Just in my last visit alone, I got...

Flutlicht: Icarus (limited edition)
Bleachin: Bleachin
Blackbox: Ride on time
Assension: for a lifetime
Oceanlab: clearblue water
ressurection: follow us to the cocaine bar
A Tsumani promo with 2 unnamed tunes on it
Pachelbel's Canon

ALL for under 15 - freakin gold mine! I've had many more from there too over the past few months. I love raking too - damned sight more fun than typing in to isohunt, that's for sure!

im kind of sad that i missed out on the vinyl ara. Im just now getting into djing and I preordered 2 cdj 800mk2s, i think that vinyl is starting to fade out and i have no record stores anywhere i live. So i kinda have to go with cdjs or I really wouldnt have a large selection of music to play. Im thinking maybe in the near furture ill buy some turntables but for now digital seems like the right path to go with for me.

Sure, you can always add at least one 1200 to your setup. You'll be better DJ for it, learning to ride the pitch and compensate with vinyl will improve your skills overall.

And don't forget to look online for vinyl. I only shop in my local vinyl store (walking distance for me) maybe once a month or so (it's expensive and the selection isn't always great, or what they do have I can just download for much cheaper). The vast majority of music I get is in digital form.

even if there are no records stores where you live, there are still a bunch of great shops online. anyways, the best part of vinyl for me is going to the record store and digging through crates for hours on end and finding hidden gems in there to me, it's part of what being a "dj" is all about

vinyl has a sound that cd will never be able to match. there are advantages to both formats though.

Many things, warped records...records damaged in the mail, poor quality records, scratched records..or if you wind up not liking the track you order. MP3 is much better for previewing purposes (WAVs for playing out). Also you have to spend $$ on a record with perhaps a few remixes or tracks you don't like, while digitally you can pick and choose the tracks you like, big advantage i've found with digital. Also you don't have to worry about accidentlly dropping a record, I know I was so careful with my records and a few I did accidently drop and they got scratched up quite easy and skipped...forces you to spend $$ on a replacement. You don't have to really worry about this with digital, just burn a new cd...

Well, the reason I asked is because I've never had any big problems like the situations you described, and I've bought my entire record collection (around 300 right now) online, the majority of which came from eBay. I just don't quite understand your rant because I've never had a record arrive badly damaged or totally warped beyond use, and I've really had no reason to even worry about this. I'm not saying these things don't happen, but I think it would have to be an isolated case or some real extreme mishandling at the most. I've only ever had one or two times when a record has been majorly scratched, but other than that, I haven't had any problems with this either (even with used records). Maybe I'm just extremely lucky and you aren't, although I don't think luck has much to do with it... just a thought.

About you not liking the tracks... do you research and sample the songs that you bought in the past, or did you buy them all blind? If you bought them blind, I could see your problem, but I always make sure I know what I'm getting before I get it, that way there are no surprises. Also, I have never been one to care all that much if the other tracks on the record are shitty or not. As long as I get a specific track I'm looking for on vinyl in some way, that is all that matters to me, since that is mostly the only track I care about playing. So, I don't necessarily see your point about digital being the better option here because I find I do just fine with getting the records I want and not being disappointed afterward.

I've dropped some records too, and yes, it is a bitch when they get scratched. You have a point there. However, I can't say I've ever been bothered with the prices of records and each record I buy always seems justified to me regardless of the price. I guessing this isn't the case for you...

To each their own though, but I was just curious about your previous response.

Well.. Time for me to pipe up in this thread.

I just sold off my vinyl collection.. Buddy just walked out my door with everything, cept for a select few of my psy records that still need to be recorded to WAV.

I've come to terms with the digital evolution. I might add a TT to my two CDJ's in the future, but for the genre I am spinning now.. CDJ's are the way to go..

EDIT: Not to mention, now that I am spinning Psy, I can find FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more tunes via MP3/WAV/CD than I can on record. Which is another HUGE reason for switching formats.

ive just bought serato so moving towards the digital era, but theres no way im giving up vinyl, im still on the search for 12", well the stuff i cant get digitally. thing is ive grown up with spinning vinyl for the last 4 years, and the reason i bought serato over cd decks was for the vinyl feel, so it seems stupid to give up the vinyl.
downloadings good, but there is not the same buz as having a literal piece of wax on your door step in the morning when the post man comes knocking!!

thats my 10 pence worth,

ciao

hell... if you're spinning psy, then i dont think anyone can blame you for spinning cdjs over vinyl...

psy just isnt a vinyl medium, and never has been... its all in how it originated...

edit: wow... didnt realize how dead this thread was. i was searching and stumbled across it.... ah well.
