but he didn't really take to the pressures of playing in new york last time..will it be any better since he will be playing for the step child team of new york..although i'm sure since Pedro is the main media guy alot will be deflected.Could always do what Vlad Guerrero does and never learn english(supposedly)

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-23-2005 01:38:

I've been such a Vasquez whore since his days in Montreal. I think, first off, he was injured with the Yankees. Second, it's the Yankees. And finally, he was pretty damn good the first half in New York. I really don't think he'd have any problem here. And his peripheral stats are great. Just gives up a few too many HRs... which Shea would only help in minimizing.

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-23-2005 01:39:

looks like we are gonna get wags as the hammer...10 mill a year plus incentive clauses

Blalock is proven... yeah he hasn't been as good as two years ago.. but I'll take him over Ramirez...

Those splits are over his career, not just last year. He has a career OPS of under .700 away from Texas. And a career OPS of under .700 against Lefties. Yeah... he's proven... that he sucks away from the cozy confines of Ameriquest.

Javy Vasquez didn't have a good year at all last year. He is so inconsistent, I remember from looking at his stats for fantasy baseball during the season. He gives up so many homers!! And the year before, he was absolutely atrocious in the 2nd half for the Yanks. The first half he was decent but not dominant in any stretch. Take him, he isn't that good...

His K's have really gone down since he was in Montreal. And that was Montreal where there was like 100 people in the stands. New York is still New York, especially when the Mets get better and get more attention here soon.

His ERA last year in Arizona, the same place Randy dominated the year before with an ERA of 2.60 (and then was just ok in NY) was 4.42. 35 HR's given up LY and 33 the year before.

And one big first pitch to Johnny Damon hit a ton for a grand slam in game 7. Not the guy with the biggest guts in the world.

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-23-2005 03:37:

Blah blah blah. His perihps are dope. And that's what I see. He's still young too. And, don't forget, we have the Guru.

When he's pitching all the women will be happy cuz chicks dig the long ball and they'll be seeing a lot of em.

I think I have him crinking his neck back over his shoulder etched in my mind permanently.

Dude, if it takes a mid-level prospect or two to get him, then the Mets have to do it. Rotation would be so much better with him in it. Pedro, Vazquez, Glavine, Benson, Seo/Heilman/Trachsel. Yay!

Carlos Delgado (and $7 million) traded to the New York Mets for Mike Jacobs and Yusmeiro Petit. Fire sale continues. Mets get a big bat for two guys I don't know. So I'm sure Shamus can't elaborate.

Delgado is a big improvement for them, he still have some pop left. Not the crazy silly numbers he was posting before in Toronto but still pretty solid.

I like the deal for the Mets but I don't know much about the guys they gave up.

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-23-2005 20:37:

Mike Jacobs is a player without a position. He came up as a catcher, but from all accounts is worse than Jorge and Piazza combined behind the plate. He is also not a very good first baseman at all. No range. He has a decent stick and put up .300/.340/.500 numbers in the minors.

Yusmeiro Petit... hmmm... I really don't know what to think of this guy. Stats say he is going to be the next Pedro Martinez. He strikes out 10+ per 9 inning, gives up very few hits, and walks very few. However, nearly every scout says he has below average "stuff" and that advanced hitters in the Majors will cream him. Who knows? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

All in all, I dig this deal. Delgado is a great addition to the team. Add Wags to it, and I think the Mets are instant favorites in the NL East. Hopefully adding one more starter (Javier) to the mix along the way...

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Nov-23-2005 23:47:

who says people take the day off the day before a holiday ?

carlos delgado traded to the mets.
jim thome goes to the white sox. how big is that ? thome will receive a lot of boos when the sox go to rival cleveland, after he sold them out for philly .

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-29-2005 00:37:

Hammer in the bully...finally

The Mets and closer Billy Wagner reached a preliminary agreement Monday on a four-year, $43 million contract, according to the Associated Press. The four-time All-Star is set to earn just over $10.5 million each year of the deal. He was 4-3 with a 1.51 ERA and 38 saves for the Phillies last season.

Now all i want for christmas is a 2nd baseman(and please don't let it be soriano..love the bat..hate the glove)

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-29-2005 02:36:

Here's what I want now:

D'Angelo Jimenez.
Octavio Dotel.
Ramon Hernandez.

That's it. I guess re-sign Berto. Couldn't hurt.

Reyes
Beltran
Delgado
Wright
Floyd
Nady/Diaz
Hernandez
Jimenez

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-29-2005 02:41:

You want Dotel to come back home to flushing

Posted by Member of X on Nov-29-2005 02:45:

Just remember.. money doesn't buy championships. I know that very well...

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-29-2005 03:08:

Just remember...

The Mets payroll is still at 100$ Million.

The media keeps bringing up the Mets payroll and blah blah blah. But, the payroll, right now, is the same as it was last year. Add about 13$M for Hernandez/Molina, a few bullpen arms, and the bench... the payroll is at 113.

Then next year: Floyd's 6.5M, Glavine's 10M, and Matsui's 6.5M all come off the books.

Posted by Eddie N MIAMI on Nov-29-2005 05:36:

so what can i say about the Marlins...we are the Royals now...a small market team ... Loserville
Ill always like the marlins as long as theyre here, but whats the point now i guess, gotta go straight up Cards now for me

and wtf, they gave BJ Ryan 47 Million????????
