so for most of use purchasing the hr824 would be useless?

I didnot say that, I said to really apperciate these monitors you need to hear acoustic instruments throught those.
You can use them for anything else. I use them for monitoring my mixing. I also use them for many more purposes, I set the weight of the turntables tonearm, by letting off the weight and listening for any distortion. I could not really do that accurately on my old 12" 3 way speakers from the 80's. I use them for editing, eq-ing tracks, even for watching DVDs.

I am thinking of gettign the sub for them when i get a spare grand in my pocket... my neighboors will love it!

I thinking about getting monitors today, The thing is i CANNOT have a sub. Since i live in an apartment all the bass from a sub makes it hard for my downstairs neighbor. I do need bass coming from the monitors though. Which monitors do you guys suggest? Right now i'm using klipsch speakers that basically only have mids and highs. the suckage.

IF you have the money, get Mackies 824s, they got plenty of bass without the sub. THe sub is only for people who want lower frequency responce and more kick. And for those who dont live in the apartment...

Mackie HRS120 is the way forward

Nice!
I am definitely getting one of those.
Extra 400Watts of bass is always good when spinning
DnB.

so, without a big budget to buy the Mackie 624/824, the Rokit's seem to be the most bang for your buck?

Yeah, unless you want something really high end for production purposes. The Rockits work for both production and DJing and cost less. They don't sound that much different from the Mackies, maybe not quite as clear but certaintly are decent monitors for home use. I don't think it's worth $125-150 more for Mackies.

choosing speakers is like choosing a perfume. Its all about how it sounds to you. So the best thing you can do is find a store that sells different sudio monitors, brign your favorite CD and listen. Get whatever speaker that sounds best to you.

Ha, funny that... the shop giving them rave reviews. Dont waste your time. Go the KRK's or Tapco's, especially if your ever thinking about using them for production.

Anyone got a first hand review regarding the Alesis ProLinear 720 DSP...

Would they be over the top for DJ monitors @ Home? or just right... etc etc..
