If we let them build nuclear weapons we give their current leader's arguements actual legitimacy and thats what scares the hell out of everybody.
If only he actually talked like a rational, sane being, the world wouldn't be so anxious.
Make no doubt about it, if Saddam had access to such weapons he probably would have used them.
How can I substantiate you ask? Good question, just look at what Saddam did to Kuwait when he was forced by the World to leave not to mention the terror and mass graves that are still being found in Iraq to this day.
Do we really want to deal with another extremist/radical with nuclear capabilities this time?
There a lot of people here complaining about the current situation, now try and image that situation with a real nuclear threat behind it.
How the hell will you sleep at night?!?
I for one wouldn't sleep tight at all...

Also, the fact that they were caught in the crossfire between Iran and Iraq (a situation that my country had actively promoted through it's ongoing arms and chemical sales to both sides) is also conveniently overlooked. http://www.informationclearinghouse...article1148.htm |

| June, 1992. Ted Kopple of ABC Nightline reports: It is becoming increasingly clear that George Bush Sr., operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980's, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into [an aggressive power]. |

Saddam caused a war with IRan... the US invaded iraq, Israel INVADED lebanon...the arabs invaded Israel... Now you tell me this.. if your country was surrounded by nations that have been bullied and invaded by the same super powers in the world.. would you just sit there and not protect yourself??? Do you think that memebers odf the israeli knesset havent proclaimed their desire to destroy iran? All his talk is rhetoric and he wants to make a name for himself internationally ... |

| Originally posted by skot_e Better ways to do it than to deny the holocaust ever happened, and say Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth. That is only going to issolate the country and turn everyone against any chance of economic development for Iran. if Iran was to call on Palestine and israel to do everything they can for peace, and try and influence those is various political circles to achieve this outcome, the US UK and EU would do more to help Iran join the world forums. well maybe not so much the US, but atleast they would have to drop the whole 'evil' moniker Bush chucked up. |

All of this is making a very important assumption...
That Iran's nuclear programs are intedned to make nuclear weapons, not for civilian use.
I would not support any military action against Iran until we knew damn sure that Iran planned to make nuclear weapons. We need to be extra careful about what action we take against Middle Eastern states and the people of London and Madrid will testify to that...

Does anyone else find it ironic (and fitting) that Israel's President and (Acting) Prime Minister were both born in Iran?

| Print _Email_ Last Update: Tuesday, January 24, 2006. 7:08pm (AEDT) Bank, Govt targeted in Iranian bombings Bombs have exploded in a bank and government building in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz, killing four people, according to state media. State television put the number killed at four and police spokesman Mehdi Ahmadi said the toll was higher than two. Ahvaz, and the surrounding province of Khuzestan, is a scene of bitter struggles between Iranian authorities and the Islamic Republic's Arab minority. Iranian authorities are particularly sensitive about protests and discontent in Khuzestan because the region sits on most of the Islamic Republic's crude reserves, the second biggest in the world. The region has been tense since April, when five people died in anti-government protests sparked by rumours the Government was considering relocating more non-Arabs to Khuzestan to water down Arab influence there. Seven people were killed in a bombing in June and six more in a blast in October. -Reuters |

I seriously doubt Israely politicians would be wishing for Iran to be wiped of the map if they weren't start shit with them
. Also, the numbskulls who defend Iran's right to have nuclear weapons for defense also justify Israel and the U.S. and Europe and the U.N. having their own missiles ready to "wipe Iran of the map"...not to mention oil
