Hey guys,
You can see some photos from Celebration 2006 on B514.com
All the best for the new year to everyone!
I have had a few reviews to write already now since I got home and am getting sleepy, so I am going to try to keep this one under control (meaning not a regular TOTA review
)
I have never been to any of the larger events in Montreal before so I was really looking forward to my first event!
I really liked the setup and decore of this party. If you have ever been to Europe of any type of larger festival, imo you can certainly notice the similarities between them. And the lasers always add a nice touch to it as well.
The crowd was decent.. not too packed, there was room to dance, not too pushy and no randoms trying to talk to you on the dance floor while you are clearly wanting to dance and not talk at that moment. I think having it in these larger venues with a good amount of people is way better than having anything in an overpacked club. But nothing beat looking down from the top level at the whole place. What a great feeling, it was amazing!
The DJ's, well.. I enjoyed Fabi, Miller and Lawler's sets.. although nothing drastically stood out for me. Oakenfold's set seemed very similar to what he played in September when I saw him last.. and starting a set with the World is Mine as we were walking in the doors..
but whatever.. It is Oakenfold. I still always like to hear Seven Cities so he did good with that
As I posted earlier in another review.. this night for me was nothing but a night out with some great friends. I was actually very lucky that not only did a spend it with all sorts of TA's from different cities but I also saw a ton of non-ta friends from TO area there as well. I didn't really care about the music, I didn't really care about the crowd, or the setup.. I was with people I enjoyed being with and especially on NYE, what a fantastic night!
Dan, Marcus, Erika, Nick, Fawzi, Gavin, Mario, Bobby, Ziad, Baki, Khoa (please forgive me if I haven't spelled your name right my dear
) and if I have forgotten any of you I apologize it is now getting late and I am exhausted with very little memory left, but thank you so much.. I had a wicked time with all of you! Way to start off the new year

So, it's all good. My cousin's boyfriend paid me back the $75 I paid for my fake ticket plus my cousin felt so bad that she insisted on paying a huge part so all in all, Celebration = $15 from my pocket |

Celebration was my first party in Montreal and I didn't know what to expect but was sure in for a treat. Having the Bell Centre as a venue was pretty damn amazing, when I first walked through the curtains I just had to stand there and look in awe at how beautiful they had done up the decorations. Got there kind of early right when Oakie was starting. I've never seen him b4 so I guess he was ok nothing extraordinary about him, dropped a few classics which was nice to start my night but that's about it. For all you Fabi haters out there I don't know what was your beef about him but in all honesty his set was my fav of the night as anybody who knows me would tell you that I'm all about the tribal house. His mixing was on par and it seemed like he knew exactly how to get the crowd on his side. I liked Lawler's set but I was hoping he would have played more tribal than he had but the electro for me was basically good to listen to not really dance.
The visual effects were pretty damn awesome from the green laser shooting out the front, to the fire cannon they had on the upper levels, that was pretty awesome. Met a whole bunch of MTLTA's which was nice and a good bunch of people not like I had perceived them to be before a la epi. Anyways overall I'd give Celebration 2005 a 9.5/10.

People stay in their groups of 3 or 4 and don't take any initiative to talk to you. Much different than the Guvernment or Boas or the Zone where people just come up to you and start conversations. |

celebration was pimp as hell... better than last year in the sense that the fire on the sides were nuts, the LASER was insane!!!! the screens were cool but the visualisations were horrible..
the music. okenfold was aight.. he played the anthems, but i didnt expect anything so when i heard souther sun and traffic it was kinda cool to hear it in a big stadium
lawler.. i was SO fucked up.. i would dance... and then sit there.. and then dance... and then laugh @ all the poeple looking @ my eyes saying "he is fucked up..." hahaha and then kept dancing. cause i was fucked!
but the dj's before lawler were complete dopeness... those guys stole the show. wow after okenfold got off... the party kicked off SO GOOD. house/tribal. sickness.
and the dancers/guys in suits they had were insane, fun to watch...
overall i had a blast.

Not having ever gone to a club/rave on NYE, I gotta say this was one of my best NYEs...EVER. I dunno what to really say. It was freaking awesome walking out into the stadium, and seeing the crowd of people tearing it up. I was there with close people, and met up with really cool people from TO. I don't really have anything bad to say at all. Not really a very communal vibe, but whatever. The music was great. Got in at 10pm, left at 9am, would have stayed longer, but was just dead on my feet. All in all, I couldn't be more happy to have come out, and this definitely won't be a last for me. Fucking amazing time.
One complaint. Assholes at the Novotel hotel just aren't very hospitable nor accomodating. Long story, no need to bitch, just don't reccommend the place to anyone.
